Wing Commander: Prophecy - The Movie (part 1/2)

- Опубліковано 16 жов 2024
- Years after Colonel Christopher Blair (Mark Hamill; Star Wars, Batman: The Animated Series) single-handedly ended the deadly war with the Kilrathi, a new enemy emerges from far cross the stars. Now, it is the duty of the TCS Midway and her crew to stop these deadly aliens before it's too late. This space combat adventure focuses on 2nd Lieutenant Lance Casey; the son of a legendary ace pilot and new recruit into the Confederation Space Force. Alongside veteran pilots Maniac (Thomas F. Wilson; Back to the Future) and Hawk (Chris Mulkey, Rambo: First Blood, The Purge) and his fellow new recruits, Casey will face a terrifying new enemy with ancient origins. Co-starring Peter Jason (They Live, HBO's Deadwood), Jeremy Roberts (Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country) and adult actress Ginger Lynn Allen.
NOTES:
-It's far from perfect. Over-all. Video, audio, editing. Expect warts.
-It's fake HD. But in my experience youtube doesn't like SD stuff, and drops the bitrate so uploading an upconverted video results in better quality.
-The video is from the DVD vobs released a few years ago, but those were non-anamorphic so I had to resize all of the FMV.
-There was some kind of graphics glitch on my game...turning off lens flares kind of minimized it, but there are still weird lines around certain objects (pretend they are old school matte boxes!) and the moving stars appear in front of objects.
-Some plot points don't seem to really be covered very well in the game itself. Like the Tiamat dreadnought. I never found any kind of cutscene, briefing or VDU comm that introduces it to the cast. There are a few other things like this, such as Blair insisting to fly and then not really doing so until the end.
-Some of the briefings do not have the computer voice and instead I left the text up longer to give time to read it. The reason for this is some of the time the damned game wouldn't play the sound files, as far as I know there is no way to extract the audio from the game files
-I suck at videogames, so there is some sloppy flying during the game footage
-The in-game HUD is SOOOO not 16x9 friendly, so it's stretched a bit and window-boxed. It won't fill your screen
-Some shots of the Midway have fighters crashing into the ship. It's not my fault, it's bad AI. I achieved the shots by setting my fighter up and afterburning while using rear view and my wingmen decided they ought to follow me...even if it meant going through the ship's hull.
-If you get annoyed at wingmen saying the same thing over and over try playing rhe game. I know you can shut them up, but comms chatter adds to drama
-I only used one non-George Oldziey song in the entire thing, because German metal doesn't exactly fit
-The sync seems to be a bit off for part 2, Rendering took 11 hours and uploading took about 6, so I am not in a hurry to re-do it.
-Working on getting a file of the complete movie uploaded to wcnews.com, the sync on that file is fine since it's a different render.
Man. Mark Hamill really knows how to take ownership over a character. Simply fantastic.
An actor with TALENT!
Ha !
It's nice to see Ginger do regular acting. She has a lot of talent.
I was thinking it was Amber, but I guess your are right!
Yeah. Ginger Lynn was a favorite of mine back in the day. (Major crush despite the profession. Never seemed fair. Guys thang bang bunches of women are considered "studs." Girls that do the same with guys are considered "sluts." I never did that. I would have been pleased as punch to be a mark on Ginger's "lipstick case.")
I can't believe I just found this , spent many , many days playing the entire series when I first moved back to the U.S. in 1992 I still have all my original CDs
Damn, after all these years I still knew the part: "you just met....and pissed off Maniac".
This is one of the few games I actually finished but damn what a story this was. I even read and perhaps still have one of the books.
Awesome game and story they don't make em like this anymore
Great to see Biff tannon again. Maybe doc really sent him back to the future
Never had a chance to play this series growing up but it instantly reminds me of "Star Lancer" and that game I replayed many times. I always enjoy the live action movie cut scenes, shame it isn't a thing anymore for today's games.
Made by the same people. Reason for the similarities.
Played all of these games back in the 90's and early 2000's. Wish they'd tell us the names of the craft their flying in. My favorite was the Rapier. Logged so many kills with that one it blew my mind. Never died once at the stick of one of those.
Wow. Never knew about this game until I played star citizen, and I haven’t looked into it before until just now. The resemblance is uncanny, and the live action scenes are not bad at all surprisingly. This game must be a hit classic.
