Amaxhwele etc, those are people who are deeply connected with consciousness ,they would be guided to such knowledge of plants. If you can recall the saying amongst the xhosas " sikhangela umhlola" -seeking of knowledge for what is misunderstood or little knowledge of" . Amaxhwele would be instruments "so to speak" to gaining such insight.
