you know what I love about your videos You take a category And you just present a few option And every options has a point it's not just about reviewing just because It's simple and you really help more novice riders to know what to look for
as a newer rider i was surprised to find the tcx x blend in your review, and pretty pleased to hear you say what you did about it, that makes me feel more confident about my choice on my cruiser. Keep up the informative vids.
"It's theoretically possible that a shoestring could catch somewhere on my motorcycle so when I get to the next stoplight and go to put a foot down I tumble over. That would be a very lame and public crash but alas, it probably not a dangerous one". Yes, this happened to me early in motorcycling life. It is the reason why all my motorcycle boots now use zippers and no laces. Yes, they look like "biker boots" but alas, there is a reason that style got that moniker. Another thing I learned that year: gauntlet gloves prevent angry hornets from getting trapped under your watch...;)
The lace to foot peg lock has happened to me many times. Luckily . . . ok not luckily, . . . . I have learned to test for this before I stop, so I can unhook it and stop normally without crashing. I have since binned the lace up boots and only go zipper and that issue is gone.
I just owned the dxr sportshoes 4.0 and I'm definitely surprised how good they are for 70€. They have a great protection, are durable, are comfortable and they look great.
FortNine makes the best reviews. Precise, short & absolutely informative without bloatware. He deserves more views. Good going son. Keep up the excellent work. (y)
I have a set of the earlier model tcx street. Worn nearly every day for five years. Just thinking to replace them now. I tour with them as it saves me space. Never leaked. Highly recommended.
I have the tcx Street and I can't really fault them at all and you can have the joy of rocking your left foot back and forth because of the shifting soul shape
I have the Alpinestars SMX1. I wear them every day since I commute on my bike, honestly I don't see why one would care to look like they didn't ride to their destination. I'll gladly wear all my gear wherever I go. I have regular shoes since they're easier to drive in (wider sole for heel-toe, better left/right movement) but when it comes to riding, it's important to remember that footwear is purpose-built. I only wear my boots if I'm riding but I only wear sneakers when driving. Toe sliders always come in handy, though. Will never own boots without them
I wear an Alpinestars SMX-Plus for knee dragging and a Dainese street runner for commutes and everything else. The Alpinestars gets me funny looks (they think I'm a storm trooper with my white raceing suit) while the Daineses get me compliments (before the soles turned yellow)
I wear Ariat paddock boots made for riding horses. I wear them comfortably all day walking, riding and Friday night dancing for hours. But I already had them for English riding, just as I wear my English riding leather chaps.
I've had the TCX X -Street for 3 years now. Ive been wearing them as regular very day street shoes. I never had sore feet, even after a 15km around town. On the bike, they feel great and keep my feet dry in the rain. My only complaint is the insoles. They kept sliding up my feet. I replaced them with custom mouldable insole.
I wear a pair of standard combat boots and have for 48 years. 68Triumph Datona, 92Harley Sportster, 92BMW K750, 92Original Honda Africa Twin. I've got em all. In my mis spent youth I had a 67 Vincent., 1970 matchless, AJS Stromer 250, 73 Can Am 175.
Xstreet everyday, tcx is a grat company . I had these shoes for 2 years, every time i take the bike. sturdy, waterproof, reaaaaaally comfy and i can't tell the difference with regular shoes for walking
Great video as usual but let's be honest, most riding shoes are tidy and are better than any standard boot or shoes. I had my first accident recently on a little work bike, a honda cbf125 and I'm so glad I had on motorbike short boots. I was coming off a big roundabout a short distance from work late at night as I was going home and I hadn't noticed the temperature had plummeted a lot, I came around a bend off the roundabout with not that much lean on and the bike started to slide underneath me, now naturally from riding mountain bikes so much IO stuck my leg out to save myself and the bike, but my foot got caught underneath the left side peg and pretty much all the weight of the bike came down on top of my ankle, it felt like my foot was being squashed and twisted off at the same time. At the hospital, they told me it was fractured, now while that's awful and I hate being on crutches, I couldn't help but think my foot might not be there if it wasn't for those boots so very grateful, there's barely a mark on them, just a scuff on the outside where it was sort of sandwiched in between the bike and the tarmac.