If the game FX sequences were replaced by more advanced CGI, this would be a good production. The acting & sets are really cool!
Luke, Luke use the force, Luke. The force, use, you will. You shall, the enemy, defeat. I must say this was a better movie than any of this decades Star Wars films. I still cant wrap my head around Rey, Anikin, and Luke being Palpatine's children.
My dad and I played the hell out of this. Mostly dad. He got so good that the game glitched... a mission where you were supposed protect capitol ships.
Every time he got up to and through the first part of that mission flawlessly, he would insta-fail upon arrival. He even neglected to autopilot once and flew manually to the waypoint to see if that was doing it. It wasn't.
If it's the mission I am thinking, it's because it's a bug where the Autopilot will turn on before you are actually done with the objective.
@@vinnyc.1265 I believe it was a three part mission. The first part is just clearing enemy fighters. Then, at the next waypoint, you protect three capitol ships who are already under attack, then I think you're technically escorting the ships to the third waypoint (protecting from another wave of attackers), then back to your carrier to land. This has been like 20-some years now, so fuzzy on details. We had gone through that mission more than once, and it wasn't particularly any harder than neccessary.
But when the bug hit, we would fight the initial wave of fighters, then upon arrival at the second waypoint, all the capitol ships would explode simultaneously and we'd get the comm screaming and whatnot. Hm. Weird. Played it again. And again. Kept doing it. Then dad had the idea of not autopilot-ing to the second waypoint. Ships still exploded when he got there.
Like, imagine playing SMB3. You've played through it front to back and can play straight through without warps. Suddenly, you get to the world 1 airship stage, and you start the level with 3 seconds instead of 300 seconds. And it keeps doing that to you. Forever.
The "solution" was a full uninstall and data scrub. We had to go back like it was a fresh install. The part that sucked the most was because we played stuff like that semi-competitve, both of our kill counts were back at zero. The combination of that and the ordeal of having to install more than once (erasing savedata alone didn't solve the problem) kinda took the fun out. The mission fixed, but we weren't really playing it anymore at that point, and there was the added "what if...?" looming about possibly running into that again.
33.58 gives me the chills. Takes me right back to playing the first Wing Commander!
Brilliant work. The game was hella fun and this brings out the old nostalgia feels. Well done.
Everyone in this game have a drinking problem. XD
This movie was brilliant, and the game itself was just as good,, I got a long way into it as I recall, right up to the bit where Blair gets captured by the Aliens.
When this was new it was ..incredible.
And today...it's incredible again.
Remember each single line - golden! ))
I'm over a quarter of the way in, and I like it. Decent CGI, all in all well done. Thumbs up.
How I miss Origin Systems and 3DFX, as well as _Wing Commander_-EA, please bring _Wing Commander_ back!
WING COMMANDER rocks! Still 1 of the best computer games ever made!
Not the best ever made but some of the most memorable games. It can't compete with todays games ;)
Oh that's patently garbage!
It's not, well story wise it holds up as one of the best but not graphics. Now, if they would do a remake of the graphics (not the videos, they should stay the way they are) then it would still be on of the best.
With that I agree with you. I thought you meant actual game-wise. No, you're right, I too was not impressed with the graphics engine they used either. Seemed MORE primitive than the WC4 engine!
At this time the Freespace2 Engine was FAR superior to anything else out there. So much so it is STILL being used today for amateur gaming! If you saw WC:Saga, the graphics in that KILLED what was in Prophesy, and the engine was far OLDER than the Vision engine!
they are, its called Star Citizen
I love the Computer Game style Artistry of this
Beat this game many times. The best that late 90's had to offer.
Friend (I hate to tell you my age....almost 55...cough..oops that slipped out)...this was one of my favorite games. The Wing Commander and Kings Quest and Quest for Glory. Yes the graphics were as best compared todays games, but these games had great story lines and game play. I rarely play any since they lost their kick. Few exceptions on my Xbox 360; maybe 3 times a year a pull it out. But you said it best. Best of the 90s.
@@kimclayton2860 Never beat King's Quest or Quest for Glory, though did finish a few Sierra games. How I managed to guess my way through Larry 7 is pure miracle. I miss the days when the computer had to impress without relying on the internet. I collect retro gear and can enjoy all my games on the original hardware. Kids growing up nowdays will have nothing to go back to when they get old and start craving nostalgia. Everything is tied to the web. Company goes out of business, and so does the service. Or they just pull it because it no longer earns money. Meanwhile I can play my Wing Commander 3, 4 and 5 any time I want.
