From what I've read, this style of bracelet is popular among the BDSM crowd. I guess that's where it gets the name from as the submissive would usually be the one wearing it.

Yup, the name is a bit sad, but I'm not sure if these style of jewelry was used by slaves since they would likely not have accessories. I think it's just a translation from the original Indian word, since they are the ones with this style of jewelry
