I just made this as a Christmas gift for my girlfriend. Honestly, I hope she doesn't like it and I get to keep it because this is amazing.. I have to say, this is a great way to show someone you love them. It's a lot of elbow grease
My grandmother made nougat every Christmas but just used cranberries and pistachios and macadamias. Her nougat recipe she got from a elderly Greek neighbour in Valencia… almost exactly like this!!!
I have eaten these since I was a child....My mouth was watering the 'whole' time just thinking of my childhood and the joy this specialty gave me...I could only have one...every few days....NOW thanks to your recipe, I can have this as many times as lol needed....~~THANK YOU ~~
I remember having this at Christmas time when I was a child! I loved it, we could only have 1piece each and I would dream about it till next year. Thank you for sharing this simple recipe with us all!
Yes, I remembered this as a Christmas treat too as a child! It was always a special treat! The ones that our mom made had candied fruit and nuts in it.
I LOVE nougat, or torrone, or whatever you want to call it. I lived in the Middle East for a few years, and all the candy and nut stores sold variations of this wonderful confection. I always had a supply of torrone in my bag. Sometimes I would get torrone layered with apricot fruit leather, covered in dried rose petals, coated with chopped nuts, and so much more.
I have years ago bought nougat in Montelimar aling the S French coast. I too love torrone but its best to pay a bit more in the panaderia ir pastelería and eat more slowly than to buy from the supermarkets. I love the idea if the rose petals.
I'm going to keep this image of these treats you have described in my head for a long time. They are completely unfamiliar to me and I will probably never have them in my lifetime--this torrone/nougat, and apricot fruit leather! rose petals as food!--but they just sound so perfectly lovely, even more so that you had them all together at the same time. :)
A family prepared a very similar treat for me while I was stationed in Italy. Now that I'm aware of how long it takes to prepare, I am even more grateful of this wonderful treat. Thank you for sharing this recipe!
I remember having these when I was younger. I was hooked by the video. Cooking time notwithstanding, I dove head first into toasting the cashews, almonds and pistachios I had at home. Thereafter it was all downhill. The entire cooking time was well spent with some other entertainment going on alongside. But the final product turned out to be one of the hardest materials known to man. ;-P I have ordered some Nougat from Amazon. Waiting eagerly for the delivery now.

My Vermont grandmother used to make this all the time. Substitute honey for 100% pure Vermont maple syrup, scrap all the other nuts and use walnuts. Delish Maple Walnut flavor
Been eating nougat for years over here in Belgium but never actually wondered how it was made. I'm going to the doctor's to have my blood sugar tested tomorrow.