@@enilenis I have kept retro gear too. I can still fire up my DOS machine when I want to. Even have XT with an EGA card if I really feel nostalgic.
I grew up on the entire series. Absolutely loved it. Now after years I see how terribly poor the acting was.... and I still love it ;]
i think the acting is the best part the battle scenes were just atrocious
I think this movie sucks
Some of the acting sucks. Especially the dogfight chatter.
But the veteran actors like Mark Hamill always give great performances.
my 3rd time this year
WC4 had great acting! But they also had a great cast!
Brings back memories, thank you for this!
God I miss playing this game, back when it first came out I played it so many times!! Completed it twice a week at least .. good old days!
Oh shut up you brainwashed left ling loonie!!
Even with all the flaws you mentioned, I really enjoyed the film. Please do make more of them.
so much nostalgia...it's a shame that there never was a sequel. Thank EA for that!
Being a massive fan of WC3 & 4 I was gutted i never had a strong enough PC at the time to play this game. Never got to play it until about 10 years ago when i bought it off ebay.
This is better then the movie Hollywood put out a few years ago.
Wing Commander was the best space shooter ever I played it on the Panasonic 3D0 and it ruled back then
Oh great. Being talked down to by “Biff”! Make like a tree and leave!😂
Still, I like it very much! Good looking actors especially actresses, good plot, probably a little naive but still exciting, and even though the graphics is poor it is heartily warm! Thanks for posting and wonderful nostalgic memories of my crazy youth!)))
The editors of Computer Games Strategy Plus named Wing Commander: Prophecy the best "Sci-Fi Simulation" of 1997. not bad for 20 plus year old game.
"Best Sci-fi Simulation of 1997"..doesn't this mean that ALL candidates are over 20 years old? Best "Sci-fi Simulation of 1998 was Freespace and best of 1999 was Freespace 2. Both are vastly superior games compared to Wing Commander Propechy.
@@kimnice but wing commander started them all, like wolfenstein and doom.
I miss.... this! All of it! I grew up on the X-Wing and Wing Commander series. Good old fashion fighter sim, decent (at least for it's time) story, and (in the case of WC) live action cutscenes. This is what I was hoping for when I bought into Star Citizen.... (looks a calendar)... 8 FREAKING YEARS AGO!
All the other big sims out there just have too much going on. I don't have anything against trading, exploring, etc. I just want to be a fighter pilot on a Carrier in an interstellar Navy and a story worthy of our time. SW: Squadrons feels like it'll be the closest but I just don't believe the SP/story will have the depth and scale and treat it like Battlefront 2's campaign, tacked on just to avoid a backlash.
I'm still by how far WC came. I can recall being eleven and tweaking my 386 to play the first one, begging Dad to buy more memory. WCIII is still in my opinion the first FMV game that got it right.
I played through all of the Wing Commander games when they came out back in the day. Just wish the motherboard on my old flight sim rig still worked - would be fun to play some old space combat sims again.
Thank you for this masterpiece!! I really appreciate your work
Wing Commander is a series that desperately needs to be rebooted.
Isn't Squadron 42 supposed to be a reboot of sorts?
Yes, Squadron 42 is basically Wing Commander with some names changed to prevent EA from filing a lawsuit and brought bankg up to date with the latest technology.
It is a shame if such a UNIVERSE with its HISTORY would have to be "recreated" instead of "expanded upon", because it means a lot of wasted effort.
"It is a shame if such a UNIVERSE with its HISTORY would have to be "recreated" instead of "expanded upon", because it means a lot of wasted effort."
To be honest, WC history past the ending of WC 2's final mission pack does need recreating. The novels were pretty dire all around, WC 3 featured several execrable plot and design decisions that ruined much of the overall experience, WC 4 was good, maybe even great, but pretty self-contained and with no place to develop the story further, and WC 5 was just fucking bad all around - at no point the invaders felt more than a nuisance, and soap opera on board of Midway mostly was just sort of there, instead of creating a coherent war story.
not just rebooted but redone to be multiplayer in a closed location forcing the same close up battles that wind up BASHING the other ship and losing shields sort of battles a LOT like in the game and movie but online up with different ships and objectives as LOCAL WAR in a much larger war that wing commander was way too quick to make a whole movie into a game and then foolishly end the war...game wars do not end...always a new chapter or angle or goal or twist on any of it. it could be better than ever... they just do not have the vision to do it right like I (most fans) would want.