Hi Ryan! I'm just getting into motorcycles now (I take my MSF July 4th and 5th) and I would love to see an updated version of this! Right now I'm in the process of buying a pair of SMX V2 Plus but the problem is I have 4E wide feet (not sure if the sizing is different in Canada but I have wide fucking feet) so if you make an updated version I would love for you to include options for people with wide feet! Great content, keep it up! Loved your most recent video
I wear the X-Street with Kevlar Jeans. Some of the group of riders though I was riding in Converse. lol X-Street are very good quality Nice and ridged and look just like my Vans. I use them on my Cruiser and Sport bike.
on the alpine stars (1:41) whats the purpose of the big plastic looking things on the outside? I would assume its if you crash you dont lose/scrape/hit your toes?
It's a toe slider! The idea is that - if you lean really low into a corner - the outside of your foot will start to drag on the ground. The toe slider makes sure you don't ruin your boots when that happens. ~RyanF9
Bought two pairs of TCX Street and love them. Even comfortable for extended walking, trade-shows, etc. One thing I don't love (and probably the only gripe) is that the TCX Street is more slippery when there is any kind of moisture on the road, especially mixed with a little bit of oil.
Hi greate videos, I just watched lot of your product reviews. I'm just having some trouble understanding you, when you say products names. So I would like to see, writen name and brand of what you are reviewing, it will make it easier to find 😀 Keep up the greate work.
Got a pair of Alpinestars Fastback WP which, in my experience, suits all needed purposes nicely (though maybe not longer hikes in warm weather), but look a little more sporty :)
The breathe-ability of the WP version is not very good. Personally I'd take the regular version unless you *very often* ride in rain or cold weather. ~RyanF9
i have an older version of the tcx x-street (blue and grey version). that one's sizing was way off. i'm normally a 11.5-12 in typical shoes, bought a 11 in those and its still a full size too large. hopefully they fixed it by now, but the thing is great so far. nobody knows its a riding show and i frequently shock people when i tell them (and show them) it has some armoring in it. nobody has any idea its a motorcycle shoe. my biggest complaint is walking. if you plan on doing more than an hour of walking, even my old non-waterproof version is hot, heavy, and bulky. and if you're like me and like low cut socks, the upper part of the shoe can start to dig into your leg after over an hour of walking around. great for short walks, not good at all for more than that
I have the Alpine Stars Tech 7 MX boots and as great as they are on the bike, horrible of the bike lol. Always gotta carry an extra pair in my backpack for daily commuting.
i have those Astars smx 2, they are comfy but when riding everyone can see my socks since the ankle backs are so low. So if i wear them with a tighter track pant they look weird, they go better wuth a mire baggy pant.
+Bladeflyer36 I always wear special socks for footwear videos :) Yeah ... we released most of the 2016 videos at once because people tend to want gear advice in the early season. We're going to add more reviews as soon as possible, but I'm busy filming motovlogs at the moment. Those should be coming online shortly. ~RyanF9
I have A star smx-1, not part of your review. great shoe overall and cool. cool as in temperature. as long as your moving and it makes for a great summer time shoe. great reviews. maybe you could do a summer gear video. great work!
which shoe will be the most comfortable for walking long distance? i am looking for something that i can use as both bike shoe and everyday shoe. thanks
The TCX X-Blend is definitely the most comfortable on this list. I've walked long distances in my Icon Super Duty 4s before ... they're alright too. ~RyanF9
I have the icons and, I'm not sure if I got a bad pair, but they are terrible. On mine the strap constantly comes unbuckled on both shoes and/or they loosen because Icon used a shitty design to allow for adjustment. The grip is horrible in the rain. My toes are constantly cold if I wear them in temps below 20c on a cloudy day or 16c on a sunny day.
