    The greatest man ever lived in the history of Man.
    People call him Master even though he has no servant. Some call him Teacher even though he has no degree.
    Some loved him
    Some despise him
    Some praised him and
    Some persecuted him.
    But no matter what, he saved our sins through his crucifixtion.

      Christ's sacrifice was not merely for those who loved him. Rather his sacrifice was so that all of us might have a chance at redemption.
      But in order to truly be his disciples, we must live by the things he taught, as he said in the Gospel of John:
      "If you obey my teachings, you're truly my disciples." - John 8:31.
      A person, man or woman, can claim to be Christian all they want, but if they do not actually obey Christ's teachings, not just hearing/reading them but actively striving to apply those principles in their lives, then they're not genuine Christians, but merely Christian in name only.
      It's not just enough to claim you believe, your actions have to reflect it, as the Disciple James, who was in fact Jesus' own half-brother, later wrote:
      " You see that a person is considered righteous by what they do and not by faith alone... just as the body without spirit is dead, so face without deeds is dead." - James 2:24,26.
      Only those who actively apply Christ's principles in their lives will be blessed for their efforts, even though they're imperfect just like everyone else, because they're giving God something to bless.

    As a woman and follower of Christ, I think this will be an interesting perspective. I always thought 'If I was alive in that time, I would follow Jesus everywhere he went, listen to His every word, and love Him with all my heart'. Mary was the same way, where her love for Jesus might have looked romantic, but was more pure. Though, I wouldn't be surprised if she did fall in love with Jesus, but controlled her feelings because she knew who He was. Romantic love does not compare to the love of God. If Mary had any romantic feelings, I'm sure she fought it away to be closer to God. Yes, this movie will probably be controversial depending on which way they take it, but I'm hoping they don't try to romanticize their relationship. Jesus loved Mary just as He loved His disciples, but lets not forget that Jesus was also a man when He walked on the earth and He too had to fight against temptation. The only difference was, He won against sin and death.
    I'm also looking forward to seeing the perspective of women at that time, and I hope they don't antagonize Peter too much.

    I cried watching this trailer. Whether or not it's historically true, it tells a certain perspective that has a deeper truth. This is not necessarily how I would have interpreted Mary Magdalene, but there is something beautiful in the vision of her that is expressive of a woman's perspective.

      Belinda Peng, you're the perfect toy hollywood are aiming to shape the mind, by injecting propaganda through fictional scenes not historical, this is hollywood there are here to influence the masse and make a lot of money, if you cry over a hollywood movie, then you should seek for help, Mary was a pious woman, but also a woman of her time, hollywood need to inject some women empowering crap to make people like you cry and spend 20 bucks to go watch the movie, that's how they make their money and penetrate the emotion and mind of poor souls like you

    I just want to get this straight, and I’m saying this as humble as I can be right now. If you truly are a follower of Jesus, you would stop instigating fights against your fellow brothers and sisters on social media. Stop using your faith as a way to be a bully to someone who doesn’t truly understand fully. Before you do anything in life think to yourself “What would Jesus do?” Seriously, lets make this world a better place through Him our Lord and Savior. You are not perfect, so stop thinking that YOU KNOW EVERYTHING!

      I agree that bullying should not take place, but Jesus would speak truth. 🤷🏾‍♀️ He didn’t accept sin and false teachings. He spoke against it and encouraged repentance. For those who don’t ‘fully understand’ they should read the Word for themselves and not rely on the misguided opinions of MAN on social apps. We are all responsible for our own soul salvation. 1 Corinthians 16:13-14. Take up your own cross and follow Him. God bless 🙏🏾

    This is a great film, based on The Gospel Of Mary Magdalene, from the 2nd century, discovered in Egypt only in 1945, censored by the nascent Catholic Church in the 3rd/4th century. It is not about romantic love about Jesus and Mary Magdalene but about the importance of women in early Christianity. Indeed, in the canonical Gospels, Mary Magdalene was the first witness and believer of the resurrected Jesus

    I have many thoughts, but the only really important one is this: the Bible does not record Jesus baptizing anyone, not even his disciples. And while there's no verse I can point to and quote that tells what the exact reason was, a reasonable theory I have heard is that He didn't want anyone to use the fact that He had baptized them as something to lord over others. One thing I do appreciate about this trailer is that it mentions that Mary suffered from demon possession. This is true, according to the Bible. so often people label her as a prostitute in pop culture and she wasn't. Not that Jesus wouldn't have been kind to her if she had been, she just wasn't and pop culture often gets that wrong.

