Pro-UTV you can drive faster and feel safer, ditch running at anything over 40 mph starts feeling a bit sketchy on my ATV, while my buddies passed me and were doing up to 65, in there UTV, no way I am doing that. Roll cage, don't need to explain that. You can drive while eating, drinking, smoking, or whatever you do, it's much easier/safer driving with one hand. Riding with passengers, much more ergonomic, especially if it's another dude. Pro-atv If I go throw deep water, a UTV has to put his feet in the water to accelerate. If I get stuck, I can get off and walk it out most of the time When riding on very steep and rugged areas, I can stand up and see what's over the hill I am climbing, UTV you need to get out to see. I can manipulate my weight distribution much more than a UTV. On very rough terrain I can stand up to soak allot of abuse up in my legs, UTV your back soaks it all up
Reasons for ATV with me are: No passengers to be responsible for. Power to weight ratio. Most MN trails are ATV friendly. More maneuverable. More space in the garage. Price point.
Dan Lux I do that for multiple reasons to see if a hill or something is a straight down drop so I don’t look like and idiot also I use it I going through mud
Haha, yea that's fair. It's not common though! ATV cup holders are only recently starting to be a thing, and usually only on the higher end models. But I you do bring up a very valid point.
I just like getting out in the woods. To me the difference is do you want to drive or ride:-) I prefer to ride right now. Body English, technical trails. I'm in my sixties and I can say maybe in the future, but for now I would rather ride.
Thanks for the input, Terry. I agree, a lot of it really comes down to which one personally feels best for the individual. I prefer to ride as well. But I would be lying if I said I didn't still enjoy riding a side by side a good amount as well.
A side by side is a very different experience than riding an atv. On a sxs you can really put a ton of accessories, way more capability in terms of offroad and utility, bring passagers along, being protected from the elements, doors, more clerance etc.. the cons in my opinion is that you can really feel the weight in those high speed turns, not as manubreable compared to an atv (speaking for a sport utility sxs) also not compatible with small trails, you get a rubber belt as your main cvt drive for a 1500+ pound machine, and you need a trailer to transport it, the starting price.. there is the possibility to make it street legal in some states but I think 70 or 80% of the people may never have the energy or the time to buy the st. Legal kit, modify the vehicle, call the dmv, get inspection etc. I guess its all up to the consumer, different tastes, different opinons, different budgets, different needs 🤷♂️
I currently own a Kawasaki Brute Force 650 and wanted to see if I was missing out on something, so I test drove my 1st ever Side By Side today, a new Kawasaki KRX 1000, on the same rocky trails I've been riding my BF on for the last 16 years. It didn't take 30 seconds behind the wheel of the KRX to figure out that Side By Sides are not for me. I felt TOTALLY detached from the driving experience and isn't that why we ride off-road? Yes, the cabin was roomy and comfortable, but if I really want comfort, I can drive my A/C Jeep down the rocky trails.
Ok the price argument I somewhat disagree for me and my wife to get out on the trail and have fun we would need 2 4-wheelers for a comfortable experience but only 1 side by side
Great video guys, it’s simply about personal preferences, where you’re at in your life physically, where you’re at in experience, myself I have less than a year of experience with any kind of off-road vehicle, luckily still physically capable, I’m having way too much fun with that “ATV feeling” to think about sxs yet
I only own an atv currently and I’m way late to this video but on the side of the side x side and on the comfort side which was mentioned, using your feet to throttle versus your little thumb. And nowadays you can even carry multiple people on a sbs
The feeling of mud riding with an atv is so much better than with a side by side, you can feel the power and move your body to get out of the mud. Canam atvs are very confortable and you can also fit a big cooler, speakers and more stuff. In mexico both are street legal even without blinkers or mirrors. If you want to off road more confortable just take your Jeep or truck but you will have half the fun than with an atv.
As a passenger sxs's suck, I get motion sickness even in the front passenger seat, especially in the back of a 4 seat. Never had an issue on a two up atv.
