Ironic how this song just popped up in my head and, for the record, I couldn't remember the artist. I just remember first hearing the song back in 1985 on urban radio here in America. Went on to Google search "Say I'm Your Number One" and came up with numerous results of Princess. Found more things about her and this song interesting; a Black British singer with an soulful voice and a great record produced by the same team behind hits for Bananarama, Kylie Minogue, and Rick Astley. This particular record sound more like R&B than pop and sounds nothing like Stock Aitken Waterman's work with the aforementioned. Also, what's interesting is that this joint was a big hit on the pop side in th UK, but not in the U.S. where it was a hit on the R&B charts. I guess it shows that fellow Brits have a broader and eclectic taste in musical styles than mainstream Americans who are more into the flavor of the moment (of course not this American). Anyway, I am glad that I have been reintroduced to this hit and much love to Princess and her talents.
You can blame the radio big shots for that in America. They chose what was good and bad for the listener. Basically making decisions as to what people should like and dislike.

Shame that Princess was in the spotlight for such a short time, I thought she was a damn good vocalist and a lovely looking girl! The tune and the beat is reminiscent of BB and Qs Genie. Around this time Stock Aitken and Waterman were writing decent songs before the rubbish (in my opinion of course) they churned out with Kylie Minogue, Jason Donovan, and Sonia
Pete Waterman gave her the name Princess. At that time during the mid 1980s There were acts like King (Paul King), Prince and Queen. She actually hated the name Princess.
