- I'm back with a surprise Critical Role campaign 2's animatic! Recent;y, I was re-watching C2 and saw a lot of stuffs about Caleb, Jester, Molly and Beau that I'd love to animate. And even though it would be impossible for me alone to do it, let's give it a headstart, shall we?

Nott & Caleb’s early dynamic is great to rewatch with the knowledge that actually Caleb is the child and Nott is the surrogate parent ☺️
Caleb: mom I want to go home 😔
Nott: no son, socialize!

It's kinda sad, because Caleb actually didn't know this. Like, in one scene, after something bad happened, idr what, Liam literally says "Knowing how young Nott is, Caleb holds her close." Not realizing that Nott was thinking the exact same thing about Caleb in that scene.
Also so hard to think about how reserved Caleb was to the group with how integrel he is now

@@Hey-Its-Dingo Yeah, I was going to say it depended on who you asked. Both saw themselves as the parent and the other as the child. This, of course, makes their relationship complicated but hilarious to watch.

Taliesin spends a lot of time very artfully dodging a lot of comments and questions. It's impressive.
Im so mad, that's so good. I swear to god every time I rewatch clips I find new foreshadowing.
watch that part again with subtitles on. trust me.
Pause immediately after "They all look the same after a while" with subtitles on to catch the cheeky spoiler the animator slipped in.
@@jazzardperi2142 The subtitles seem to be messed up, unfortunately. They appear to be the auto-generated ones with some inaccuracies. :(
The transition to "the people we met are lunatics!" got me hahahahahha
I counted that 4 times in campaigns im in, all said by a cleric (me included)

if they make this into an animation like they are doing with vox machina I hope they animate this part exactly like it's done here

Liam and Sam in campaign 2 is a really good example of roleplaying characters that don't want to be part of a group initially. It also helped that Matt made a scenario to force them all to work together.
And then the payoff during the Iron Shepherds Arc was so good!
Yep. For all people complained about characters that didn't want to be together, it actually made the group dynamic work really well.
@@beepboprobotsnot3748 i remember a little scene after the initial iron shepherds confrontation, Caleb was saying how he was gonna do all this stuff to get jester, fjord an yasha back and Nott asked him why he wanted to do all that, why was he so intent on going after someone... what emotional ties kept him from just walking away and even though he didn't outright say it, both he an Nott knew why he was so passionate about getting his family back.
It helped that the two of them were at least loyal to eachother
Except Yasha. She had a pass to GTFO. :D
Nott playing with the drapes as she talks Caleb into giving "the crazies" another shot is kind of adorable
I love that Caleb was kind of right in this scene looking back, sticking with the M9 did draw attention to him and led him to Trent, but also being with the M9 steeled him for the confrontation and helped him not lose his shit, something that, at this point, he thought was impossible.
The M9 also kept Caleb from going down a much darker path, which was a possibility even with them for awhile.
@@jlokison Liam states in the post campaign episode that yes he did have a much darker, more isolated path for Caleb but the M9, specifically jester kept pulling him towards the path he ended with.
Befriending damaged individuals and making them better people, practically at knifepoint, is the Mighty Nein's stock in trade.

It's hard to do cheat on Molly's animation cause he doesn't have pupils. So his pose is more elaborate and I hate it TwT (But love you Molly nonetheless)
honestly, I think that made the animation more 'real'. I feel like Molly would be a person that gesticulates much and has a more active body language bc of his circus background. But I can understand that that makes the animating more difficult 😅

Hearing Nott's voice from this is crazy 😂 it's changed so much! It has more of a british undertone here, but where I am it's just absolutely screaming and high pitched beauty 💀

FCG has a better dynamic with everyone than they have with Ashton tbh
@@punusername3445 Yeah but the best buddies angle goes to Ashton and Fresh Cut Grass. Episode 27 proves it with Ashton's heart-to-heart where he threatens to "fucking kill" whoever makes Grass feel bad. If Dancer turns out to be a low down conniving bitch, Ashton's going to smash her fucking skull in.

I forgot that Sam gave Nott a British accent in the early parts of the campaign lmfao. That didn't last.
And Molly had and on-again-off-again Irish accent. Almost.

Fuck, this makes me want to re-watch C2 so much (honestly, from hearing Liam as Caleb). You did a beautiful job animating them all, ESPECIALLY Molly. SO dynamic! So in character!
I'm watching Campaign 2 now and seeing this really highlights how Nott's accent changed from vaguely British to something completely American. I don't think I noticed when it happened. But I'm at Episode 85 now and she sounds nothing like this anymore.
Could have been around episode 25...

Yeah... About that, the files were corrupted halfway and the only way to recover it is by manually finding and exporting each layer and time it again. At that time, I was already animating for 6 hours. I was exhausted and didn't notice it 😅

Campaign 2 is my favorite and it does my heart good to know that it's still being brought to life by such talented people. Lord knows these goofy lunatics help me get through some dark nights

And seven years later, even after the Mighty Nein drift apart to pursue their individual interests, Caleb is still working with Beau on a regular basis.
I would pay 1 million dollars if CR animated JUST the first episodes of them meeting in CR even if we never get a full season of c2.

I'd totally forgotten the origin of the term "Skinky doodie"
God, early campaign 2 was so good. I mean, they threw together their campaign 1 characters in an afternoon thinking a one-shot was all they were going to use them for but they all really flexed their creative muscles for the Mighty Nein knowing they were going to be sitting in those characters for hundreds of hours. Watching them all clearly enjoying keeping secrets from eachother was great. The campaign 3 characters are all kinda open books in comparison.

also wow hearing how their voices have changed (Caleb and Nott especially-- I guess Fjord too lol) is funny
Just commenting to add that the staging and illusion of depth throughout the whole animatic is fantastic!!
Oh and-I just adore the way you had Nott draw the curtains for emphasis
I've noticed many artists making c2 animatics again recently and I'm here for it

@@Deelusi They're really well made! I'm a fairly new critter and there has been plenty of times I've thought that a scene in the campaign would be so good animated and thus here I am on your channel.
Originally I thought doing investigation in a small town is kinda boring, but looking back at the beginning of C2 after all those had happened, I miss those leisure awkward chatting moment when everyone is still together…

Nott was kinda right here. The amount of encounters they've had with people throughout the campaign, a fair amount of them didn't even register her presence until she spoke.

The funny thing, regarding the "little sister thing", is that Travis [Fjord] (at least when I listened to it) didn't misword his deception; everyone just misinterpreted what he said in the exact same way.
I'm enjoying C3, but so far I think C2 is my favorite.
