    Exactly what I've been looking for ! Maybe u could make a video ranking all the possible upgrades for the delonghi dedica (and how well they work) . Changing the portafilter, installing a manometer, exchanging the steam wand etc..

    Excellent video! I’d rather use the oem wand over the Rancilio wand. Nice upgrade for those that have the older Dedica models.

    I simply cut away the white tube with a knife and connected the existing tube like it was done with the Rancilio mod. Works without problems since five months and you don't need any extra parts.

    You did that already!:) That was my idea during last month when I got 865 in really like new condition but without steam wand and water knob for couple bucks in Value Village. It also has damaged inner connectors including steam valve, probably after serious dropped crash of the machine. Just can't find time to collect all parts and realize this project yet:) Thank you for this video guide and explanations, it will very helpful for me soon:)

    Can you please convert the De'Longhi Magnifica S ECAM 22.110.B to improve its steam wand? This affordable automatic machine would greatly benefit from a steam wand upgrade.

    Good Video but I'd rather buy the 885 instead, because I dont think I would manage to do this kind of technical upgrade by myself. Unfortunatly, the 885 doesnt come in black, which is my color of choice so I currently stick with the 685 and use the cable tie hack.

      The upgraded DeLonghi wand is a "cool touch" wand, meaning that the outer metal doesn't get hot enough to burn your fingers or cause the milk to stick. The latter makes cleaning a bit easier. In terms of steaming performance, there is no difference. It's basically just a Rancilio-style wand with an extra outer casing thermally isolated from the inner metal tube.

    • @TomsCoffeeCorner

      It’s a no burn steam wand, making it easier to clean, and I like the design better.

    • @kniels2856
      @kniels2856 2 місяці тому +3

      Sticking with a DeLonghi wand gets you a cleaner aesthetic and a cool-touch wand, but the mod is more expensive than a simple Rancilio-style wand. Considerably more so, depending on where you live. The cheapest I can get the steam valve is > €30 with shipping and unless I can find a local source for the o-ring and clip, those will add nearly €20, bringing the grand total to right around €85.
      Considering I can pick up a brand new EC885 (which is what my EC685 would become with this mod) for €170 right now and get not only a brand new machine with full warranty, but also a steam pitcher and a metal tamper, that seems like a very high price.
      In comparison, the Rancilio-style mod can be done for less than €30 with shipping where I live.

    Hi Tom,
    I wonder if you could let me know the diameter:
    - an outer hose supplying steam from the valve to the new wand (seen at 0:20).
    - the nipple of the old valve on which the hose of the old wand is placed (seen at 5:57).
    I'm thinking of using (instead of replacing the steam valve) an adapter connecting the wires of the old and new wand. I tried to connect both hoses by putting the old one on the sleeve at the end of the new wand's hose, but despite the clamp, the connection is leaky.
    Unfortunately, the coffee machine belongs to my daughter, and she cannot cope with such measurements. I would like to buy the appropriate parts before I go to her to fix the steam leak.
    I will be grateful for your help.

    Thanks, Tom. I did not watch the review of EC680 model. I imagine the steam wand was terrible. Why not add a 60 seconds clip with original wand to demonstrate the gain? I found this previous video of yours to help others like me understand the gain: ua-cam.com/video/G-GeZ9fbajw/v-deo.html

    • @kniels2856
      @kniels2856 2 місяці тому +2

      Tom is using the wand in the "beginner" mode in that video. The very first EC680 didn't have the "hot milk" setting, only the "cappuccino" setting. The latter pulls in lots of air and makes steaming milk simpler, but you get horrible results. If you switch to the "hot milk" setting (which the machine in his video has, but he isn't using it), the extra air intake is blocked and the steaming works like a "real" wand, just a bit weak because the hole that the steam comes out of is too large. There is just enough power to get a vortex going, so you can do perfectly textured steamed milk with it.

    • @jeanletourneau9642
      @jeanletourneau9642 2 місяці тому +1

      @@kniels2856 Thanks for added info on EC680 versions. The video I referenced also makes the demonstration of an "advanced" mode with a hacked wand: ua-cam.com/video/G-GeZ9fbajw/v-deo.html

    • @TomsCoffeeCorner
      @TomsCoffeeCorner  2 місяці тому +1

      Thank you for your feedback. It probably would’ve made this video better to have included a before and after, you are right about that. This has been a highly requested video, ever since the EC885 came out. But I guess I might have overestimated how many people know what the difference will be between the stock wand and this one. You can see it however in the basic mode of the review I did on the EC 685.

    • @kniels2856
      @kniels2856 2 місяці тому +1

      @@jeanletourneau9642 Yeah, the problem with removing the outer wand and just using the silicone spout is that the fit is not entirely consistent across machines. On some (including mine, but not my parents'), it will pop off while steaming. I have seen some people solve this problem by using a cable tie, but that is just more ugly than I am willing to accept in my kitchen. Also, the "hot milk" setting really does work very well. It does take a little bit more practice to get a good vortex going, but for standard pitcher sizes, it's fine and can produce perfectly textured milk.

    Hı, I have a Kingrinder k6 grinder, at what setting, how many grams of coffee should I use for espresso, my machine is dedica ec885, double nonpressure basket and bottomless portafilter.

      Hi, I've got a Kingrinder K6 and a Dedica as well and my Espresso setting is inbetween 0.28 and 0.32 clicks and 16 gram of coffee in a double nonpressure basket. My ratio is mostly 16 in and 40 out

    • @andresvillavicencio2874
      @andresvillavicencio2874 2 місяці тому

      Hi there, I have the exact same setup. Setting depends on the beans you are using. For me and the beans that I've used in the past I range anywhere from 38 to 48 clicks for espresso using a bottomless portafilter (so not a pressurised basket). You can then test from there

    • @SunriseLAW
      @SunriseLAW 2 місяці тому

      I also have a k-6. Mine (and probably all of them) go about 10 clicks below zero. I have mine set around 28 based, just below the 30-mark on the grinder, which is about 40 clicks from "absolute zero". I learned the "gentle tamp" by watching Tom because if I tamp with 30 pounds pressure my Gaggia CP won't reliably pass the water thru the grounds. I usually go bottomless. When in doubt about my grind, I use the pressurized basket. I don't make milk drinks. I like mine super-long (Americano sort of) so I use about 16-18 grams of beanz which yields a shot weighing 90- 100 grams.

    • @ferhankayaoglu
      @ferhankayaoglu 2 місяці тому

      Thank you everyone for your answers. I couldn't see any information about it on the channel, but there are kingrinder promotions. I got my grinder today, I ordered fresh beans and I'm waiting for it. I start at 48 and decrease it in the 25-30 seconds range until I reach a ratio of 1:2 to 1:2.5. I asked because I wanted to waste less coffee.
