Hi again, this question isn't related to your video but I think you're the perpect person to ask: When a job listing requires someone with a knowledge of engraving and printing processes. What did they mean by that? Where can I find the information to learn? I'm getting into textile design field but having hard time understanding the technical side of this field. Thank you in advance.
Hi TJ, It's kind of unusual they ask for engraving process experience. I think, the most important think about print process you have to know is that your artwork is divided by colors and each color is engraved and prints separately by roller. You can refresh this process in memory by watching my Chapter 1. HOW TO DO STRAIGHT REPEAT IN PHOTOSHOP. I can suppose that company asking for detailed experience may need a person who does strike-off approval as well as textile design (usually the company have a special person for that). It means you create your artwork and send to the factory. Factory engrave rollers and make a small swatch (about 10"X10", they call it strike-off) to avoid wasting fabric. Than they send swatch to you and you have to approve it: make sure it reflects accurately your artwork. Sometimes it doesn't, so you have to give them advise how to change the engraving or colors to improve the product before they print the entire yardage. You can search "Strike-off approval" on Google, it will help a lot. I'm not sure where you can gain engraving experience, because most of print factories are located oversees, but try to search UA-cam "Engraving On Textile Fabric" and "textile roller engraving". I think, watching that kind of videos would be totally enough for the interview preparation. Good luck!
Hi, thank you so much for your detailed answer! They want someone with this knowledge, not experience. And I think it's the knowledge of the printing process they want because I've seen lots of listing requiring that. I watched all of your videos, which helped me a lot. I really appreciate that. I wonder if you offer tutor sections and what your rate is.
Thank you TJ, I'm glad my videos help you. Unfortunately, I don't offer tutoring now, but if I decide to start that section, I'll definitely notify my subscribers