It was hard to determine which one to buy . I went ahead and brought both of them. It works out. Best of both worlds It depending. ATV is for hanging out with friends, joy riding on your own, easy to move around Side by side : You can throw all your junk on the right, take friends with you , family with you. But it's not easy to storage, need a trailer , The best part of sxs is you can add a ton of accessories. Sxs is way better
AWESOME!!!! Chris, your vids are next level man, great job! I"M ALL ATV! Nothing like throwing your weight around and moving the machine... SXSs are the right choice for anyone who even occasionally want's to bring a friend along (lady friend, or really REALLY good buddy) LMAO!!!
Haha! I'm with you man. I love SXS's but at heart I'm licking an ATV. Thanks for the compliment brother, I really appreciate that! Now if only I can get like 30,000 people to agree with you 😆😆
Entire video in a nut shell. “Well you got me on that one” 😂😂😂. Hey from a rider who has both there isn’t a better feeling doing a power wheelie going 60+ on a 1k scrambler! But you can’t send a quad as hard as you can with a sxs. It’s more your riding still. Great video man!
Thanks for the compliment and input, Ben. I agree, it really does come down to your riding style and what's going to be the most comfortable and enjoyable to you as the individual. That's why it's great there are so many options to choose from.
There are pros and cons for each. I'd love to have one of each if I could justify it. I love the safety aspect of a SxS, and I like how narrow ATV's are in tight spaces. Sheldon mentioned speed for SxS but my old Polaris Sportsman 850 was faster than my Commander 1000 in acceleration and top speed. SxS is better when taking an other person. I really miss being able to stand up on an ATV in some instances too. Great video guys!
Great points man! I agree that there are definitely pros and cons of both. I really wish I would have thought of the standing aspect when arguing for ATVs! 😜
Driving a car on dirt roads or driving an awesome atv. Hp means jack shit. Hp/weight means everything. I can carry gas, and a small back pack for food and water on an atv. What more do you need on a trip? You can throw an atv around with your weight. Sxs are for old people or families.
Can-Am renegade and Polaris scramblers are going for $16,000 Plus. Out the door you're looking at probably 17,000. I'm all about reliability personally and most bang for my buck so I got a Yamaha yxz 1000r SS. Made by the Japanese no belt and a very reliable transmission and engine all for $21,000. Plus I can have a roof rack on top of the roll cage bring food gear extra fuel also can fit storage on the rear rack. In the colder months in upstate New York I can ride longer and stay drier. Plus with the side by side you can bring a friend because it's two-seater. If going out into the middle of nowhere and camping for a couple days is your thing then a side-by-side is what you want. But know this buying even two base model Polaris sportsman 850s is still more than one side by side.
I could've argued a lot of these. I'm on team ATV, I don't really like the way UTVs drive. The first one I'd like to argue is safety. ATV's are safer because you always have the option to bail. If an ATV is about to roll down a hill, just jump off of it on the uphill side and you'll be fine. In a UTV, you're stuck in it and if you don't have a full cab, a limb could stick out and get crushed, you can smash your head on the roof, if there's a big enough impact, then a roll cage could crush in. And also, if you sink a UTV, you're screwed. On an ATV, if the water is deeper than you expected, then you can either power out of it since they're lighter, or you can just hop off of it if it sinks. In a UTV, a seatbelt can jam, you might be stuck underwater, you could potentially drown in one of those things. Especially if it's a current and it gets tipped on it's side and you're stuck in it, it's very difficult to escape. I'm also gonna argue the comfort thing. UTVs are way more difficult to drive in rough terrain. They're heavier, they dart like stupid, you're getting tossed around, they're way more tippy, and it's a pedal throttle, so over flat ground you're constantly smashing the throttle which only makes it more rough. There are plenty of other things I could argue, but that's just off the top of my head.
Tell Kawasaki on those kRXs they need to put some sort of padding on the frame rails. There's sharp metal edge that cut my head wide open when it rolled. Blood baby everywhere ❣️
Atvs are less safe for those who don’t know how to ride them. Sxs have opened up opportunities to those who never rode dirt bikes or Atv. So for those folks a seatbelt and cage are needed to keep them safe.
