I have another candidate for you to consider...Alice Fredenham's cover of 'Someone to Watch Over Me' (My favorite - by far) ua-cam.com/video/t0U_GNcjqxM/v-deo.html
BEAUTIFUL!!!!!! Her face, her body, her gown, her acting, her song, oh, and of course......her voice. PERFECT!!! I can watch & listen tho this over & over again the whole day... Let's make it everyday.
This is the best rendition of a song I've loved for many years. Lea Salonga's voice is perfection and her delivery impecible. I definitely am going to start collecting whatever albums she has available. I suspect she will do justice to any song she sings.
Thousands. There simply aren't enough hit songs, for all the wonderful singers out there. Unless they can write their own hits, they're at the mercy of the recording industry to get them good songs to sing, or writers willing to give them their songs. Unfortunately, the best songs often go to already established famous singers. Otherwise, most are reduced to being singers in cover bands or doing weddings.
maybe its the actress in her that found the perfect temper for this song - plus she has a perfect voice for this song - and - oh yes - she's gorgeous to look at
This is a pretty little ballad. Heard Linda Rondstat, Barbara Striesand and now Lea sing this song. Each singer's voice is of course is unique, but it is the interpretation of the notes and lyrics that make this performance special. Lea does this song in a more in a more softer, gentle interpretative way. Its really hard to compare styles, but I like listening to all three.
Bravo! I really like it, especially the first part of the song. This is the perfect song you want to hear everytime you enter a coffee shop. so jazzy. 👏🏻
Lea can belt out the full range of notes. The first part of this rendition was originally done by Ella Fritzegerald, but Lea jazz it up a bit more in the end. Simply amazing!!!! Bravo!!!
i really really love how she 'speaks' through her eyes an expression.. she's like a teenager telling something secret (the lyrics) to a close friend.. love it!! ^_^ (plus, i love this song :p)
from Jose' "Timo" Sepulveda........had never even heard of this extraordinary vocalist........she handles this great Gershwin classic with velvet gloves........allowed herself perhaps a little too much license with the ending.......too much in the way of melismas, but what a SMO-O-O-T-H-H performance......
Apples and oranges, Karen. As much as I like Ella, she does Jazz better than anyone, but we all have our preferences and ever since I saw "Mr. Hollands Opus, I knew, for me, she was the right one....
jayseah32 made a comparison between Sinatra and Salonga, first their different genders, secondly, this was written for a female voice and to favor one from to the is like comparing a Corvette to a Ferrari, they're excellent in their own distinct genre.
Beautiful performance...does anyone else hear any tension between the singer and guitar player over the tempo and phrasing? Not necessarily a bad thing...
@dorotheainmiddle Other than her flawless singing, you're right, this sucks. As for karma, I've been told I have lots of good karma. Emotional? Nah, not me. On the other hand, it must suck to be you.
beautiful voice. but the song is very slow because she sings it freely. Almost after every note she can breathe. But freely does not mean very slow. But maybe the guitarplayer can't play any faster. The song says it. Won't you tell her please to put on some speed. haha.
Lol! I think the tempo is perfect; true, most singers take a faster tempo, but this version sounds like she's just dreaming about her someone, and it's gorgeous.
Her acting is over the top. She goes through 20 different facial expressions for one line. She's interpreting each fragment of a sentence individually, instead of maintaining a coherent emotional state.
I have heard nearly every rendition on YT of this wonderful song and Ms. Salonga definitely is numero uno.
Here's a cover of 'Someone to Watch Over Me' which you may have missed by Alice Fredenham..

It only took me about 5 billion tries to find the right vocal that I felt was appropriate for this beautiful song. Glad I found this one!

