It's funny, because with every version of Windows you can feel how technology has evolved and how do we feel it. While in the first versions, aka 95/98/2000 everything sounds more "spacey", in 2007 and forward everything feels "softer". The sounds are not longer that Epic, but more relaxed and smooth, and the Window's logo is more brilliant, but less colorful and more simplistic. Which one is better? Ah, who knows, I love them all equally. I'm wondering what will be seeing in ten years...
My guess Microsoft made this decision is because more and more people started using windows and technology overall as part of their lives so booting up a computer started becoming less and less this "magical portal to all sources of information" and more so just things for everyday use and regular work so they had to make it shorter and less noticable
