  • The Knifeless Rebar offers a nice tool set to compliment those who carry a separate folding knife. By eliminating the knife blades on this model, a couple of extra slots are freed up to provide a couple of extra tools. It is a great handyman tool.

This channel is just so awesome. During the work day I have caught myself thinking "I can't wait until after work when I can watch TX Tool Crib instead of working." I think it's because it provides a vicarious value --- often the only way to experience and compare tools this well is to buy them, so you can then have a chance to examine and compare them. This channel allows viewers to get a bigger dose of that experience without breaking the bank to pay for the tools. And it helps viewers decide what to buy when they only have the money to buy one thing. Watching this channel is the closest you can get to having a chance to calmly play with, and ponder over, someone else's expensive tools at considerable length but yet without bothering or imposing on that person in any way (crashing their pad, asking to borrow their tools, etc). And you can pause and rewind too! And rewatch months later as needed.

Agreed! The RIGHT channel on You Tube is indispensable. Ben does a good job. Reminds me of the theme song from the Dukes of Hazzard........"she don't understand, they keep showing my hands but not my face on TV." Well done, Ben! The right voice and temperament; and good, in depth content. Thank You.

I very much appreciate the compliments from both of you. I have a couple of videos where I show my face. I think one of the videos about securing loads down on a truck, and the video on my Knaack gang box. The reason I don’t often show my face is because I wanted my channel to be about what I’m trying to teach or review, not about me.

I am seriously thinking about pairing this with a the Victorinox Rambler I currently carry, because in the United States, cops are getting worse about 1 hand opening knives. This has no knife and cops don't care I always have my Rambler, since it's so small. I think both would be awesome together and I would be legal, even if laws get strict here.

I'm edc-ing a leathermann for about 30 years now! (working as an event technician). After 30 years i investet (old supertool is still working) in a new one:
The Leatherman rebar. It's nice an compact without the knifeblades, i'm wearing a knife anyway.

  • @kriskabin
    @kriskabin 2 роки тому +3

I've been EDCing this Leatherman on my belt for 2yrs now. I bought it for it's size, I hardly know it's there on my hip, & because I didn't need a 2nd knife. ( I also carry a folding neck knife.)
    Knifeless Rebar
Pros: light weight. Amazing saw, file & micro scissors ( Ideal nose hair tamers, BTW.)
Cons: sharp handle edges that dig into my hands when I'm using the pliers. An open wasted space next to the never used lanyard hole "tool." ( IMO, Leatherman needs to fill this vacant dead space with a tool!! And, get rid of the lanyard loop & install a tool that people will actually use!)
The Rebar is an ok Leatherman, but these cons really bugged me over time, so I sprang for the Wave+ model. (Wow, it's like going from a 1963 Volkswagen to a new Mercedes!) * Seriously folks, for only $30 more, the Wave+ is a much better tool!
Length wise, the Rebar & the Wave are the same. It's the width that's the difference, because the Wave has more tools & NO WASTED SPACE! In fact, the Wave fits in the Rebar's leather sheath. And, the extra bonus, I don't even notice the difference between belt carrying the Rebar vs the heavier Wave.
The Wave feels like QUALITY in my hands; the weight of it & the wonderful rounded handle edges! Nice too, that 4 of it's tools are on the outside of its handles. The pliers are rounded & come to a smaller point on the Wave, while the Rebar's pliers are squared with a little larger tip. There's also a diamond surface on one side of the Wave's file, which is a nice upgrade too.
I hope this comparison helps people decide which Leatherman to buy. **They're great tools made in Portland, Oregon. This is why I chose to stay with the brand, & upgrade to one of their BETTER thought out models. Knifeless Rebar to the Wave+👍

I ordered one of these a few days ago. I think it will work good. I carry a small fixed blade that I made so I don’t need the knives. I had the standard rebar before and always wanted scissors instead of knives. Also I live in Canada and our knife laws while relaxed, leave a lot of room for a officer to be a dick if they want to be. Being that I carry a small fixed blade and a leatherman it’s possible that they could say why isn’t the leatherman alone enough and confiscate my fixed blade or charge me with weapons related charges even though I have no intent to use either tool as a weapon. Having a leatherman that doesn’t have a knife on it makes that situation less likely and also makes it fine to go into bars and stuff and not worry about leaving it in the car.

Well I didn't know about the new cutters but on further inspection of my new super tool it is different. I cut tracing wire for gas main multiple times a day Monday threw Friday. Sometimes even steel core tracing wire which is super tough to cut threw it feels like cutting threw a nail. I have seen this stuff mare up the cutting edge on my tti with non replaceable cutters. So I'll see first hand how these new premium cutters hold up.

Nice review; I concur with your views. I have a Knifeless Rebar (among other multitools) complemented with a Removable Bit Driver kit, since both of my workplaces are no-knives-policy environments, and it has been flawless. One easy modification which I did was to replace the spacer ring found between handle and lanyard ring with a package opener from a Rev. You do need to modify the opener by adding a notch for it to clear the lock bar, and grind off the nail notch so that the handles close shut, but otherwise a simple, functional and useful addition to the Rebar.
Thanks again for your reviews! A+

It is nice to see they listened to those who need a knifeless tool. I do not, so I will not get this Rebar.
I put those scissors and the Wingman package opener in my regular Rebar, just by removing the lanyard ring and the large flathead. The package opener just needs some grinding to reduce that nail-catch hump, so the Rebar will close.
I've been thinking of putting the large flathead back and sharpening it into a chisel. We'll see.

The bit driver kit is listed in the links in the description box. It does indeed fit over the Phillips driver and allows the ability to add on extra bits. As far as removing the saw. It is a bit more challenging because of the types of screw heads, but it can be done. You will need another tool or a spacer to fill that void though.

You will have to remove the awl as well. Additionally be aware some CAA specially under EASA framework don't even allow tooling on the aircraft cabin, this will include the pliers and screwdrivers. I am aware about the leatherman style ps and other mini multitools TSA compliant but these will look more like a toy or personal care than a tool in my view.
I am aircraft engineer and love my rebar not only the combination of tools and compactness but also the low profile and less agressive style which is much better for an airport environment. I would love if the tool had a depth gauge and specially if the bit driver was magnetized to the PH2 driver. Quiet costly that piece of steel however works better for standard 1/4 inch hex bits with funny shapes that we need to use in aviation like torq-set for aircraft skin fasteners.

Recently I have heard of a lot of people having issues with overly tight pliers. If you feel that it is too much, I would send it back for a replacement, Leatherman is really good about honoring their warranty. Apart from that, just constant use will eventually loosen it quite nicely. You can also try Benchmade Blue Lube. It works quite nicely on lubricating joints in knives and multi tools.

I own all the top rated multi-tools, and the knifeless Rebar is by far the best.
I've rarely ever needed to use the knife on any MT as I usually have a Stanley boxcutter and a Mora Companion available. Not only is the Rebar thin and light, but it has the best set of screwdrivers. I assembled a Graco Baby crib with the phillips head. I removed a set of rusty license plate bolts with the large flat head, and threw new grips on my Ruger with the small flathead. Only complaint as many have mentioned, is they didn't balance the knife real estate with something useful, and the lanyard loop is expendable. I've contacted Leatherman and asked them to consider an 1/8" punch.

Plus the awl and saw lock, which will still be sketchy in many jurisdictions. Leatherman didn't put enough thought into this one imho
