Seems like it always takes a little hammering, grinding and maybe welding to do even a "bolt in" swap. You'd think if it had a 383 put in it already a 440 would just bolt in. Never fails. Low compression ain't really a bad thing, especially if you're going to drive it much. Yeah, you loose a bit of efficiency, but premium gas costs about a buck a gallon more too. I'll probably regret building the 318 for my 68 D200 with a little over 9.7 compression when it's all done. Spent a lot of time porting a set of 315 heads upgraded with 1.60-1.88 valves for it, but who knows, might be swapping on some 360 heads later to drop compression. We'll see what happens.
I feel like when that 440 fired up and you set the idle speed, you sat on the fender and you were holding back a big smile. I know there was a big one on my face.
Yip, no kik-down linkage, number 1 way to burn-up good 727. i sure have seen a lot of people who just don't/refuse to understand that concept, even after I explain it to them. Lol!
Any time you do work on your own car/truck and it's successful, Richard Petty would be proud. Hope it works out for the best, curious about what was wrong with the 383, that's just about as bullet proof engine as ever built. 👍👍🇺🇸🇺🇸
looks great and sounds healthy Tim. One thing I must say is, the chain and the radical angle of it puts tremendous strain on the bolts and the chain itself. Anything less than a 45 degree angle starts putting much more tension on the rigging. I get you're trying not to have to pull the hood. In my line of former work I've seen several failures and one injury because of this situ. Keep up the good work!
Nice! Even a stock 440 will make the ol' girl scat. It sounds good and I like the oil pressure. 75# is a good number. That old transmission shot craps because of the lack of kickdown. I have seen that before.
Curious why you’re running with the torquer single plane intake with all the other stock components? Sounds good. Did the previous owner use a big block k member?
I put the torker on just because I had it. I know, a single plain doesn't always play nice with a small cam/low compression engine. As for the K frame, not sure, but I'd bet they used the small block K frame
I had a 1975 plymouth fury sport 2 door. I replaced the 400 with a 440. Kept it low compression and added nitrous oxide kit. Was a fun car. Added 295 mags looked not bad.
I have a fresh rebuilt 66 383 and it has flat top pistons with a new purple stripe cam and 346 fresh rebuilt heads and it also came with headers and a single plane edelbrock torquer intake and it’s a 2 barrel block so it’s not high performance so could you recommend if I should run it like it is or buy a set of KB400 dome pistons and turn it into a HP 383?? Im not going to race it but I do enjoy getting pulled back in the seat now and then.
run it like it is. ive got a stock compression 1973 2bbl 400 mopar with a voodoo cam, headers, and a action plus dual plane 4bbl intake. bowl ported motorhome heads. runs insanely hard.
That was a good budget rescue on this car. That 440 has to be better than the 400 they offered in the Cordobas. The police cars with 440s were low compression and they did pretty good
I have a buddy who wants to trade me a 77 New-Yorker 440 4bbl dual exhaust. I know it's a gaz guzzler, i have a 66 starchief executive 389ci 4bbl that makes 16 mpg when i drive it like a egg under my foot with little changes here and there. Air conditionner delete (+10%) so they say. What is the best MPG i could acheive with a small budget. Google says between 10-+5? Beside taking few extra weight off and good engine setting. What else do you suggest? I know it still gonna stay a 440! Maybe ill swap the engine with my dodge 23' motorhome wich have a 1971 318-3 swap during it's life, wich does 15-16mgp at 55mph.
hello nice video , i have a 1978 318 and i did a cylinder pressure test and all 8 cylindres are at 125 psi ....is that a normal number , the reason why i ask is because i saw a friend of mine do a pressure test on his 440 which was just rebuilt and his engine had 190 psi
125 across all 8 on a 318 would be considered "normal". Your friends 440 may have closed chamber heads, high compression pistons among other things that would give him more cranking psi
I want to see a postmortem on the 383 and the inside of the 727 pan....the rest is just too easy to do swapping engines in a late b body is just fun to me.... Now dropping a transmission in an 88 cougar to fix a convertor seal leak now that's a nightmare....and coming up on my channel...but not many will even care much or learn anything.
You have the most underrated car channel. 440 in time for burnouts!
If anyone doesn't know, this guy has one of the coolest wagons on youtube! Thanks man!! Wagon 👍
Sounds like it's running good. That's a fantastic viewer that helped you out with the kick down linkage.
Thanks! Yes, very generous of him!
Awesome! Glad you got it in there! Looks great! Can't wait to see the performance!👍
Thanks my friend!!
I always wanted a Magnum. Loved the black Car Craft Magnum build. A nice cruiser 440 should be SWEET. 🦶🏾
Thanks, and see ya soon !!
110% gooder!! Tech tip, do not splash wife with antifreeze!! I felt a disturbance in the Force, close call. Take care!
😁 Love it ^^
Great job Tim, I think we all had a smile when it fired up 👍🏻
Thank You!
Looks great, Tim! I love the factory look!
Thanks!
Great Job 💪🔧. its always annoying to run into snags when getting a vehicles back up and running then a wave of stress is gone once fixed .
Yeah, always has to be a little hic-up here and there !!! Thanks!

