    You guys often talk about the “Adaptation.” Can you please explain what that is and what one needs to do exactly?

      I knows it’s 2 years late . But your body adapts and learns from your cardio exercises. So the body lowers / adjusts your caloric burn rate. If you burn 1000 from let’s just say 4 hours from cardio for a period of time your body Will lower that burn rate. So you’ll have to do 5 hours to get the same amount of calories burned . Because the body adapts

    I have heard that you don't adapt to exercise. You become better at it which means that in an hour you can burn a lot more calories. And I don't believe that burning 400 calories daily through cardio should be dismissed like you said. It definitely helps maintaining a lean physique. Regarding the Afterburn, the studies do seem to show that it's negligible and that HIT cardio doesn't have a higher one than LISS

      Yes. For example, if I start running and become fitter. I can run further and faster in one hour than previously, meaning ive burnt more calories

      @@joebloggs6922 exactly. And it's quite relevant in becoming lean. I understand what they mean about building the metabolism and resistance training being about muscle but cardio it's an excellent tool for fat loss

    Definitely, losing body fat is mainly a matter of nutrition. Body recomposition is enhanced with resistance training, naturally, but the old adage that you can outrun/out-train a bad diet is indeed true. You can recover the calories you burned with a solid 5-mile run in one single Starbucks if you choose the decadent ones. Now you will still get health benefits (parts of the adaptation, which comprises more than athletic performance) from the run, but the energy side of things is mainly a matter of nutrition. I found H. Pontzer's arguments on the constrained energy model very compelling. His book "Burn" is very interesting, and I loved how he tied it all up with human history and our current state with his idea of "Homo energeticus". Quite a good read!

      Yep. Two different pathways entirely. 12oz of Coke has what, almost 150calories? That’s a mile and a half run for most people. And that’s 1 can. You see people drinking 2 liters of that shit a day. No way you can outrun that before insulin does its thing. But what running does do is make your heart and lungs stronger in addition to skel muscle benefits. Need both

    Yes, our bodies adapt, so we must make the HIIT workout harder, just like resisting training. We can not squat with the same amount of weight for years, except the result of muscle building. The same thing with HIIT training; we have to overload the workout once our bodies adapt to that.

    Insightful ! Thanks. I have a question, If EPOC isn’t that great, what actually increases the resting metabolism, is it just the weight training or only due to muscle built by weight training?

    • @jordang8317
      @jordang8317 Рік тому +2

      I’m wondering the same. Recent research has shown that each additional pound of muscle only burns an additional 6 calories per day (at rest). Apparently you can build about 1 pound of muscle per month with optimal training and nutrition. Over the course of 3 months, that would be an extra 18 calories per day. Which is like 2 sticks of gum.

      @@jordang8317 That is interesting. Then why do they always tout increasing muscle strength to dramatically increase your total allotted calories for maintenance? If each pound of muscle added only burns an extra 6 calories/day, that is not much...

    • @jordang8317
      @jordang8317 5 місяців тому

      @@BollywoodMediaOnline not sure, I was wondering the same. Unfortunately I’m not super well versed in exercise/sorts science and I don’t remember where I saw that research about 6 additional calories per pound of muscle.
      Since the extra 6 calories is how much it burns at rest, maybe it has to do with how much additional energy is burned during exertion? Maybe it’s significantly higher?

    Just a question not a rebuttal: isnt epoc a good gauge for other physiology happening in the body? For instance it determines how intense your hiit workout is hence whether your body is is stimulating the secretion of hgh and testosterone?

    Currently a sales associate at Orangetheory. They still ask “what does EPOC stand for” as a question while we’re in training. It’s even more of a shame because the heart rate monitors over exaggerate calories burned anyways. So people are believing they’re “supercharging their metabolism”

    If you do a circuits with three muscle groups 20 reps X 8 to 12 sets in 45 min to 90 minutes you will deplate the glycogen in your muscle AND bread by your mouth.
