I was wondering when she talked about it comparing it to the others "girl what are you on about, it's so perfectly non streaky". That's one of my biggest pet peeves with acrylic paints, the lumpy uneven streaky some parts being translucent and other parts being opaque inconsistency. Besides, i'm glad the folk art was the one paint that was different than the rest in those regards because it's one of the few options i have when it comes to painting polymer clay because other paints they said tends to never dry perfectly on polymer clay. @@EmmaSalisbury-wf6dihow would you go about getting an opaque and even background with ultramarine paint? It has taken me such a long time to find a really simple vid just comparing paint - shade to shade, brand to brand like this. I needed this to help me decide what to get since I am shopping online. Really excellent and incredibly helpful! Thank you!
I’m guessing that folk art blue used a lot of opacifier or titanium white to give it that one-coat coverage. Hobby paints for plastic miniatures are usually formulated in a similar way. Ultramarine is one of the few pigments that increases in saturation when mixed with white so it slightly benefits from this approach.
@Nicholas Caldwell I always feel like when I have the craft paints in there it's like cheating. Hello Rachelle Byers Art. I am going to try Winsor and Newton galaria acrylic paints. Liquitex acrylic basics paints are fantastic and i loved painting whit them but they are super expensive and i am still learning. I looked for a cheaper but same quality brand and Winsor and Newton came close to liquitex basics in my opinion and is cheaper. I love that you compare the diffrent acrylic painting brands whit eatch other. Keep on doing it please👋🏾👍🏾🖐🏾😁😊
I was feeling iffy about the folkart but this video helped me make up my mind, ill get it. I need the paint to be matte finish and water based because any other finish or base would react with polymer clay and never fully dry, but some pictures on the internet bugged me because i hate when paint is applied looking streaky, like some areas are translucent and other parts are more opaque. I'm used to the liqutex brand but i wanted to use something else since i think my liquitex wasn't the greatest for my polymer clay works. As soon as i saw the folkart look one consistent streak i was already sold. When it comes to polymer clay i don't have much acrylic paint options but based on what i saw this is it for me. I also like that it's not that thick right out of the bottle, i also hate when they're too thick because it makes the projects look too lumpy. Besides, i don't mind that it's not as deep a blue next to the others, i can always find a way to richen it, besides how often will i need to make anything that blue? I'm looking to detail sculptures not painting the whole thing in thick paint.
Thank you for this video. It's interesting to me how similar the golden and Liquitex Professional seemed to perform. That is nice to know. I also enjoy to cap on Liquitex professional tubes better compared to Golden.

Final entry. I finally reached Grumbacher Tech Dept. and talked at length about their paint. They confirmed they are using a newer formula that is only comprised of Hues in their acrylics. So no more single pigments like what I was using and no more cadmium paints. I was very disappointed of course since their paint is more costly then every other competitive paint. So I guess my budget paint will have to be liquitex basic from now on :( Nothing wrong with that of course but the higher pigment of the Grumbacher was an advantage. But now just a couple more layers and half the price of liquitex makes it a sweet deal. Fare thee well and have a nice day :)

I actually do enjoy experimenting this way. It's definitely been eye opening on a a few of the brands that I would've thought would perform better than they have over the course of my testing. Thanks so much for watching @Jo Jojo
I am going for the liquitex basics acrylic paint. I worked whit liquitex basics before and i fall in love whit them. Good rewiew, you actualy do the best paint rewiew i have Seen on youtube Not surprise golden is one of the very best acrylic you Can find, when you test golden all other are behind most of the time
@@RachelleByersArt some compare paint that not use the same pigment and Say the one is better, but it's not fair in your test you compare mostly pb29 and color that have the same Shade of pb29, the covering test is not bad, i think there lot improvement for making better test, but it is very instructive i try to find how i Can exactly pick the same amount of color for compare paint, not find a solution yet, i have some Idea to make paint brand rewiew to, speak about class of pigments : quinacridone, phtalocyanine, pyrole, cadmium ect... I think The craft paint use opacifier, and add phtalocyanine blue pb15, to boost the color this class of pigments have very high tinting power more than pb29
Thank you. I had done the black circle test on other paint brand comparison videos that were a lot lighter so it made more sense but when I was creating this video I wasn’t sure how I wanted to address that since this is a much darker color (than the yellow and the red I had done previously) ended up deciding to do it still to see what happened 🤷🏻♀️
@@RachelleByersArt the black circle is good with this pigment to, but it work best with light color, Trying other type of pigments will be grood, i use more than 30 monopigment paint, mostly golden
I would encourage you to try out Nova Color Paints. Not only is the price competitive, it is 100% made in USA, it is high end professional paint, and the pigment load is higher than paints I have tried at 3X the price. The only downside, but helps with the price, it is only available directly from the manufacturer.
@RachelleByersArt they are having a close out seventy five percent off right now on art things as they are not going to carry winsor and newton or grumbacher. The sales been going on now a month so call first and ask if any is left
Most likely to cover the costs of shipping, import and handling. Sometimes you pay more for shipping+import than the actual product itself, which is a pain indeed. Edit: plus, if it's in physical stores, most likely they will raise the price a bit too so they can profit and pay worker salary from them too (I work as a cashier, that's basically how it works with imported goods. For US people it's gonna be the same when buying our EU products)
@MeanLittleDutchGirl I truly feel your pain! There are products I really want to try that are easily triple the price here because they are a EU product.
It seems you refuse to admit folk art won when it came to coverage of the black and details. Why is that? I know it wasn't as dark as you were wanting. However, I would add a tiny bit of black to darken it the desired color.
The coverage of the FolkArt is amazing. It covered better than all the others imo