Donna Summer did a great job also!
The guitarist is excellent and a great complement to the beautiful singing.
BEAUTIFUL!!!!!! Her face, her body, her gown, her acting, her song, oh, and of course......her voice. PERFECT!!! I can watch & listen tho this over & over again the whole day... Let's make it everyday.
she's superb!!! well modulated voice, clear diction and heartfelt vocal expression..
The guitar is absolutely brilliant, too.
the guitarist is Cesar Aguas arguably the best session guitarist in the Philippines
Yes indeed one of the best versions of a great song.
Best version i ever heard....Miss this kind of singing from you Leah!
PERFECTION! I HATE it when singers belt this song out or "over-sing it"-- she adds the PERFECT amount of emotion to it!
Soulful!
I love her softer and gentler presentation. Her vs Ella is kind of like Dolly vs Whitney on I will always Love You.
Love this delicate delivery!🎤
Elegant and simple. Beautiful rendition.
This is the best rendition of a song I've loved for many years. Lea Salonga's voice is perfection and her delivery impecible. I definitely am going to start collecting whatever albums she has available. I suspect she will do justice to any song she sings.
That guitar arrangement 😍
Lea is awesome as always!
This is the first time I have heard her---- wonderful singer
Bravo, beautiful voice, and guitar. A pleasure to listen to.
Encountering Lea Salonga here for the first time makes me wonder how many other terrific artists are out there, unknown to me...
Edwin Svigals she's one of our most cherished gems here in the Philippines... thanks for your appreciation of this one great artist...

Absolutely nice and the guitar is so good
One of the best renditions I have enjoyed...
maybe its the actress in her that found the perfect temper for this song - plus she has a perfect voice for this song - and - oh yes - she's gorgeous to look at
Just beautiful, beautiful singing. Thank you Lea and for this video.
This lady knows that perfection is doing this song with minimal backing.
The original is mostly a capella

WOW!!!!!! 'nuff said.
Flawless perfection
As good as it gets...!
Very lovely❤️
magical voice.
Thanks for sharing.
She does an awesome job with this beautifully classic song, but another person that can sing it is Ella Fitzgerald!
The Blossom Dearie and Jean Louisa Kelly versions are also spectacular and worth checking out 😊
Yes, and Ms Ella sang this like it was their own like noby else
perfect!
A whole new world of singing
Absolutely gorgeous.
My favorite treatment of this luscious song. Many thanks.

i fell in love..
I’m wandering here because of Lucifer show S5✨ lovely song! Excellent performance my idol❤️
Très beau.sophie.pianiste de jazz et chanteuse de jazz
from Jose' "Timo" Sepulveda........had never even heard of this extraordinary vocalist........she handles this great Gershwin classic with velvet gloves........allowed herself perhaps a little too much license with the ending.......too much in the way of melismas, but what a SMO-O-O-T-H-H performance......
She’s my fairy godmother
Love Lea! I saw her in Les Miserables. That said, This song belongs to Jean Louisa Kelly! Lea does a great version, but Ms Kelly owns it!
Apples and oranges, Karen. As much as I like Ella, she does Jazz better than anyone, but we all have our preferences and ever since I saw "Mr. Hollands Opus, I knew, for me, she was the right one....
wowowowow!
Sorry !!!!! Forgot to mention the sensitivity of the guitarist. Flawless.🇯🇲👍🏾🇯🇲
shes so maarte this time ah,,so cute hahaha yung mga kimi styles niya... i love that..
jayseah32 made a comparison between Sinatra and Salonga, first their different genders, secondly, this was written for a female voice and to favor one from to the is like comparing a Corvette to a Ferrari, they're excellent in their own distinct genre.
so ! those 37 persons who dislikes , I bet they cannot even sing like lea . Jelous, envy, or just racist.
Beautiful performance...does anyone else hear any tension between the singer and guitar player over the tempo and phrasing? Not necessarily a bad thing...
...that someone could be Dream Boat Billie or just Steamboat Willy; anyway this is my favorite song so sweetly sung!
Actress/singer

I love her version but I listen more to Magali Datzira's cover of this song.
In what key is this song sung?
What key is this in?

Well I also like Julie Andrews version ☺
