    I rode TT2 on Tuesday!! In my opinion, it is better than the original. I think everything they added more than makes up for the lack of hydraulic launch. Going backwards at 100mph up that spike, and looking down on Power Tower riders is a bonkers feeling. Plus the train pops over the top hat. Also an unexpected bonus are the twists on either side of the top hat, they whip you! And yes , I definitely felt the increase in speed from 100 to 120mph. Hopefully I can get on it again on opening day.

      I think the more whippy downward spiral is a surprise bonus nobody really expected. I have seen one really pointing out that they cut into the support structure in order to have enough clearance for the higher trains.

      I rode it on Thursday, back car and front car - definitely ejector airtime on both ends of the train...and I was really surprised at how long you experience weightlessness on the spike

  • @bpark10001
    @bpark10001 Місяць тому +17

    The spike is built that high for safety. When a track has an end, you NEVER want to get to the end of it! It is tall enough to handle safely the fastest launch that the LSM is capable of. It costs little to extend the spike as the track forces are theoretically zero there.
    The other safety issue is that track switch. If it EVER gets in the wrong position or misaligned, during a launch, the riders are TOAST.

    • @aandc_0
      @aandc_0 Місяць тому +3

      im pretty sure the switch track physically locks, so it physically cannot move when there is a train on the launch segment. Also, the LSMs can be used to brake, though i doubt it'd be able to stop the train before the track

    • @rogerkeen4392
      @rogerkeen4392 Місяць тому +8

      The switch track 100% physically locks in place during the launch cycle… also the at the preview event Wednesday the LSM brought a train to a dead stop in about 200 feet after coming back down the spike.

    • @CoasterDash
      @CoasterDash  Місяць тому +3

      These are both entirely wrong. Tony Clark confirmed the rear end of the train only hits 365-375 ft of the 420 ft of track making up the spike. Also, the switch track locks into place as the ride engages with it’s three launches 😅

    The air resistance and friction reduces the speed more than you think, so even though the first launch might only take you to 70, that doesn't mean the second takes you FROM 70 to 100, as by that point the train will be down to about 60 due to the energy it lost on the non-LSM track, so really it's more like a 40mph difference. Same deal with the third launch, the frictional effects are exponential so going 100 up the spike means by the time you get down it's probably only going about 80. So once again, it's more like a 40mph launch again.

      @densonhyde1 Місяць тому

      Those friction losses seem a bit on the high side, though you are correct after the spike the speed will be lower than 100 mph. Frictional effects do not increase exponentially with velocity though, air resistance dominates at high speed and is proportional to the square of the velocity.

    • @chrisogrady28
      @chrisogrady28 Місяць тому

      @@densonhyde1 I was just using fictional effects to encompass air resistance as it is a type of friction. So if mechanical friction increases linearly and air resistance increases exponentially, the total friction is still increasing exponentially

    I rode it last Wednesday 5/1 and have to say that the LSMs seem to have a boost function as the train accelerates you feel a boost about halfway down the first launch. Backwards at 101mph was amazing and the third pass over 100mph from the station to tophat my God what a rush. Both twists are very whippy and yes in the backseat it was sustained ejector from the apex of the tophat to the pullout at the bottom. I do miss the original launch, but TT2 feels like a more complete ride.

    I got to ride TT2 for the first time today. I was most surprised by the intensity going up the spike and top hat, the airtime cresting the top hat, and the insane whip going through the 270 degree spiral (The Zamperla trains are higher off the ground, so that effects the heartline of that element). I was a bit disappointed by the launches, bc even though I knew they wouldn't be as intense as the OG, they didn't really have a kick to them, they just felt gradual. Also the ride was a bit shaky (I was in the back row so maybe that's why). I think the OG dragster is better than TT2, but I really enjoyed my ride today and I think you will too!

    The top of the spike is beyond vertical for the last 2 sections of track to ensure the train can't get near the end of the track, which doesn't have any stoppers. The trains sometimes do touch the last white spike section of track by a few feet, so that's as close to the top as you'd ever want to get for safety reasons.