+Robert Deford Interesting... I would probably contact Icon about that one. Especially on the issues you're having with the buckles. I've never experienced that with these boots, so it's possible some kind of manufacturing defect is to blame. Who knows... maybe they'll send you a new pair! ~RyanF9
hi Ryan awesome videos, i'm trying to avoid leather because i'm vegan there's any option with synthetic fabrics or faux leather? take care and thanks fro the videos.
Hey Abraham! For sure ... Alpinestars makes quite a few textile riding shoes. The Joey is one of my faves: fortnine.ca/en/alpinestars-joey-shoes . You can also get the TCX X-Street (from this video) in a denim textile version: fortnine.ca/en/tcx-x-street-denim-shoes ... I'm pretty sure it doesn't have any leather on it. Cheers! ~RyanF9
Ah dang... sorry about that! I looked into this for ya, but it seems that the Canada's Motorcycle supplier doesn't have any info on restock times either. Have you put your email into the "Notify me when back in stock" bar? It comes up when you select an out-of-stock item. At least that way you'll get an email when your size comes back in stock. ~RyanF9
+FortNine Thanks for the reply. I have put my email in the remind me box. I'm new to riding and everything I have purchased for my bike has been through you guys because of the informative website, fast shipping, and of course your Canadian. My only gripe is that of about 40-50% of the products I look to buy are out of stock in my size/color/scheme. I believe I have 4 products on the "remind me when in stock" currently. Hope you guys can get some more stock soon!
FortNine sorry lol I was looking for a specific helmet and your website and eBay are the only people that still have it in stock in various sizes. I trust your site more than someone on eBay in Australia

You can look online if there is any service in canada to ship it to you. I always do this if I cant order items from other countrys in my country. FortNine shipps it to the service address the service knows that you will recive something fom fortNine and then they send it to you in the US, it may cost a bit more but if it is the only place you can/want to buy it it will be woth.
S&S competes for Icon's market a lot, which is a good thing. Probably keeps the *iconic* collection from getting silly with their prices. In my opinion, Speed and Strength does very well with their textile gear (I would choose some of it). But their leather gear doesn't hold up as well. S&S helmets are generally decent budget options. But it's a very competitive market at that level and LS2 or HJC normally has them beat on quality. S&S buckets always looks cooler, though. ~RyanF9
I ordered a pair of Speed and strength gloves and sent them right back... I don't know how their boots compare to their gloves but my $30 AGVsport gloves felt better.... Icon is a much more established company I have my sights set on the Icon hypersports gloves and maybe a hero prime jacket down the road or another Scorpion Jacket who knows. Speed and strength gets bashed on their quality enough that I will not be purchasing from their line again.
I just picked up a pair of speed and strength black 9 riding shoes and they're perfect for commuting. They were cheap, only paid like 109 CAD for em, and they look exactly like normal shoes, but still have molded ankle, toe, and heel guards. I love the look of them. Just wish they were waterproof, but i can get passed that
I get where you are coming from. When I ride my dirt bike I just wear my Nikes. I get that it is dangerous, but it is much more comfortable and less akward to shift and brake. It also allows me to go much faster through the trails.
Does somebody know any more of this street style / simple boots? I hate walking arround showing everybody Im a rider, I always have to carry a huge fucking backpack just to fit all the changing cloaths and shoes
We're coming up on our 3-month UA-cam birthday :) But "FortNine" is just the new brand name for Canada's Motorcycle - a motorcycle eCommerce store that has been around for 7ish years. ~RyanF9
First bike I ever owned my shoe laces caught on my shifter peg and I laid the bike over right at an intercection. I felt like such an idiot. That's when I started tucking my laces.
I really dont get buying shoes specific for motorcycles. There are plenty of stylish footwear options that also off for protection and look good on and off your bike.
Thank you. I'm a recent subscriber and I'm really enjoying your reviews. As for the overpants, I'm looking for something I may be able to wear over shorts yet provide some safety. I'm tuned in.