When I lived in Spain my Spanish neighbour taught me how to do this. It does take a while but is worth the effort. She called it Turron de Almendra using just almonds from her trees in the village.
Very clear demonstration of the steps. Thank you. However, far from "quick" with 30, then 45 minutes of stirring on the stove. True dedication! Hats off to you. The texture looks perfect. I won't complain about the price they charge for nougat anymore 😉
Thanks for showing how to make this type of turrón/guirlache! It is one of my favorites along with "turrón de Alicante"! You showed "el punto" to determine when to remove the mixture after incorporating and cooking the egg whites. How do you determine when to remove the honey/sugar mixture from the heat, ie. what indication you use or at what temperature in a candy thermometer? Felicidades!
You say this but when you're constantly standing over a pot for a good hr, you get tired 🥲 I tried making some torrone but an hour and a half + very sore arms later, it still wouldn't fluff up so I just gave up and said it was nougat with my family none the wiser haha.
Love this. My aunt used to give us bars to take home to Africa back in the 80s. My uncle was stationed at the Philippine Embassy in Madrid and we used to visit them during our summer vacations.
@@AmberAmber So nice to know that the effort is appreciated by you. Some folks here sound like cooking something a little more work intensive is the end of the world. I know folks are busy I am too but I guess many just want their meals delivered these days. Hope you do try to make it though if only to honor the elders.
The man with the turban who pops up at Christmas markets around my country sells this, but his is so hard he can't cut it, so he chops it with a cleaver instead. Taking the whole rock and trying to chisel off a small enough bit to fit in your mouth with your teeth, while also trying to not glue your hands to one another or to your face is definitely an experience
Yes, the so called Turkish delight is notoriously hard and one has to be careful not to break their teeth. The real nougat on the other hand should have a more powdery structure than what is presented here and is cute extremely easily. I think the candy from the video is something in between cutable when enough force is applied, but nonetheless rather chewy and something you shouldn't simply bite into.
Did you not see her sawing through it for so long they had to edit the footage and cut to the end of her cutting because it took so long? This recipe isn't soft either lol
Un turrón digno para dar cierre al año, muchas gracias. ¿Considera que la miel de abeja se pueda sustituir por miel de agave o con azúcar? Gracias y saludos.
As a kid I made this with my Grandma. We always added a bit of dried chopped fruits from her fruitcakes. Yum I can taste the maraschino cherries now! 🍒😋🤤
I just tried making it. It is now cooling for the next 6 hours. Fingers crossed that it worked! I'd love to be able to include a few pieces in the treat tins i'm handing out. Also if i develop a repetitive strain injury, it'll be from all that stirring. :P haha! Thanks for the simple to follow recipe and instructions.
I love torrone more than anything else and can pig a lot of it down. I can't stop, it's so good. I've never attempted to make it for this reason. Mmmm, nutty nougat.
WOW!!! This looks DELICIOUS and DELIGHTFUL! I've got to make this for Christmas. I'm in charge of dessert 🍨 and if I turned up with this, as well as the pudding I've already made, I think my reputation as a cook would sky-rocket! Thank you for this marvellous recipe 😘 😊 😋😋😋😋😋❤❤❤
Worth every second of effort! I love this candy. I would get boxes of it at an Italian market in Ohio. There is a version of it from South America. The SA version is hard and crunchy and comes in a plate sized slab. I always referred to it as adult candy
Not sure about stevia, I think they make a baking version of it. But I know Splenda is a good one. Look at the web sites of the brand you buy they should be able to answer your questions.
With a lot of nuts packed into it and the protein and fat from those as well as the protein from the egg whites, if you chop it into small pieces it probably isn't outrageously carby and the fat and protein content may offset sugar spikes if eaten in small quantities?
Thank you so much! I’ve always wanted to learn to make nougat. I once found a recipe but found it impossible to understand. Part of the pleasure of nougat, though, is the paper. I would love to learn to make that too.

Nummy! I loved this as a child…and never before seen a recipe…thank you!
So perfect and yummy! for the Christmas holiday thanks for the Delicious treat share and God bless you.✌💕🙏🍷😘🍰
Looks really nutty and delicious. Packed with healthy foods... Thanks for sharing.
Thank you so much for the recipe! I’ve just finished it, the 45 minutes of stirring killed me. But I think it was worth it, judging by the taste. I’m waiting for it to cool down now, can’t wait to give pieces of it as a gift! ❤️
Hi, how it was ?
@@Iriel.89 Very hard to cut 😂 But it melts in the mouth, the taste of honey is heavenly… perfect recipe! 😍
@@annabelleb2526 thanks you!
I did it today... let's see tomorrow
I would totally pull out a filling for that! Gorgeous!
I’ll definitely make this for Christmas.
It will make lovely little gifts for others too.

There goes my weekend, I have to watch, thanks a million.

@@vintage_violet nougat, I think.
@@vintage_violet Commonly known as NOUGAT. Some call it also TORRONE an Italian treat.
Hope this enlightens you.
Woooooow, just perfect! I adore this delight, but never known how its made. Tnx
I love that, I didn't know how to do it yourself, now I know, THANK YOU
Oh wow that looks super delicious 🤤 I will definitely make it for Christmas! Thanks so much and merry Christmas and happy New Year to you and all your loved ones
I remember having these during the holidays by the candy brand, BRACH'S with candy or nuts. We brought thim from Sear's store and they were so fresh. I loved them! But I've never had them homemade. I must try this recipe, and THANK YOU! FOR SHARING.
its hard work .. take care with the final cooking ..
Yum, this reminds of the Brach's nougat Candy that my Dad would bring home every chance he could get. They had dried fruit in them too though. So delicious!!
ahhh thanks!! I wondered if this recipe was like that!!
Same here!!!! Such a nostalgic throwback!
I wonder if you could add dried fruit?
Karen and Kim I knew I wasn't the only one to prefer dried fruits to nuts!
My favorite Brachs candy of all. A Big Hu k candy bar was a close second. Both must be fresh or the nougat gets hard enough to do dental damage.
Muy rico, lo prepararé para el 31 de diciembre, gracias por tu receta. 💕
Very yummy
Hier ist wieder silvia aus Deutschland verkaufst du auch von allem etwas ich habe die Finger durch eine krankheit kaputt.Ich bezahle auch dafür !!DU WÜRDEST MIR SEHR HELFEN!!DANKE !!
BTW, loved the music 💗
Thanks for showing how to make this type of turrón/guirlache! It is one of my favorites along with "turrón de Alicante"! You showed "el punto" to determine when to remove the mixture after incorporating and cooking the egg whites. How do you determine when to remove the honey/sugar mixture from the heat, ie. what indication you use or at what temperature in a candy thermometer? Felicidades!
Cook for 30 minutes stirring constantly.
Ohhhhh! Brings back my childhood days. I never made it. But always bought in the store. So DELISH!
I've always wondered how this was made!
👍
Viv - No you didn't.
Does it sorta taste like the Big Hunk candy bar?
Now you know how its made