Again sorry to disagree with Sheldon. The answer again, Polaris sportsman with both front and rear racks, optional lock and ride accessories, and one of those 50" wide hitch racks you can carry just as much as a SXS! The only exception would be if you were going solo for a couple of days and you're comparing a 4 seat SXS like a General or Commander to an ATV :-)
Yea there is no doubt it can be done. However I have to agree with him that it's not near as easy or as comfortable. He did mention as a disclaimer too that when guys do it they are bringing trailers. Which makes everything more complicated and less fun.
Great video! You two could do an update video to a more comparable debate. Sxs trail editions vs ATV. Sxs trails are only 50'' wide which negates most of the size controversy. Sxs can be used as an overpowered golf cart. A sxs trail can fit 2 people with a third bump seat for a small child. A con to that is that some people would rather drive their own. A sxs trail will take less space than 2-3 atvs and cost less than 2-3 comparable ATVs especially when including maintenance/repairs. Sxs trail editions are easy to transport but the larger ones are certainly not. If you only have to buy for yourself, then i'd think the dollar per fun value would go to an ATV.
2 different machines but atv is funer and you can feel a complety control, sxs is more for family trips is more powerfull but is a biger frame to move too
I have a atv polaris scabler 500 yes its not leagle to drive on the road but I live on dirt road so I can still ride on my dirt roads so the last reason side by side are better doesn't really efficient me
CWirtz 18 the rs1 is a sick machine I assume it’s kinda there for people that have no one to ride with which isn’t necessarily a bad thing it’s just riding isn’t for everyone
I recently moved to the country in Canada and see old timers driving ATV looking scooters on the main road so I'm wondering if I could get away with a real one.
While I’m here, what is with the sxs guys looking down their noses at ATV guys now? Most of them used to ride ATVs and had a blast doing it. Now they look at them like they are death traps.
Well, yes and no. There are 50" side by sides... And I agree they are awesome! However the other side of that is they are not very common. The 65" is by far the most common. In fact crazy enough, I think the 72" has more sales than the 50" options. Here in the Midwest, owning a 72" is basically worthless. There are no trails that allow them really. You have to go to a large park and those are not exactly all over.
@@NavigateOffroad Plus most are about or over 6 ft tall. Will not fit in my cargo trailer for my toys. Width wise ok.... height wise a no go. Even in the woods sometimes a little to high for tight trails. That is why I opted for a wheeler.
I agree that you can get 50" side by sides, but the points are not mute as it's still not the same when it comes to putting in a truck, storing, etc. As for cost, yes but you are now comparing entry level to mid level, therefore proving the point that one cost more because now you need to purchase an entry level side by side to afford it over a more advanced ATV. My two cents, not trying to come at you. Thanks for your input on the subject!
Weird.. No, it's not spelled weird. If you open up your favorite podcast app and type "SXS Dirt" into the search bar it should come up. If you can't find it, tag me on Facebook or Instagram so I can send you a direct like. Otherwise I think there is also one in the description below this video.
Totally disagree with the safety. We have to cross a fast 2 foot deep stream when we go fishing. Boulders on one side of it. If I tip over in a SXS me or my buddy are at risk of drowning for real. On the atv you can jump off
Sxs will lose in a traffic collision on the street. They aren’t designed safely wise to go up against a car or truck that weight double or triple. I thought sxs are safer? Maybe, but not on the street. Come on.
What do you mean? I believe he even mentioned trail models at one point. He may not have argued them at one point, but he definitely knows about them. He is very involved with atv/utv customization and has worked in the field for many years.
why ATV better.. Is "The Feeling of being "One with the Machine" like closer to a dirt bike yet 4 wheels!! The number of times I Stand Up! While riding atv.. And can whip it around.. Where as UTV is basically driving a fukn car or Truck.. just same as you do on a daily basis. 😮💨🥱🥱🥱
Tell Kawasaki on those kRXs they need to put some sort of padding on the frame rails. There's sharp metal edge that cut my head wide open when it rolled. Blood baby everywhere ❣️