Icon doesn't do specific width sizing, but it felt normal to me. If anything, they tend to run a little on the wide side. I have D-width feet, and the Super Duty 4s were comfortable but a *smidge* roomy on the sides. ~RyanF9
+FortNine What about the TCX X-Streets' width? They look incredibly comfortable. Any idea why motorcycle shoe/boot manufacturers tend to shy away from labeling their foot wears width? It's incredibly frustrating for those of us who have duck feet.
Also unlabeled, but I would say somewhere between D and E width. As a brand, TCX tends to run wide across their whole lineup. The X-Street is comfy but surprisingly rigid ... the X-Blend is a much softer boot out of the box. As for why motorcycle companies don't label their width, I'm as clueless (and frustrated) as you are! ~RyanF9
I have a pair they also run almost a size larger than normal. I wear a 9.5/10 had to send them back and order a 8.5 it fits perfectly. Love these shoes though. On and off the bike they look good.
Motorcycle boots should not have laces. Even the buckles are catch points. Both buckles and lace up let in water. I have Sidis with a large Velcro flap, no catch points, waterproof.
you know what I love about your videos

Been rocking the TCX for 4 months. Great shoe, no one thinks its a motorcycle boot. All weather riding here and not yet dissapointed.

This! Love the shoe but had to replace the insoles, which also makes them more comfortable for walking.
I did too, The original ones kept bunching up as i was walking. I replaced them with moldable insoles.
I'm buying the xstreet this friday, thank God they have it in Malaysia!
just found this channel, you earned yourself a sub m8
I wear a pair of standard combat boots and have for 48 years. 68Triumph Datona, 92Harley Sportster, 92BMW K750, 92Original Honda Africa Twin. I've got em all. In my mis spent youth I had a 67 Vincent., 1970 matchless, AJS Stromer 250, 73 Can Am 175.

hi, how did you go? What did you buy? I have somewhat wide feet in the toe area so curious what you got/how it fit
I wear the X-Street with Kevlar Jeans. Some of the group of riders though I was riding in Converse. lol
X-Street are very good quality Nice and ridged and look just like my Vans. I use them on my Cruiser and Sport bike.
Excellent as always Ryan. Thanx for your efforts.
I second that :)
Good stuff man, been watching a few of your vids & great reviews. Keep up the good work
I wear Joe Rocket Speed master 3.0's they have titanium pucks in places where I would skid if I fell they are mid shin hight and they are awesome.
AXO Trigger.. I highly recommend
Love the SMX2 BOOTS
best boots are cowboy boots that have steel shank and steel toe and a steel cap around were the shifter touche

Also something tells me your channel is going to blow up in popularity
Bought two pairs of TCX Street and love them. Even comfortable for extended walking, trade-shows, etc. One thing I don't love (and probably the only gripe) is that the TCX Street is more slippery when there is any kind of moisture on the road, especially mixed with a little bit of oil.

I love your set up, it's fantastic.
Got a pair of Alpinestars Fastback WP which, in my experience, suits all needed purposes nicely (though maybe not longer hikes in warm weather), but look a little more sporty :)
The TCX X-Street seem to be pretty popular... should I get the regular or the WP? What's the breathe-ability of the WP?
The breathe-ability of the WP version is not very good. Personally I'd take the regular version unless you *very often* ride in rain or cold weather. ~RyanF9
X-Blend vs Hero ... what’s the deal/difference there?! Just the styling and the Hero having a side-zip access ... or is there more to it?!
I really recommend the Alpinestars J6.
i have an older version of the tcx x-street (blue and grey version). that one's sizing was way off. i'm normally a 11.5-12 in typical shoes, bought a 11 in those and its still a full size too large. hopefully they fixed it by now, but the thing is great so far. nobody knows its a riding show and i frequently shock people when i tell them (and show them) it has some armoring in it. nobody has any idea its a motorcycle shoe. my biggest complaint is walking. if you plan on doing more than an hour of walking, even my old non-waterproof version is hot, heavy, and bulky. and if you're like me and like low cut socks, the upper part of the shoe can start to dig into your leg after over an hour of walking around. great for short walks, not good at all for more than that
Alpinestars J6 shoes all the way ! :D
what about like vans or something like that look? just a commuter to work and high school
Really nice watches you have there sir! Also awesome video
I have the Alpine Stars Tech 7 MX boots and as great as they are on the bike, horrible of the bike lol. Always gotta carry an extra pair in my backpack for daily commuting.