Props on you for Frosty as a Callsign; there is only one reasonable nickname for him and that is it.
thanks for uploading this, i used to play this game years ago, and loved the cut scenes between missions.
But when i got Windows 7 and tried to run this game again, the video scenes were out of sync, and the only remedy was to turn off video acceleration in the options.
my favorite missile system was the Swarmer AB, 8 missiles all swarming on the one target, boOM!
My problem was that the video ran at 10 times the proper speed, complete with 10x audio. Never did find a way around it, even turning off video acceleration didn't work.
I had WC Heart of the Tiger, WC Price of Freedom as well as WC Prophecy, would love to see new versions of all the WC series programmed from scratch to play on the current systems (hopefully without the dummy mode they put in games these days for consolers).
I read an interview with Mark where he said he originally auditioned for the role of MANIAC & even after agreeing to play the lead role of BLAIR he was pretty bummed because MANIAC was obviously the juicier character.
Watching this movie at 3 in the morning is like listening to a free audiobook on a ten hour drive....it sucks but it passes time and its free so you cant really bitch about it
Thank you for uploading and fulfilling my unfulfilled childhood!
this bring old good memories back !, one of the best games ever.
+3dkiller Best Games, worst movie EVER
top of the line for the time and beat the crap out of it and privateer! graphics were crap but once you got into a few fights the eye of the tiger rises and you just have to kill them all and faster. They just have to KEEP the ratios and remake the game in HD from scratch and YES i would play it AGAIN! None of the crap they offered us worked... it was the close up battles that made the game...dog fights that are NOT 1000 miles apart shooting at a pixel in the distance.
why can't they just do it right and move the story too... like a fast dead story played out too fast and comes to a end...new version would last much longer and battles would be online?
AHHH i am too old and want too much from kids that look at the games of great start and see them as crap?
2018 and it still is not made right!
and all we asked is they upgrade the graphics and cleaned up the acting...we did not ask for much!!!
It was nice to see a 'younger' Ginger Lynn (Allen) again. But I could have missed this one.
I had a few of the wing commander games, they rocked. glitches aside this was pretty cool, thanks :)
I’m digging this!!! Com, Luke freakin Skywalker Too!!! HELL YES PLEASE!!!! More hopefully of this series!!!!
I would say a step up but the waste of society are here as well. Keep your dirty mines in the gutter guys. So they went from the scraps from the old plane yard to complete digital. Why do they have to go to the extremes, All the time. The actors and actresses can pull it off. Even the Lady Ginger Lynn, she was a good actress with what she had to work with. Thank You Loader.
Oh man i want a remastered WC series now...
Damn this game bringing memories
First WC game I played. The graphics we're very good for is the time.
Still a better flick than The Last Jedi...
good to see Mark in this game
"I don't wanna see you in this comment section again, Pleeb. Woohoo!!"
One of the all time PC game classics.
God I miss this game. Played it way back when half a gig was ludicrously big for a game while 2.4gb hard drives were becoming standard. Its too bad it never continued after SpecOps.
Great visuals, unique but although I would change the script to more real time language, the fans are going wild with joy over this .
this is such a trip i played this as a kiddo and now im 35...
So did I - and I am 52 now - maybe I rebuild a 486 system with a soundblaster card...
still a better story than The Last Jedi. And Mark H. looked like he was actually enjoying himself here.
Lol. Beat me by a couple years! 🤣🤣🤣
Good to see Biff in another role outside of Back to the Future :D
he portrayed Maniac in earlier games of the WC installment already: WC3 Heart of the Tiger and WC4: Price of Freedom. search YT for any "let's play" of those games . :)
Manic had his own squad in WC2 Ops, it sucks that no matter what you do, Dallas dies, Needed more Kilrathi interaction
I REALLY wish some one like HBO or Amazon OR Netflix would do a series on the Man Kzin wars .
As long as they aren't based on the books....
Ginger Lynn - Allen! Aka: Ginger Lynn. Adult film star from back in the 80's and AVN award winner. :) She's in this movie.
