In the combat, if the insulted person won, the other would be declared even more dishonourable. If the insulted lost, his family would be owed half a weregild for the loss. Other forms of profit could be woven into it, such as the winner keeping the loser's entire possessions. The song talks just about that, being very careful who one challenges or offends, because that person might just be your end.

Including cursed swords, Berserkers and fighting over girls! The Holmgang at Samsö between the Hird captain of the Swedish King Hjalmar and the Berserker Angantyr.

Holmgång is viewed in sweidsh culture as a brutal all or nothing meele to the death and a combat knife would be the most fitting weapon for such a battle in modern times.