Hi RyanF9,
Thank you for the video. Great review, and a good insight into the boots. Keep up the good work :)
What if you used Five Ten Impact VXI shoes?
i have those Astars smx 2, they are comfy but when riding everyone can see my socks since the ankle backs are so low. So if i wear them with a tighter track pant they look weird, they go better wuth a mire baggy pant.
is there an update for 2019 on the way? maybe just make it an all top 10 footwear from your opinion.
The boots wont freak out your co workers the prancing on the other hand might.. TCX is a little to tall and may cover up those Faaaabulous sox.
What about the Alpinestars Oscar line? I love my Monty purchase- most comfortable shoes I own off the bike.
Nice socks. Hehe. You might have spread the videos out. How often are you going to update the best of videos?
+Bladeflyer36 I always wear special socks for footwear videos :) Yeah ... we released most of the 2016 videos at once because people tend to want gear advice in the early season. Sidi Vortice is the best !

Thanks for the great vid, question, how does a lace up boot get to be waterproof, as you stated for the last set of boots you featured?
What's wrong with the full height , more protective boots you've already got ?
Chucking a pair of shoes in a rucksack is surely easier. . . . .
Why are riding shoes essential? I genuinely don't know there purpose, can someone explain..? Riding shoes vs normal footwear
Smitesh Suresh riding shoes gives better ankle protection, some also off better toe protection.
you should check out the ultra comfy XPD X-Zero R by Spidi
Dear Ryan,
Can you make a test of NENKI Helmets NK-310?
I love this guy!!!!
You have your inflection on speech down perfect. These boots might not work for anyone with a supersport
How about I wear my jordan 4 oreo, to me it's not really necessary.
Sandro Arteaga How you gonna rock the Js with no feet tho? Motorcycle savety isn't a fucking game son.
I get where you are coming from. When I ride my dirt bike I just wear my Nikes. I get that it is dangerous, but it is much more comfortable and less akward to shift and brake. It also allows me to go much faster through the trails.
Does somebody know any more of this street style / simple boots? I hate walking arround showing everybody Im a rider, I always have to carry a huge fucking backpack just to fit all the changing cloaths and shoes
how old is fortnine?
We're coming up on our 3-month UA-cam birthday :) But "FortNine" is just the new brand name for Canada's Motorcycle - a motorcycle eCommerce store that has been around for 7ish years. ~RyanF9
i meant like how old are you as a person
He is atleast 10
Well, you're not wrong.
any in a size 15 us?
how I can get shoes mailed to US?
We (fortnine.ca) don't ship to the US at the moment. But there are some great retailers down there! Check out RevZilla.
I've always thought my smx 1s were perfect for a casual sport bike rider
I use the Dririder Tributes daily
Good Quality review!
Could you do a review of mesh overpants?
+blipco5 Yes! I just added it to our shooting list ... stay tuned. ~RyanF9
Thank you. I'm a recent subscriber and I'm really enjoying your reviews.
As for the overpants, I'm looking for something I may be able to wear over shorts yet provide some safety.
I'm tuned in.
On the Icons, whats the width on them?
46!?!
Are you 2.1m tall?
That William painter ad was the best thing I've ever seen
My adidas busenitz does fine
I have the Alpine stars S-MX 2
Alpinestars Faster 2 Waterproof FTW
Digging the videos
Motorcycle boots should not have laces. Even the buckles are catch points. Both buckles and lace up let in water. I have Sidis with a large Velcro flap, no catch points, waterproof.
first pair seems like franckastain's shoes...