30:45
I've seen a lot of Ginger Lynn movies, and that is NOT how this scene normally plays out...
I enjoyed the movie. Thanks
I wish they would update this game. It's awesome!
Loved this game.
A Super Nintendo movie!
Waiting for Mario to rescue space mushrooms.
This brings back memories of when game's was game's not like it is now day's lol
This game is where I got my gamertag from.
I remember playing this when it came out....... I feel so old now.......
I got into this book series after my brother lent me a book he had. This is first time I have seen it on the screen.
One of the best games I played along with the previous game.. I think it's called Heart of the tiger!
one of my favorite space game with elite dangerous!
Согласен. Особенно когда давным давно смог установить её с горем пополам на первый pentinum. У неё ещё 3 диска шло в комплекте. Очень радовался
Played this game so much that Nightmare mode was easy as hell. I tried to get 100% accuracy on one mission but closest I got was 97%.
The guy who plays Casey sort of reminds of Patrick J Adams from Suits.
It amazes me that the graphics of the ships and such look so gamish of those that look similar. But I do not criticize it as I grew through that form of graphics.
I remember Qbert before he was Qbert lol idr the name but yeah
Thanks
star citizen is wing commander reborn!
Showing my age here but i played the original WC on my amiga 500+, still have my amiga and games in the loft and now feeling the need to go hunting for it to play laggy WC....
Come to think of it, while watching these again, one way the franchise could come back if we concentrate on Decker and make it a strategy spin-off like Halo Wars or Gears Tactic. However, I do realize that it will be impossible since Chris Roberts is busy with Star Citizen and Origin System has been disbanded. But a boy can dream right?
Mark Hammil, 'hide~n~seek' champion of the world . . . . so here's when he's been at? Who knew?
X103-A Excalibur from Wing Commander.... or the dragon from Wing Commander: Prophecy... loved the Wing Commander Games.... just wish someone would bring them out updated/rebooted for modern consoles
Video game movie. Stay away unless u like it.
i still loved the game and i wished that i could be in a starship and building a huge star war ships to protect our country and our world from invasion that would be so very cool now that's is my Greatest dream on my bucket list.
Check out Star Citizen mate, it's a space game that's in development lead by Chris Roberts, he made the Wing Commander Series :)
Sound is aweful...static
By and large, I did enjoy the acting. It's really Casey (the main character) who brings it all down. Stilletto and the science girl weren't great, either.
Maniac, Hawk, Maestro, and Zero were all great though, and Blair was the same steady hand as before. Even Dallas was good as the character he was meant to be.
I think aliens acting better than casey
make wing commander into current film and new screens with same ships
Never thought id see a space ship ...made of LEGO
duuude, thanks so much for your effort!
When I was little, I remember being mad because I would see this box and hope that it would be compatible for Macs. And I would be sad. Very sad. Still sad.
I like Ginger Lynn Allen's earlier work better.
@Bill23799 That’s messed up Bill! 🤣
Holy I forgot about this. Maniac!!!
Very impressive i was working on a Movie style video for Prophecy a few years back....but never got around to finishing it....just wondering how you got such sharp fmv looks really crisp.
A lego house in space. That's different
Got all the wing commanders in original boxes but you can still get the GOG versions that will work on a modern PC
That jump from 41:16 to 41:20 was a bit annoying because it's suddenly in the middle of the mission, and it seems like it's really far in the game to suddenly have all the enemies known and one of the big enemy capital ships. I also could have sworn there was a early mission where the aliens kill off several ConFed ships that is unavoidable. Other than that this was a really great thing to watch again after so many years.
TCS "Deveraux" is of course named after Jeannette "Angel" Deveraux. Sort of irony the ship named after her is destroyed also next to Kilrah; the place she was executioned on.
I'm still pissed that there was no sequel to this, X-Wing Alliance or Freespace 2. I made myself a Windows 8 PC just for these games, got a sidewinder FF2 as well to get the full package.
What a sad life you have....
If it wasn't for the animation this might be a good film.
The animation is from the original game, and I still remember most of the missions, and graphics... Fantastic
Oh i miss the Maestro and Maniac comidian duo
I never saw this movie/serie (out of country, so it’s a first time for me. I’m impressed], like it, glad I didn’t miss 👩🏫 it. 👍👍👍🤤