I actually do enjoy experimenting this way. It's definitely been eye opening on a a few of the brands that I would've thought would perform better than they have over the course of my testing. Thanks so much for watching @Jo Jojo
Very interesting video! Could someone tell me what PB stands for???
I believe it stands for Pigment Blue
@@RachelleByersArt Ohhhh thank you very much!!!
@@cristymercader3422 you’re welcome!
I am going for the liquitex basics acrylic paint. I worked whit liquitex basics before and i fall in love whit them. I am now testing arteza acrylic paint and i can tell you i am going back to liquitex basics acrylic paint. They are better than arteza and they don,t have a plastic finish whitch arteza paint has.
May I ask which Arteza acrylic paints you tried out? I see they have a few different types and I've been curious about their performance
Hello Rachelle Byers Art. I have the acrylic 60 paint set
Very useful video for beginner keep sharing your knowledge with us stay connected 👍
Thank you!
The folk art one looks like it has a little white in it hence it covered your little image more than the others
Yeah that’s the downside of craft paint, not knowing what all is adding in there for additional colors
Thank you for trying the palette knife with each paint. Also, did you happen to notice the lightfast rating
Thanks @lorrane as far as the lightfast rating I will look that up and get back to you. Are you wanting to know for are particular one or for all of them?
Good rewiew, you actualy do the best paint rewiew i have Seen on youtube
Not surprise golden is one of the very best acrylic you Can find, when you test golden all other are behind most of the time
Wow, thank you! I really appreciate that!
@@RachelleByersArt
some compare paint that not use the same pigment and Say the one is better, but it's not fair in your test you compare mostly pb29 and color that have the same Shade of pb29, the covering test is not bad, i think there lot improvement for making better test, but it is very instructive
i try to find how i Can exactly pick the same amount of color for compare paint, not find a solution yet, i have some Idea to make paint brand rewiew to,
speak about class of pigments : quinacridone, phtalocyanine, pyrole, cadmium ect...
Thank you for the recommendation, I will definitely have to try Nova @James Simms
Folk art is a craft paint as opposed to an arti artists paint
That is correct
Thanks a lot for your hard work in making this video!
Thank you, I really appreciate that! There’s a lot of time and planning that go into these comparison videos.
Isn't the brush contaminated
The folk art probably has an opacifier like titanium white in it
Agreed
I am 11 days old. I need best paint. I bought hobby lobby brand and wn galeria student. I need/want better
Did you get the masters touch through hobby lobby?
@@RachelleByersArt yes I did on the frequent forty percent sales. You have to look at every brush and cherry pick.
@RachelleByersArt they are having a close out seventy five percent off right now on art things as they are not going to carry winsor and newton or grumbacher. The sales been going on now a month so call first and ask if any is left
Also why is Folkart 10 euro here when it’s barely a dollar over there ! 🥺🥺🥺
I agree @TheWhiteWolf there are products I want to try that are EU products that cost me easily triple what they "should" cost
I’m team folk art by a long shot. The rest just don’t impress at all
I think it depends on what your painting intentions are
Its so cute to here americans say Dutch things 😂 the g just always sounds so wrong 😂😂
Thanks @MeanLittleDutchGirl for calling me cute ;) sorry to have mispronounced it.
