    Thank you for the reminder, Tom!
    It starts with engagement with your dog. I think a lot of us tend to forget that.

    The human part of dog training is underrated. Thankfully Tom trains both the dog and the human.

    omg Tom. you're an absolute life saver you saved my dog's life , friday i was walking friend's of mine their dog (on the leash.) my dog was off leash just like your dog lakota, ups shows up my dog turns his head, this point im on my way back to my drive way and as my dog turns his head to ups im calling my dog followed by ah ah, come and my dog dog does imediate 180 to me and after that, i was in disbelief, Tom, of all the dog trainer's i've seen on youtube, you're the only one that saved my boy's life, thanks to you tom, not only is my boy a respectable ESA and Therapy Dog, but because of him there was a elderly woman 50's -60's that told me now i wanna get a dog. hearing her say that felt so rewarding, but over all because of of tom my boy is safely sleeping warmly in the house happy go lucky as can be

    Another great video. i would like to see more videos with small dogs. You mentioned that dogs need a job and I completely agree. EVERY dog needs a job- doesn't matter the size. Many small dogs owners just pick up the dog if it misbehaves. Usually these owners don't bother with training, which, in my opinion, is why so many small dogs are aggressive and bark at everything.

      I totally agree with this, I love seeing the videos with small dogs in them. I have one myself and he’s incredible! He loves to work, loves to train and is super active. Not all small dogs are aggressive or bark at everything. mine is reactive but we’ve worked a whole lot of that and he’s gotten 99% better, and that all other small dog owners need to do is work with their dogs!

    I remember from your Burleigh Videos one of the first things you taught/paid puppy B for was engagement. This video really highlights the importance of laying that foundation. I can't wait for the day I bring my puppy home! Been watching so many of your videos, I want to start her out right!

    I have only one question! With reactive dog, in the city street, do I keep walking with the tight leash past the other dog or do I hide behind cars? I feel.like both is a recipe for failure but I live in the city centre.

    Thank you for this great free content! Do you have suggestions for a dog who is overly friendly and therefore leash reactive to dogs but also more so to people? I feel like I don’t know how discourage her from liking those things but I also don’t want her to pull me to death and also some people (or dogs) don’t want to say hi.

  • @Crystal-An80

    Question.. Would the e-collar be best for thick necked dogs? My dog is some people and all dog reactive. He’s getting better but there are certain dogs that are crazy, which triggers his crazy. My dogs neck is thick. I’m currently using a herm sprenger neck tech that has zero effect on him. He doesn’t feel it so it makes corrections extremely difficult. He’s disengaged a lot and I struggle to get him focused on me

    @tomdavisofficial In your first few vids when you got Burleigh, you walk him outside of the hotel and travel. Vets everywhere are scaring the crap out of ppl myself included, That you cannot let your puppy out like this due to Vax status and catching diseases. However 8-16wks is the imprinting period for socialization to experience life. What are your thoughts on this? Was Burleigh already vaxed? I want to socialized my new puppy as much as possible, but i dont want him catching anything either. I hope you can touch on this, your thoughts and how you handled that. Big fan Thanks!

    How do you PAY a dog that has no interest in food?

    • @malul_dog-trainer
      @malul_dog-trainer 4 місяці тому +2

      Only feed with work. Not working for food so there is no food. After 2-4 days they will eat

    • @adventurousdoglover
      @adventurousdoglover 4 місяці тому +2

      Verbal or physical praise, play
      If your dog is not taking food, they could be stressed so you can slowly work on seeing what works

    • @DisforDogs1
      @DisforDogs1 4 місяці тому +3

      Mine isnt motivated by food at all, indoors and outdoors. Even after 3 days without eating, nope wont take it.
      Toys no interest at all.
      Verbal praise, being super over the top happy helped here at least.
      The other will take it when she is still under the threshold.

      Toys, praise or create excitement about a toy at home by engaging and playing with them creating value or your dog is too close to stimulus or not relaxed enough etc

    • @beasport505
      @beasport505 4 місяці тому +1

    • @maryjane4432
      @maryjane4432 4 місяці тому

      Engagement, if they are engaged with you then they won’t engage with the dog

    • @beasport505
      @beasport505 4 місяці тому

      Make sure your dog is below threshold (distance) plus engagement with you and also catch their attention to diffuse their reaction BEFORE they react by redirect, change pace, change direction, reward for calm behavior and moments of non reaction

    My dog is completely fine with other dogs... until they bark at him/lunge at him, then he LOSES HIS MIND. I suspect he thinks he's protecting me from the threat. Encountering untrained dogs out in the world is inevitable, though... I'm not sure how to correct this, other than pulling him away... but if anything, that seems to make his reaction even stronger/worse.

    So will the owner need to use the collar for the dogs life since she’s having a hard time handling the dog or is that what you teach without tools? It seems like a lot of trainers on here. Don’t the owners without tools so they truly understand.
    It seems a bit redundant to take a dog that doesn’t even know leave it and pair it with this without teaching leave it first
    Do owners typically get a choice of what to use or they go along with what you suggest

    • @KRDP
      @KRDP 4 місяці тому

      honnestly. owners can use anything they want, excepy somw degree the reality is that if yu train your dog with leave it it'll help your dog know to leave things they shouldnt get in to which in turn could save their life