    • @chloedejonge
      @chloedejonge 6 років тому

      labelling MM as a prostitute comes from the same 'mix up' as the demon possession - I could explain it here, but why would I, it takes a quick google search in case you are interested.

    Mary Magdalene was a ride or die Chick. She stood loyal to Jesus to his last breath. She stuck with him from when he started his mission n stood by him till his death. She watched him get sentenced to death, watched him get beaten n she was right beside Jesus Mother as Jesus walked his last walk to where they crusified him. She watch the crusifixion n saw him past away. She helped Jesus Mother clean his dead body before placing him in his tomb n she was the 1st one Jesus revealed himself too when he Resurrected. She was probably his most true n loyal follower even more than any of Jesus disciples.

    I’ve been looking through the comments, and first of all, guys, everyone knows most of this story is going to be fictional. Scripture, and Tradition ( I’m Catholic) say very little in the way of detail when it comes to St. Mary Magdalene. If anyone goes to watch it they should not be angry over It not being accurate. They should go see it al almost as “holy fan fiction” lol! Go, if you want to go enjoy it as the movie it is. If you don’t want to go, then don’t, but don’t be rude to the people that want to see it. It’s just a movie guys. St. Mary Magdalene was an amazing woman from who we can learn to follow Our Lord to the end, fearlessly, and wholeheartedly. Let’s focus on that :)

    • @Lawrence2525
      @Lawrence2525 6 років тому +2

      I might be wrong, but she has never been sanctified. On the contrary, Mary Magdalene has always had bad reputation amongst Cristians, it's common knowledge for her to be identified as the prostitute who washed Christ's feet, but nowhere in the Gospel(s) this is mentioned. It was all a "set up" to shed a bad light on her (at least according to my professors).

      Lawrence2525 also, you know, like I said I’m Catholic so I’m not altogether certain of how Our Protestant brothers and sisters view St. Mary Magdalene, but in the Catholic Church she has always has a beautiful place. Some of the first churches and hymns were made in her honor. She was looked up to by the the very first Christians for her example of following the Lord all the way to the cross.

    Wow, you people have no clue what this is about. This is about forgiveness, compassion, and redemption.
    I like how this humanizes Christ. He might have been "Son of God" to those that believe, but he was in a human body. He showed more humanness, more than any body. You people who think this is heresy... you really think your interpretation of events from TWO THOUSAND YEARS ago are correct? You think the Bible is a legitimately accurate history? This is as much of a story as the bible is itself. It is to show example of humanness and to entertain, not record history accurately. I like this portrait of Jesus. Most other pictures before show this super serious, almost morbid, version. This is more likely how he was, good natured and compassionate.
    And by the way, I'm an atheist. However, I do acknowledge he existed and any story that shows compassion and forgiveness is one worth watching, regardless of religious beliefs. Remove yourself from the dogma and take from it what you can.

    • @jimllc
      @jimllc 7 років тому +13

      Yes, thank you. I'm a Lutheran through and through and anybody who denies Jesus was a human with human emotions and any aspect that makes a human human misses the point of why God gave his son to the Earth in the first place. It wasn't to prove how his son was superior or this magical creature, it was to sacrifice himself THROUGH his son AS one of us to save every other human. That's the biggest aspect of the New Testament that everybody loves to gloss over. Doubly so when it comes to Mary Mags.

    • @atoetral9644
      @atoetral9644 7 років тому +8

      Im no atheist but I agree with you. Jesus came with us to show us how to be compassionate and good natured. I think he smiles down (or even laugh) at us who's pretending to know everything and define everything with a human mind.

      The problem with that is the bible even highlighted how much the two meant to each other. They might not make it a fully romantic relationship, but I don't doubt that they're gonna add in some sort of romance between the two.

    • @seanyonthemic
      @seanyonthemic 7 років тому +68

      Well I don’t doubt they meant a lot to one another. His disciples mattered so much to Him and He mattered very much to them. Whenever I’ve read the scriptures I see reverent relationship that Mary had for Jesus and a desire to follow Him. She of course becomes a witness of proof of His resurrection.
      I just think a romantic relationship even a slight one, wouldn’t stay true to the scriptures. That’s all I’m saying.