I think your 318 will be just fine!!!
I feel like when that 440 fired up and you set the idle speed, you sat on the fender and you were holding back a big smile. I know there was a big one on my face.
I really enjoy watching your videos keep em going please.
You betcha!!!
Thanks!
That 440 looks and sounds great! Nice job! That's some fine looking OE 3 piece kickdown linkage and return springs! 👍
Hey, my man! Thanks Again !!!!
Good job brother! Always loved the Magnum, you should bring it to cruise night in Freeport next year 👍
Thanks man !!!
Doesn't sound like a motorhome. Sounds more like a Symphony!
😂
Very nice Tim.
That engine looks so nice in there.
All of you hard work is going to pay off.
Have a great day.👍👍💯
Thanks Ed, I appreciate it!
Tim, you lucky dawg, i love those old magnums!
Pretty cool cars !
Yip, no kik-down linkage, number 1 way to burn-up good 727. i sure have seen a lot of people who just don't/refuse to understand that concept, even after I explain it to them. Lol!
Right on !!
That 440 is going to be a torque monster, just what that sled needs. Now you have a nice RB core you can dump hundreds of dollars into.
Yes, Yes ......
Sounds good! Now paint it Petty Blue and put 43 on the door!
I'm tempted for sure! Thanks Cley!

I agree with everything stated !! Thank you!
Great video
We appreciate it!!
Looking good tim, I'm waiting to watch it smoke that van now.
Ha !! We'll see .....
nice job on the 440 onsdall!
Thanks!
Looks good sittin in there nothin like hearin a swap start after all the work to put it in👍
You betcha !!
Awesome work Tim! Sounds great. The old girl ought to scoot real good now... 👍Oh yeah, the bolt extractors... Those things are the cat's meow!
Thanks man!

Thanks!! I installed the engine and tranny at the same time and forced the angle. Thanks again for the heads up!

Thanks TMM. !!!
440 will run
👍
Nice💪🏾💪🏾
Thanks 💯
Glad to see it running!
Thanks Stephen !!
Definitely better.
thank you !!
Very good move. Definitely worth all your time and effort. And expense.
Thanks!
🚒💯 excellent 👍
Thank you!

Why not the 383 pan?
Thanks for the question! 383 pan had been dinged for clearance also, so I thought to leave the 383 complete and use a new pan for the 440.
I had a 1975 plymouth fury sport 2 door. I replaced the 400 with a 440. Kept it low compression and added nitrous oxide kit. Was a fun car. Added 295 mags looked not bad.
Cool car!
Built on a budget, and the king would approve. Nice job, Tim!
Thanks Joe!

I say try it like it is and see how you like it !!
Now you need some rear gear ratio😁Those tanks came with 2.40 rear ratio. Smooth driving cars, though. Always good to see your work, Tim👍
They are truly a boat that floats. Thanks!
Again. But curious.
What about th driveshaft?
Sure one you have was custom cut.
B enj & B727 w ? Rear
& U-joints?
727's are the same length, be it big block or small block, B or RB, so the drive shaft is ok. Thanks!
That was a good budget rescue on this car. That 440 has to be better than the 400 they offered in the Cordobas. The police cars with 440s were low compression and they did pretty good
thanks!!
This is going to cruise at 80mph all day long.
Thanks !!
Yay!
Yippee!

That did best on gas with a Thermoquad. 17 mpg on the highway is very common if tuned right. Around town they will suffer due to weight of the vehicle
👍🏻
👍

the 383 has me curious as well, and we'll tare it down eventually and figure it out. Thanks !!
He said broomstick Handel lmao
about the size of the cam these came with 😄
How much do you want for the 383 you pulled out
not a lot if a guy was standing in my drive way with cash ! 😅
Just build it.
Work w what you got.
- then treat it like -*
Ok. You hate it. !
Beat it like yer Mum’s car.
Brb. Gotta take my meds. …
Thanks man!
Stuff electric fuel ⛽️ pumps good move . She sounds nice . 👍🏻💯🇦🇺⛽️.
Thanks!!
I wish i Could afford a BB engine
Got this 440 for 400 bucks from a RV. Of course, there is more into it now. Thanks for watching!
Tear into the 383 when you have time and show us how mucked up it is?
That is in the plan for sure !!

Close, North Dakota!
