Very helpful to have this feature. As an external consultant, I've been getting qualms from cost-sensitive clients for having to maintain an additional user for me on their domain. This will help in just dropping my projects on their tenant without having them buy an extra license.
This was a huge help - I should have known to start with you rather than the forums! Answered my exact question. Thanks for the great consistent content!
I am using Windows 10 Enterprise 22H2 , This is working in April '23 PBI desktop version but not in latest release of PBI desktop and due to this we can't upgrade with new PBI desktop version. Many users also reported this issue. For us it's important as we use external tenant a lot in our organization.
Amazing video. This technique is also critical to let you connect your desktop Power BI Report (with no database) to a database at the external tenant. Thank you very very much!
Interesting from an external consultant. I’ll explore this option so the organization doesn’t have to get an extra license for me. It didn’t come clear for me if this can be achieved in non premium workspaces with pro license. Tx for sharing
Awesome stuff. Glad to see more B2B capabilities being added. Hoping that this might also make it possible for external users to build datasets from dataflows by connecting to datasets in an external tenant?
This was great, we had been looking for a solution Quick question, if the guest users are brining in their own license then we don't need to assign the guest user any licenses?
Hello Adam, I would like to thank you for your videos. It helps me a lot. And I just want to ask 1 questions could you please do a video on pause automated report a database refresh fails? Thanks 🙏
Thanks for that awesome hints, Can we publish that report to another workspace out of existing workspace? I am trying to connect the dataset as an external user to my workspace and create a combined report. is that doable?
When I change the underlying data column name to something else, my visual breaks and I get an "something is wrong with one of the field" error. This makes it necessary for me to change the entire visual again and all the formatting. Is there a way to just reassociate the drag and drop data field to the new data column name so that I don't have to go through the process of redoing the whole thing?
Hi Adam Great video that helped a lot. I have a few issues, now that I have acess ;) - i want to setup automatic refresh and to publish some of the report as an app - is that possible? Regards Lise
Do you know if this could work for Storytelling in PowerPoint? My guest users want to use the Show in PowerPoint option from PowerBI but they can't get access to reports in PP. In PowerPoint there is no Sign-In Options like in PowerBI where you can tell wchich organization you want to sign in
Do you need a premium version to share access or can you do this with a pro version? It says on the pricing page that you can publish and share reports with the pro version.
Quick question for clarification. I'm coming from google data studio/looker studio. I make a lot of dashboards for individuals who don't want to pay for licenses which is why looker has been great. Is this possible with Power Bi if I have a premium license? It appears in their documentation that pro members can only share with pro members, but premium users can share reports with free users correct? Will these reports be live and update automatically from the dataset for them? Thanks!
Cant log in as an external user now because of a login prompt to stay signed in to all apps after having logged in.. This resets the external log in and just logs me into my normal account. Any help on this?
Interesting. We have been looking for this for some time. Unfortunately for us, it does not seem to work. We have two tenants, one in one (our) domain and one in another domain, to which we are B2B Guests. When I log into Power BI Desktop, it only asks me for my email address and then defaults to our domain... I do not see the "choose and account" dialog. I am never prompted, but rather seem to go directly into my local context. What am I missing? Seems like cached credentials, but I am not connected to a dataset at that juncture. What can I do to remove and cached credentials and get the login screens you are showing?
#GuyInACube : Raising Issue: Looks like this is not an option now, concerned about this feature going away as our organization using external tenant a lot and can't sign in another organization from desktop.
It's being investigated. It looks like it's not completely reproable. For example, it's working fine for me. And a few others. Of note, what version of Windows are you on? Of note, The two users (including myself) were on Windows 11 22H2. It also worked on my Windows 10 machine. One of the devs, the only one that was able to repro the issue, was on Windows 11 21H2. So, looking to verify if that has something to do with this.
@@GuyInACube One of the Azure Guest user facing issues from past few weeks with not being prompted for MFA and unable to connect to published datasets from office IP but works fine from other IPs. And this issue doesn't exist for a different user in same scenario. As per this reply, I am assuming it is something to do with the Windows version. Though not sure. It was all working fine few weeks back.
Has anyone else gotten error message saying "An error occurred while attempting to publish 'filename.pbx': The remote server returned an error:(404) Not Found." When I publish a blank report it works fine though.
Q: Hello #GuyInACube, can I use "guyinacube" as the domain name of the organization? I neither work nor go to school. I created a dashboard on Power Bi desktop, and I want to publish that to my website.
📢📢 Please note, this is not officially supported! Some items within Power BI Desktop may get confused. 📢📢

Fantastic!! We've been wanting this for years at my company!
I was wondering today how can I publish from PBI desktop as external user. This video arrived at a perfect time!!! Thanks.

In the video I was using PPU licenses. Should work with Pro licenses as well.
@@GuyInACube It didn't work for pro license. B2B user had Pro license. Workspace had premium capacity assigned.
It should ask which domain you want to sign in to from the first login screen. They should also make an option to change domains.
We had this need and I accidentally figured it out last week and documented it to send to our users. 😜

Hi Adam, Thanks for the video ! You define your external user as a Member in the workspace. The Contributor role is not enough ? Thx
Sorry I meant that in a general sense meaning it had access listed in the workspace. It could be contributor or higher to publish.

Great. Adam why conexion with salesforce reports works horrible? I trying to do ETL from dataflow and always apears a time out
Super, just what I needed to know

@adam: you show that the label is not automatically applied; I assume you can apply the label manually? Does it remain if the user re-publishes?

Can they connect to the tenant datasets in live connection as well ?
How do you make updates? Do I need to create another link?

If you have Premium capacity you still need a pro license to publish though
My organization doesn't allow it. I can't log in with another domain.

If this worked on Power BI Report Server then I'd be impressed
What would be the scenario? Power BI Report Server uses the local AD of the windows machine. I’m not sure what you are looking for there.
Great this organisational login is such a bs from microsoft. really helpful
😍🥳
The little item about it having to be "Premium Users" was the FIRST thing you should mention. That was useless....
So, it doesn't work with pro licenses in a non-premium capacity workspace?
@@kashifhaque2085 It seems you have to have a Premium License and all viewer need a Pro License.
