- Air Corsica's a brand new ATR-72-600 F-HXKY is prepares for take-off from Bern in Switzerland, destined for the beautiful island of Calvi in Corsica. The turboprop was delivered by the end of May 2023. And keep an eye out for a nostalgic moment as a classic Douglas DC-3 of Swissair taxis on the runway, adding a touch of history to this incredible aviation experience. Don't miss out on this exhilarating journey!
---
The ATR 72-600 can accommodate up to 78 passengers, a notable increase from the previous maximum of 74. This feat was made possible after the EASA's approval of a new high-density layout in 2015.
Let's start by exploring the dimensions of the ATR 72-600. With a length of 27.17 meters and a wingspan of 27.05 meters, this aircraft maintains an almost identical wingspan to its predecessor. The wings themselves span an area of 61 square meters. Inside, the cabin reaches a width of 2.57 meters at its broadest point, while the overall height of the plane stands at 7.65 meters.
Now, let's move on to its performance capabilities. The ATR 72-600 boasts an impressive range of 1,528 km (825 NM) when carrying a load of 70 passengers. It cruises at a speed of 510 km/h (280 knots) and can reach a service ceiling of 25,000 feet. With a maximum takeoff weight (MTOW) of 23,000 kg, the ATR 72-600 typically requires a runway length of 1,367 meters for takeoff, making it an excellent choice for operations at smaller airports. The ATR 72-600 is equipped with two Pratt & Whitney Canada PW127M turboprop engines, each producing approximately 2,750 shaft horsepower.
In terms of sales, the ATR 72 has experienced its fair share of success. With over 1,200 examples produced across all variants to date, the production cycle shows no signs of slowing down. However, its smaller sibling, the ATR 42, fell short of reaching the impressive 500-unit mark.
The ATR 72-600 continues to impress with its performance capabilities and passenger capacity, making it a formidable contender in the aviation industry.

The opening scene was so cool, showing the modern, puposeful commuter, in juxtaposition to the iconic DC-3 in the background. The DC-3 has always looked "alive" to me, with it's clownish face!

Daumen hoch mein Freund!

Hey there George! I've just unveiled my latest vide: A DC-3! Brace yourself for an awe-inspiring experience as you witness the majestic beauty of the DC-3 aircraft. Its mighty Pratt & Whitney R-1830 Twin Wasp engines, with an incredible 1,200 horsepower each, will leave you speechless. Get ready to be enthralled by the symphony of power that fills the air as this magnificent bird takes flight. This video is my gift to you, capturing the essence of aviation and the sheer wonder of the DC-3. Enjoy the journey!
Love those props, even when I dislike ATR.
This should have been a Dornier - dont know why they came up with that minibird ...
프로펠러 비행기의 장점을 최고로 보여주는 비행기
Thank you very much! ✈️ 🙏
About 80 years difference between them!
Absolutely! Thank you very much! ✈️ 🙏
Calvi is not an island but a city
It is an ATR 72 from Corsica.
Screw the ATR 72-600. . Must be commonplace if they are in current production today.
The DC 3 only has to show up a couple of seconds and steal the whole damn show! That DC 3 is an antique icon with lots of stories to tell.
The ATR 72-600 is just an infant, still sucking on the teat of aviation history hoping to be admired someday.
Time will judge the ATR 72-600. That old DC 3… commands, and deserves respect after 9 decades of dependable service; and she is still showing up photobombing UA-cam videos in 2023 about young kids trying to make a name for themselves.