It looks beautiful! A lot of love went into making this.
Amo torrone, amei essa versão ❤ 👏👏👏👏👏 .
I never knew this was so easy to make! Had it as a kid in Spain.
My Grama used to make this - I had no idea all the effort!
@@AmberAmber So nice to know that the effort is appreciated by you. Some folks here sound like cooking something a little more work intensive is the end of the world. I know folks are busy I am too but I guess many just want their meals delivered these days. Hope you do try to make it though if only to honor the elders.
@@carlac9782 I'm planning on it - I'm trying to become a better cook!! Take care dear & stay healthy.🫂☮
You had me at toasted pistachios. ❤️ That looks delightful. 🤗
This looks like the best thing ever. My entire family has nut allergies apart from me. Definitely making this.
umm you tryna off them huh
I'm going to try this recipe for Christmas. Thank you. I love Nougat. ❤❤😂
This will rip out every filling in my mouth and it will taste amazing
😂 😂 😂
If it’s like the candy Big Hunk, throwing it in microwave for a few seconds softens it right up
@@The_Cat_Authority that was because of the nut, not the nougat
@@bevybowen2138 who are you correcting? If you read my comment I never said the nougat was responsible for making it hard.
This looks so mouthwatering 😋 Thank you for sharing this delicious Recipe 🙏😊

Un turrón digno para dar cierre al año, muchas gracias. ¿Considera que la miel de abeja se pueda sustituir por miel de agave o con azúcar? Gracias y saludos.
You need honey for fluidity . Agave should be fine i imagine .
As a kid I made this with my Grandma. We always added a bit of dried chopped fruits from her fruitcakes. Yum I can taste the maraschino cherries now! 🍒😋🤤
😋😋
Nossa! Então é assim que faz o delicioso Torrone! 😋
I wish this was as common a holiday treat in America but it is kinda hard to find so most people make it.
Ok so your audio is awesome! The sounds of the eggs cracking, parchment paper and wrap, love it.
How did your nougat turn out? Have you tried it yet? Hope it worked out for your Xmas treat tins.
I have always wanted to try making my own nougat, now i can, thank-you for this recipe xx
Thank you so much for this simple recipe and your demonstration.
I’m going to add dried cranberries or cherries 🍒

I love torrone more than anything else and can pig a lot of it down. I can't stop, it's so good. I've never attempted to make it for this reason. Mmmm, nutty nougat.
Oooh yummm! I buy this from a Middle Eastern bakery near my house. But now I am going to try making it!

Worth every second of effort! I love this candy. I would get boxes of it at an Italian market in Ohio. There is a version of it from South America.
The SA version is hard and crunchy and comes in a plate sized slab. I always referred to it as adult candy
I think you're referring to nougatine. And this is nougat 🙂
Looks absolutely delicious, but what a labour of love with over an hour all up just standing there constantly stirring it!
Love this! Wondering if you can substitute Stevia for sugar (for diabetics?)
What's able the honey?
Not sure about stevia, I think they make a baking version of it. But I know Splenda is a good one. Look at the web sites of the brand you buy they should be able to answer your questions.
Y la miel porqué la sustituye ⁉️😬🥴🤗
@@c3piano
La miel apta para diabéticos. 😬🥴🤗😂🤣
With a lot of nuts packed into it and the protein and fat from those as well as the protein from the egg whites, if you chop it into small pieces it probably isn't outrageously carby and the fat and protein content may offset sugar spikes if eaten in small quantities?