There IS a Gospel of Mary Magdalene removed from the Bible during The Council of Nicea, She was cleared of her rumored reputation by the Catholic Church and was only labeled as a prostitute by a Pope like 500 years ago so that women couldn't have a high position in the church. This movie was about Love Compassion and Faith and Joaquin Phoenix did an AMAZING job portraying Jesus.*

    To all the people saying black people are just complaining about this historically inaccurate film and that they should get to work and create something for themselves...
    If you actually knew the history as to why there aren't more people of color in movies and how they were purposely and systematically marginalized despite their constant efforts to be in the place of these famous actors writers and directors, then you would understand why people complain about this ridiculously historically inaccurate film. But you aren't educated enough to actually look into the history of it. The concept that someone would actually accept the idea that black people are 'just lazy' and never tried at all to achieve what white people have today despite all of the factual evidence of their systematic oppression is so incredibly idiotic.

    I watched it last Saturday and it really wows me finally the correct and true account of Mary Magdalene the most mention woman of the Bible, the most important to Jesus. I love the movie the Passion of Christ but the only false that Mel put in his movie is that he used the same actress that played Mary Magdalene to play the sinner that the Priests brought to Jesus but in the Bible that sinner is an unnamed woman. I give this movie 10 out of 10 and will watch it again in Easter weekend...

      venomusdrake 288 if you’d READ my comment you would have seen that I never once stated they had a romantic relationship. A relationship doesn’t always have to be romantic but this was freakin Jesus you don’t just have a “wassup dude how’s it going” friendship. They must’ve had something more spiritual. Also, I don’t trust the bible word for word on how events played out. History gets written by the winners and therefore not a wide range of views. Keep in mind that woman were treated as if they had no voice, so yes, I’m interested in how this movie portrays HER version of events. If you aren’t willing to see many points of view and shape your ideas around it go ahead and stick to one source and one only, the bible.

    • @venomusdrake2888
      @venomusdrake2888 6 років тому +2

      Jenn H First of all, if you don't belive in Bible as whole then you my friend have no point on writting down this comment. Do they have any actual evidence that Mary exsisted? No. Therefore it is all in Bible, so if you don't belive in it completely what the heck are you writting this down. Your "point of view " can't exsist without logic that you're missing. Of course it was spiritual but remeber God is our Father and Only true friend, so again, you can say to him "hello my friend "in a meaning much deeper.

    • @jennh3106
      @jennh3106 6 років тому +1

      venomusdrake 288 I grew up around the bible with a devoted family. This doesn’t mean I’m not going to ask questions. You’re right that I don’t believe the bible as a whole but that doesn’t mean I don’t agree with some parts and therefore shouldn’t have any opinion on the matter. You say there is no evidence Mary even existed but that can go for several events in the bible. You praise it and yet you go back on your own beliefs by stating you need evidence to believe? I’m just trying to understand why some people seem SO sure they know EXACTLY how events played out, at least enough to know Mary couldn’t have had a relationship with Jesus.

    • @venomusdrake2888
      @venomusdrake2888 6 років тому +1

      Jenn H you are not getting what i said. I belive in Bible completely, ok.That means i belive everything that it's said in the Bible. You however, commented yourself that how can we be sure and i answered you. You said you don't belive in some parts of Bible and i told you why we are sure that they had relationship ( bexause it's written in Bible, also many saints after explain the whole secret behind God and His relationship with humans and followers. ) Now you question yourself, i have said that for this ( Mary exsisting and her relationship with God, Jesus )there are no evidence except what's written in Bible. Therefore you can only be sure if you belive, you even questioning in other ways than that is stupid. As i said you don't have any evidence that mary exsisted in real life except Bible, so if you don't belive in Bible completely but you doubt about things that don't exsist in real life ( sugesting by evidence) is just illogical.

      Do we have to take as gospel what a few Illiterate fishermen wrote 2 millennia ago, and was translated and reinterpreted hundreds upon hundreds of times each with an agenda? As a Christian, I take the bible as an embellished reference on how to be a good person. And I think if more people followed it in that way, the world would be a better place. I think the general gist of it, is to be humble, even if you're a god, teach your followers through example how to live, live, eat, and laugh with them, until like any being who has ever preached love in this bitter world, someone ends up screwing you and you die. It's more of a tale about human nature that we have never learned to interpret or use.

    The issue is that there was no romantic relationship between Jesus and Mary Magdalene. Jesus said that anyone who "looks on a woman with lust in his heart" (Matthew 5:28), has SINNED! The Word states that Jesus "knew no sin" (2 Corinthians 5:21), so to say that He had ANY sort of romantic attraction to Mary is Biblically false and blasphemous.

