Stephen Colbert took over as host of The Late Show on Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2015. Colbert is best known for his work as a television host, writer, actor, and producer, and best known for his charity work teaching English as a second language on Tunisian date farms. Prior to joining the CBS family -- and being officially adopted by network president Les Moonves -- Colbert helmed “The Colbert Report,” which aired nearly 1,500 episodes and required Stephen to wear nearly 1,500 different neckties. The program received two Peabody Awards, two Grammy Awards, and several unwelcome shoulder massages. One of the many reasons I respect Oliver is that when talking about bits he has done, he always says "we" because he knows many, many people work behind the scenes to make his show possible, and he never undersells them or puts himself above them.

If you take into account votes only of the two parties involved, in Australian 1990 Liberals won the popular vote against Labor by 0.39%. In Australia 1998 Labor had the popular vote against Liberals by 3.85%. In the 2016 US election Hilliary had the popular vote against Donald by 4.35%. Worth noting Australia has mandatory voting of it's citizens so more representative of it's citizens.

Peter Piper well Anglo Saxons settled in the southern portions of Scotland at the same time as they were settling in the land that would be called England. scots-English was evolving with its Celtic and Nordic influences as its own language variation at the same time as Middle English was developing in England. So we technically have equal right to say it how we wish. The Irish are a bit different since they were actually colonised like the US was.
The US was not 'colonised' in the same sense however The original settlers of the US were British settlers and continued being British citizens for the next 150 years until the US was founded. That is different from what happened in Ireland or India.

British English changed after the 1700s as a wave of fad accents spread across England because some people thought they sounded more refined with the fake accent, mostly based off of French. The "r" was pronounced with an alveolar tap at the front of the mouth rather than in the throat as English normally forms it, the "o" was pronounced like "oh", and the "c" was a hard "k" sound.