    I rode at the passholder preview yesterday (May 01) in the front row and I think your criticisms were valid, even though TT2 is largely successful.
    Both things can be true.
    Top Thrill Dragster had my favorite launch of any coaster and the intimidation/anticipation factor of the ride was far higher than its successor. The ride itself wasn't a "complete and satisfying" experience, but it was one of the biggest thrills I would get from any ride. The first time I got off shivering uncontrollably from adrenaline and it took minutes to wind down to anything resembling "normal". Even after repeated rides I likened it to espresso. It gave an afterglow.
    TT2 trades out anticipation and acceleration for sustained speed. No "arms down". No hearing/seeing the brake fins retract, feeling the train roll back that few mm onto the catch car, holding your head back, desperate for and dreading the moment the 'tree lights up.
    The first launch and stall ("rollback") is better than I expected from the animation, but it's still pretty mellow. The rolling launches feel like hitting the afterburners and I've loved that sensation ever since riding Volcano back in the day. The back spike is great fun, but ultimately as much about the view as the forces. The top hat slaps now and makes for an excellent finale. But on the whole TT2 just doesn't have a lot of intensity. The only REALLY intense moment (with respect to forces) is the climb into the tophat after the 3rd launch - you're really cooking and the positive Gs definitely hit. While TTD was 18 seconds of insanity, TT2 is mostly fun executed on a grand scale.
    I suspect the majority of people (read: general public) will prefer TT2. And a good number of enthusiasts might too - because it's definitely more complete. But make no mistake, it is the softer drug.
    I also think it's fair to say there was lots of potential (faster first launch/ higher rollback, speed hill in the swing launch, some clever geometry and/or vertical LSMs to give the spike some extra airtime or kick) that was available in the footprint and shunned. It has a real "don't overthink it - make the easy decision" feel. It gets the fundamentals right and mostly relies on it's speed and size to bring the thrills. Because of that I think it's about "half a letter grade" below the OG for me - but probably ranks similarly within the park - behind SteVen, Mav, and Mille, but in the mix or just ahead of Raptor and Gatekeeper.

    • @robertpolk9910
      @robertpolk9910 Місяць тому

      Try the back row, it's intense going backwards at 101 mph, going up the spike with hang time, and both 270 degree twists are intense with ejector, as is the ejector air you get cresting and going over the top hat. I rode Dragster over 100 times and it couldn't compete with ride #1 on TT2 in the back row! By the way, TT2 was my 700th coaster and it was worth the 2 hour wait yesterday to ride it!

    I rode TTD in the back 3 times in 2018 and it was awesome; almost on par with my 2022 ride on Kinda Ka in the front. But TT2 looks better than either, especially in the back ROW (not back car like usual; due to the back spike giving the back row of the back car more of a drop and more airtime than the 2nd back row of the same car; the same principal I discovered riding Full Throttle at SFMM in Nov 2019, but I digress).
    The duration: back spike, speed over the top hat and the 270 degree twist now look to provide a thrill Kinda Ka and TTD couldn't, the latter due to the new trains. While I thought the layout could have been better after the drop (the same unrealistic pipe dream every dumb 'thusie like me used to have): I still I thought TT2 would be better than TTD when it was announced, and that looks to be confirmed now. Additionally: 'thusies can ride TT2 its best row: the back, while everyone else wastes time waiting for the front. My only question is this: What's not to love about TT2?

Even though the die hard fans of the original like yourself have been skeptical, hopefully it will be a fun, memorable experience. Glad to finally hear a logical take on this. The weak first launch and pathetic excuse for a “rollback” alone make this whole thing a monumental disappointment. Sure the spike looks cool but not at the expense of that punchy 0-120mph launch and an actual rollback. Really wanted to see something more after the top hat too. And not to mention hiring a completely unproven company to engineer it. What?!?! They had a chance to revolutionize the coaster world yet again but totally cheaped out instead. So disappointed.

    I keep hearing the incorrect description of the ride that "you're only adding 19 mph". This is wrong. You're changing directions twice and virtually coming to a complete stop each time. You are re-experiencing the g's over and over. "You gain just 19 mph" says the narrator. Um, what? You're reversing directions, again, and going 0 to 120 mph, most of which acceleration comes very quickly from the straight face-down drop.
    Marc, you're wrong about this ride and your lack of understanding simple physics is a little bizarre. Or perhaps your phrasing was just poor word choice intended to make the ride sound intentionally less exciting? Regardless, you're wrong and this ride is awesome.

    Another thing I thought of earlier is how the shift of momentum in a swing launch can actually make a ride feel more powerful than the initial launch because your momentum in one direction is completely reversed to the opposite direction in mere seconds. So wouldn't the first launch of 74 MPH and the second launch of 101MPH feel more like 175 when combined? And so too wouldn't the second launch of 101MPH and the third launch of 120 MPH feel more like a 221 MPH launch given the fast turnaround?
    Mr. Freeze always felt intense and this is that on steroids'.

    Bro just stop you still haven't rode the ride...Your completely out of line! The 1st launch is 74mph which is faster then Mavericks launch! You go over 220ft. On the top hat for the roll back! THATS HIGHER THAN PANTHEONS ROLLBACK!!! 😂😂 Then you go over 365ft on the spike...yiur about 55ft short of the top FOR SAFETY!!! That is an engineering safety design!!! If we went up to 420ft the spine would need to be about 480ft. SMH I thought you were smarter than this im honestly a bit disappointed i had a lot of respect for you and your ideas even when mine were different, but i think your emotions brought out an ugly side of you because you lived the original Dragster so much! It happens to the best of us, no worries...But there's no coming back from what you said in that video other than "I'm sorry I made a fool of myself and I was completely wrong" 💯💯💯 most people who have rode it especially enthusiasts have already said it's better than the original Dragster.
