The Toccata and Fugue in D minor, BWV 565, is a work for organ written between 1703 and 1707 according to musicologists. The imslp attributes it in 1708. In his early days, Bach was a great admirer of Dietrich Buxtehude, to the point of absenting himself for several weeks, while working for the city of Arnstadt, in order to go and listen to him in Lübeck. North German organ works from this period are characterized by the presence of the Stylus phantasticus, derived from improvisation. This one includes heroic passages, with sought-after harmonies and sudden changes of rhythm. The toccata is a musical piece for keyboard instruments in an improvised and virtuoso style involving arpeggios, traits, and pedal. Klaus Eidam puts forward the hypothesis that the work was written in order to severely test the mechanics of the organ as well as the sound and playability of the instrument. Indeed, Bach was shooting all the stops of the organ in order to evaluate the power and the sufficient wind produced by the bellows. This piece would have been originally created for the harpsichord and then transposed to the organ to increase the spectacular effect. Due to the age of the work, there remain many unknowns about the conditions of its composition. Recent musicological works attribute the work to Johann Peter Kellner. However, there is a very broad consensus that the BWV 565 is indeed an original work by J. S. Bach. Certainly a youthful work, it is particularly imprint with the influences the composer loved to imbibe. The resemblance with other works are clear BWV 564 or BWV 566, and the initial formula of three notes more generally called a pinched is found the BWV 538, BWV 540. Generally speaking, the solidity and length of the fugue, particularly the small contrapuntal labyrinth that Bach used, was practically inimitable at the time. *Lucien*

I must confess that I have no idea about music at all, especially not about classical or baroque music. But when you listen to and look at it, you can only be amazed. What complexity is there in this music? And on three levels: Firstly, the person who built this organ. Take a look at it! Every key, every stop, every pedal has its own meaning. How many combinations does that make? What an incredible imagination someone must have who can create such an instrument, someone who can compose such a musical work for this fantastic instrument and, lastly, someone who can master this instrument so virtuosically? Genius on all levels comes together to create a total work of art that you can't even begin to imagine with an ordinary brain. I came across this video by chance, but I am more than thrilled.

that is impossible, so humanly impossible! ;)))

The man knows his instrument ... and he knows how to use the echos in the hall. He really plays the room. Great timing.
This is by far the best rendition of this piece on UA-cam. Excellent phrasing and perfect registration tempo. Very well done.
Maravilloso
One of the best renditions
I'll never forget this piece in that it was the theme music for Rollerball. Anyone remember that movie? It goes back to 1975 and starred James Caan.
Happy Holidays everyone.
Wonderful! It's a crime that someone so talented has so few subscribers.
No, it s logiciel in front this time .but ,be optimist! Souls didn't need to subscribe to hear beauty of élévation. Friendly.
Music like this reminds me of the beauty and wonder in the world. 🌍 It's a reminder that art can be a source of solace and inspiration. I'm in awe of the talent that brought this piece to life. 🎶🌟
Thank you for not murdering this with the last cord as a Major one. True respect for the master and his work and great interpretation.
Skvěle a procítěně, bez zbytečného spěchu zahraná Toccata. Bravo! 👍👍
Hallo,
Sie loben daß er ohne Eile spielt!
Da gebe ich Ihnen einen Tip, UA-cam Kanal Xaver Varnus,
das gleiche Musikstück von Bach
gespielt durch Xaver Varnus im
Berliner Dom. Schön langsam
aufgeführt, hören Sie mal rein,
vielleich nach Ihrem Geschmack!
Grüße aus Berlin
this interpretation is so magical that its easy to forget it's being actively recorded. reminded of this during the silence when he's messing with the stops and you can hear the sound reverberate through the church. these instruments just sound that way and its absolutely magical.
Beautiful rendition of the theme from Shock Theatre! Seriously, powerful instrument played by a master of the console!!!!!!!
You can't genuinely play those peace reading the sheetmusic
There are only a handful of classical pieces that bring me to tears and this is one.... idc if ppl hate me for it or think less of me. This is a beautiful masterpiece
To be moved by music is a sign of sanity.
The very best performance I have ever heard of this piece. I watch and listen again and again. Bravo.
God I just really love this piece of music
To me, this is the best, most dramatic, powerful version ever heard! Thank you!
That transition on 5:57 is so smooth, I've heard so many other great organ players falter on that part. Incredible.
and more than 400 years later
we're still listening to this
amazing if you think about it
Very good understanding of Bach's music on an emotional level. This is rare.
Juste... WOW!
Absolutely phenomenal. I enjoyed watching almost as much as hearing this. Just beautiful
Quel instrument fabuleux
God’s music!
I am pretty sure if someone explained to Jean-Baptiste how to fly a plane he would say "That's it?"
Qué instrumento más sublime Gracias Jean Baptiste Merci Bravo!!!
Bravo Jean-Baptiste et vive Toulouse !!! 😊😊😍😍
Great! Bach sounds well on this organ. I would love to see more videos from you, this is really a high quality sound and video UA-cam organ channel, keep it up! Also: I really appreciate your interpretation, not trying hard to make it sound 'special', but just creating the sound as it should be (in my opinion)
D'accord ! 👍
Agreed 👍
Just unbelievable! To memorize all this heavenly music with its complexity is just shows what human beings are capable of ...and for Bach to compose this shows there visto more to sheer existence on this planet.
Maravillosa interpretación para una maravillosa obra. Muchas gracias por esta entrega. Saludos desde Buenos Aires.
Splendidamente perfetto !!!! Complimenti !
Superb. I've never heard this played better. What an amazing instrument too. More please!
A brilliant craftsman who invented such an incredible musical instrument.
A genius composer who wrote such a masterpiece.
A brilliant performer who perfectly performs such a complex composition without sheet music.
How is that possible? What kind of people are these?
@@MarcosAlmeida-rr8ks As the policeman said when asked how to get to Carnegie Hall, "Practice, practice, practice."
His rendition is brilliant and the organ in particular
Merveilleux .Merci monsieur. 🙏🕯💕 ...
Bravo! This is one of the best renditions of Bach's Toccata and Fugue that I have ever heard. Jean-Baptiste is very talented. Again, great job on what I believe to be one of the most powerful pieces of music ever written. Thanks for posting this!
Excellent !
Dear God, what an increadable performance. Sir, the only difference between you and Bach, is that he wrote it.
Wow, bravo.
Regards from South Africa
Oh my god...this is the best version i have ever heard!! I am a big fan of bach and organ...I Especsially this 565..cannot play my self..but I have very good ears...and this perfomance makes me cry!!😥🤗🤗Beautiful and perfect!!!!!!! Thank you!🙏💖
I must confess that I have no idea about music at all, especially not about classical or baroque music.
This is a world class interpretation by a world class organist on a world class instrument. Mssr. Dupont conducts a clinic with this video on touch and delivering all the majestic powers at work on the page to the listener's ear. A marvelous rendition. Thank you Jean-Baptiste, for making and posting such a fine recording on UA-cam!
Bravo! I love this piece, and to see it played adds another dimension to the experience for me. I’d love to hear it played live.
Tellement merveilleux…. Et quelle sublime interprétation ! Merci 🙏
..for me personally it was a fantastic experience, flawless interpretation from memory, just amazing Mr. Dupont!!!👏
