- Deerstalker Al Gabriel has made it his mission to introduce as many women to deer stalking as he can. So far he thinks he's taken 150 different women out hunting. He believes that for shooting sports to survive and thrive the UK shooting community needs to reflect society, and right now we are nowhere near it. In his latest outing for a Northumberland roebuck (what he calls a true English classic) he is guiding novice stalker Chloe Forbes. Chloe wants to feel confident enough to manage her own piece of ground supplying good quality wild meat for her family and friends. Chloe has been shooting shotguns for years, so a rifle is a new challenge.
Meanwhile, James Marchington brings you the action from the English Open Sporting Championship 2023 at Eriswell Lodge. And Deborah Hadfield finds out how ‘rewilding’ is wrecking the Welsh countryside.

Rewilding and carbon credits biggest con job ever
Hi Charlie and team, thanks for this week's episode. The buying up of land isn't restricted to Wales, Scotland, too is very heavily impacted by these carbon credit trophy hunters, making it impossible for locals or anyone wanting to buy into farming. Which makes any of the locally devolved government's offerings of "We want to protect and grow our local communities" ring rather hollow.
For ticks I spray my trousers and any exposed skin with Jungle Formula. It seems to work for me. I do this whether I am stalking, dog training or buggering about on the shoot at this time of year. I then check myself when I get home to make sure that I haven't brought home any unwanted hitchhikers. Our dogs are all on Advantix this year having been on Bravetco for a couple of years. Both work very well.

I wasn't aware that tics were a big problem outside of the US. My wife contracted Lyme 7 years ago in North Georgia mountains while we were camping. It's been hell ever since. And since we have discovered that this has been spreading at an alarming rate.
Everyone needs to take tics extremely seriously . Lyme disease is horrible and the Healthcare system hasn't caught up, at least not here in the USA.
I appreciate the information and love to see hunting still being passed down to the next generations.
No one, anywhere, at any time, has ever "needed" more women in hunting. Should they hunt if they want to? Of course! Should there be programs which encourage women, and children, and older people, to get out and hunt? Definitely! More people should hunt, full stop. But to say that a certain demographic is "needed" in a field of endeavor has far too much connotation of idealogical agenda

The shooting and rebuilding community deal in absolutes there has to be a middle ground. Both ways dont work for both sides Shooting and wildlife suffer one way or the other.

Going a bit woke? Women are as good for the sport as men, however over 95% of stalkers and gamekeepers are men so by going out of the way to employ or get women into shooting is actually negatively affecting a large portion of the population which love the sport. As well as the skill pool is much smaller. 1000 women have a higher skill pool that 5 men and in this case its the other way around.
What is "woke"?
Woke is letting the stabbing culture from London come into rural areas and giving them guns.
