Great video! finally someone explains properly the relation between rim width and tyre width, because we tend to assume that rim width doesn't change from model year to model year but previous mt-03 (2016-2018) had a 4" rear rim and 160 is so forced.
I want to make a quick note that I did make a minor modification to get the wheel bearings or the rear sprocket in. I just had to cut a tiny bit into the housing and it went right in. Hope this helps. Just use a small knife and cut around the inside them it will fit with no problem You could also use sand paper but it might take a bit longer. Thank you. Hope this helps

I have an R3 2015, it came with Michelin Pilot Street 140/70-17M/C 66H and 110/70-17M/C 54h as the original tires, I need to change them now and I am having a hard time deciding on whether or not I should buy Pilot Street again since I have only found 66S and 54S, the vendors say H speed rate is not available anymore, so I am considering another brand, the Pirelli Diablo Rosso 3, which ones would you recommend best between the Michelin vs the Pirelli ones for a replacement to my bike??
Sorry for the delay to your message it looks like you did some good research and I think you won’t go wrong with any tire you choose. I would recommend possibly the Michelin but it’s just me. I also would put a 160-60 on as well. Best of luck 🤞
Honestly the smaller is better but I have since updated to a larger rim and tire if you look at my other posts. It is actually a much better look and feels like a my R6

Since you were able to put on as large as a 160 on a 4.5 inch rim, how large of a tire do you think one could put on to a 5.5 inch rim--since 180s are pretty stand with 5.5"? I would like to put on a 200 size tire but would settle for a 190 if it would cause any major handling or traction issues.
I see what you are thinking but its not necessary to put larger than 180 tire on. If you look at my other videos it will show you how the tire fits perfectly in the swing arm and does not rub. Hope this helps
@@shawncouture5541 I just prefer the look of a 190 to 200 width tire, that's all. I'm not a super intense cornering demon. It's more of a casual fun thing for me. I know a 190 will fit my 5.5" rim and also inside the swingarm--maybe even the 200 might fit as well. I just don't want it to affect the handling too terribly; I'm thinking a 190 would be the best compromise.

Yes you can. I know the max you can go on stock is 160/60/17 rear. Hope this helps. Anything lower is fine.

Correct 👍🏼 160 is the max on stock rim. I felt the front was just fine.