      In that passage, “lust” is synonymous with “covet”- meaning desiring to have them as yours. We all belong to God.
      Your comment explains so aptly why so many followers of abrahamic religions are scared of sexuality and sex, believing it’s sinful and wrong. Romantic love is one of the most beautiful experiences that we can have as humans. Why would you deny Jesus that joy? Scared of “sinning”? As in loving someone beyond belief is suddenly a sin now? Dear god.

    • @joshuasmith9312

      @@zain4019 None of us "belong" to God in a sexual way. His love for us (Agape) is meant to express His deep desire that ALL would come to repentance and that none should perish.
      You're referring to a different form of love (Eros) that is never used when talking about how God loves His people or how Christ loved anyone he interacted with, including, but not limited to, Mary Magdalene.
      Sex is BEAUTIFUL and God created the institution that would allow it (marriage between a man and woman). No one is "scared" of sex. Many people have sought to pervert that institution from the very beginning of time and this latest abominable iteration of Jesus Christ's relationship with one of His followers is no exception.

    Another blasphemous Jesus film but oh wait there's a twist of feminism. This is exactly what the Bible says, "They listen (or watch) what their itching ears want to hear". Mary wasn't endorsing feminism at the time of Jesus nor was there ever a problem with women being baptized in the Bible. Dear viewer, in case you watch the film, make sure that you see what is truth and what is not. The director is mostly likely not a Christian and is portraying Mary Magdalene through his own view and his view is not the truth. The truth is in the Bible. Don't fall for the lie or the emotional message that comes with it. God bless.

      Excuuuuuse me, but Jesus appearing to Mary Magdalene first to proclaim his message after his death and resurrection seems pretty feminist to me. But what do I know... (sips tea)

    Rooney is so amazing as an Actress. Isn't amazing how she and Chitiwel Ejiofor are linked to each other through Sarah Paulson. Rooney worked with her in Carol, and Chitiwel worked with her in 12 Years A Slave. Joaquin Phoenix is the brother of the Late River Phoenix who worked in Stand By Me, that had Kiefer Sutherland (Son of Donald Sutherland) who worked in A Time To Kill with Samuel L. Jackson who worked with John Travolta in Pulp Fiction and let's not forget that Sandra Bullock worked on A Time To Kill as well with Cate Blanchett so there's the link.

    Great movie. I love this fairy tale very much. Perfect cast. Pity I was not present at the time of Jesus and Mary Magdalene, so I could answer to those angry replies. No one saw what colour of the skin Jesus or Mary had, no one saw who wrote the Bible, no one saw what really happened then. But people are very angry and quick to judge. This work is not a documentary, this is a Fiction about Love, Forgiveness, and Mercy.

    I feel so connected to her. My name comes from her's (Madeline-Magdalene) and my birthday, according to the Catholic church, is her saint day. She was so important in history and to Christianity and Christ himself, and yet her name is linked to the whore. It never stated that that was her, yet people assume. She was the representative, the female disciple, and the true one to lead Jesus' followers for him, except she was a woman. In those days and that culture, women were never seen equal. But Jesus saw something in her. Something that is finally as close as we can, show on screens for the entire world to see.

    • @mrseaflower1564

      The Catholic church made her into a saint. That's the tiniest bit of acknowledgment that she really deserves, unlike other denominations.

      The problem with any story about Jesus is that it's not really spoiling if it's already been done to death (bad choice of words I'm sorry) and if you're the kind of person who'd watch the film you already know the story.

    Jesus was a man, people seem to forget. Regardless what was written, what is actually in the Bible, all his followers including Mary were witnesses, but yet her voice, her story has been left out. Like countless others who have followed him. What is the Vatican hiding? There is more to the story then what we are told. The bible was created by man, put together by man, scripture picked and put together to form a book THEY wanted, the stories THEY wanted humanity to read and know.
    Humans really need to think about how the Bible was created, and the true purpose of it. People say its the word of God, but its a book created by man.

      PJ Reactions ahahhahaha do you realise that you just said that the Bible was written by men?! Well if it was as you said, then Mary could be just somebodys' imagination. Which she is not, if you are educated enaugh, you would know this. Of course Jesus was human, but by any acts he was GOD and still IS. In Bible it's written that he was human by the looks but there was no Sin in Him. Also He Himself said that any man or woman is His brother or sister.

      I’m referring to 300 AD during the days of emperor Constantine. When the formation of the Bible was being established.