I agree with your #1 reason Chris, as a "snowmobiler" sharing that same feeling( like a free bird), is why I chose my Sportsman 850SP over a RZR 900 !
The last one is why I love a atv more. I own both but a SxS just feels like I’m driving my car
You CAN drink your coffee or energy drink on the trail while driving an ATV, its called a 2017> Polaris 850 SP or 1000 XP ! They have a cup holder :-)
Preach!
Haha, yea that's fair. It's not common though! ATV cup holders are only recently starting to be a thing, and usually only on the higher end models. But I you do bring up a very valid point.

It does take some skill to ride the Atv. And it’s a lot more fun.
I feel as though "You got me there" is both of these guys' catchphrase

I own a Yamaha YFZ 450 and do some riding in the jungle... The feeling of riding is awesome, but seriously, wish i had a side by side too...
I have both just need to upgrade both.
Scott Hall that’s the reason I only have mine for 2 years always feel the need to upgrade lol

Love the video. I have both an atv and SxS. Some days I enjoy taking the old atv for a rip LOL
Fun video Chris. Ultimately I enjoy both. :-)
Thank you! I agree, both are great. I lean a little more towards the ATV side but ultimately I love both.
3:53 well Dirtbikes are more narrow then a atv XD
The Utv price outweighs the if it’s fully loaded with passengers. 4 atv’s could be more expensive than a 4 seater utv.
Thanks for the comparison
Atvs are less safe for those who don’t know how to ride them. Sxs have opened up opportunities to those who never rode dirt bikes or Atv. So for those folks a seatbelt and cage are needed to keep them safe.
This is an awesome video thanks keep them coming...

What do u do as a full time job
I’m equal my uncle has both sxs and four wheeler so idk so you could fit a sxs in the back of your truck depending on The size of it
Easy answer, both
The biggest reason why ATVs are better is because you have the ability to move your body weight around the machine. Huge advantage.
Consider the age of the rider as to which way the customer will go
ATV: FUN FACTOR... Banshee 350! Hahahaha! CLASSIC BEAST!
Is your atv wrapped or hydrodipped
2 different machines but atv is funer and you can feel a complety control, sxs is more for family trips is more powerfull but is a biger frame to move too
I have a atv polaris scabler 500 yes its not leagle to drive on the road but I live on dirt road so I can still ride on my dirt roads so the last reason side by side are better doesn't really efficient me
This conflict is why Polaris Ace and RS1 are made
CWirtz 18 the rs1 is a sick machine I assume it’s kinda there for people that have no one to ride with which isn’t necessarily a bad thing it’s just riding isn’t for everyone
Thank you for the tips sheldon i’m gone buy a utv crosscart
My wife tried to convince me to buy a UTV and I said hell no I'm not f****** old why would I want that damn thing maybe when I'm 50...
I recently moved to the country in Canada and see old timers driving ATV looking scooters on the main road so I'm wondering if I could get away with a real one.
Ride quality.
Suspension travel.
Electric power
Fuel capacity
Passenger comfort.

I like both but tbh atv aren’t better but they are funner

RZR and Can-Am both have a 50” so Chris’s first 4 points are moot.

I agree that you can get 50" side by sides, but the points are not mute as it's still not the same when it comes to putting in a truck, storing, etc.

sxs are good for people who pysically can't handle an atv anymore, or have zero skill, good for family's

Safety. Roll cage and seat belts especially in cases where two people are riding on one machine. End of debate.
With age - comes the cage!
Safety! You cant argue that one, SXS #1
can't stand up on a sxs.
Great point!!
Wish I would have thought of that one during the argument. Thanks for the input, Bobby.
The 6x6 tho
SxS are better if you want to take your small kids as a family together
Totally disagree with the safety. We have to cross a fast 2 foot deep stream when we go fishing. Boulders on one side of it. If I tip over in a SXS me or my buddy are at risk of drowning for real. On the atv you can jump off
It’s harder to tip a side by side
Wow he could of countered your bringing your wife with SxS you can bring the kids to.
😆 heck yea. We bring our kids all the time.
Resale is better and easier
SxS suck at everything but cargo. ATV can go everywhere a SxS can and more 1000cc CanAm will go faster, 500 Foreman will pull more.
Sxs will lose in a traffic collision on the street. They aren’t designed safely wise to go up against a car or truck that weight double or triple. I thought sxs are safer? Maybe, but not on the street. Come on.
They convincing 4 yrs olds
Bro this is the worst comparison ever. The first 5 minutes of giving up on each other’s arguments this is stupid.
Get roxor
1st :-)
Haha! Thanks for showing up so quick!
The sxs pro doesn't even recognize trail model sxs and this is your "expert"? Gtfo.
What do you mean? I believe he even mentioned trail models at one point. He may not have argued them at one point, but he definitely knows about them. He is very involved with atv/utv customization and has worked in the field for many years.
why ATV better..
Is "The Feeling of being
"One with the Machine" like closer to a dirt bike yet 4 wheels!!
The number of times I
Stand Up!
