If he hadn't discarded Breach to Frantic Search he would've been able to cast Frantic Search 9 times the next turn and see all but 2 cards in his deck with access to "infinite" mana (you just get 3 mana over and over). Was definitely a misplay to discard Breach, which he even mentions.
Obviously hindsight is 20-20 but breach is basically a one sided timetwister at that point in the game with the graveyard full. Having the game plan to twister a mono red deck you just spent the last 6 turns grinding to dust is maybe the wrong play.
I remember very early in this cube list while watching on my phone I had to google a card LSV was picking/considering so I googled “fourth year lingus.” I assumed it was a Strixhaven card and who knew what a lingus was haha.
@@cz19856 Initiative is just a stupid, overly complex mechanic. You could argue stupid for monarch, especially in two player formats, but it really isn't overly complex.
Referring to 1:20:20, there’s no point in draw step cast Abrade on Carnage Interpreter when we can upkeep it. It means the Interpreter still dies if the second card drawn is an instant.
As always, his greed was his undoing. He was so focussed on drawing 7 cards that he didn't consider the route of just putting his opponent to 0 permanents
I love trying out removing things like Initiative. I find it warps these cubes so much into favoring midrangey creature battles. It also promotes making less interesting picks because picking random initiative creatures is always good value.
Feeling vindicated for questioning the previous P1P1 Lutri picks over Reanimate, Oko, and Laelia. EDIT: Lutri did absolutely nothing (again)! LSV mentions it once in a two hour video, when he explains why it's just not a good time to put it into his hand.
Highway Robbery looks like a slam in this deck. 0 mana for storm/lutri, bins two for breach and a sac outlet for titania. Surprised to see a hate pick over it.
I was surprised too. Seems like he didn't have an interest in using it for Storm...which with Underworld Breach, storm is more a formality than something you need to worry about to make it work. But all the same, it seemed like a good fit.
I started watching you to learn how to draft and I fell in love with your content. One of the things you taught me is to pick the card that works for your deck, not to plan my draft around hate. Ever since you've begun playing team drafts with known variables in your friends, however, you spend more time thinking about who will get what than what you need or what you will wheel--And I think if we compare the stats, your results this year reflect this philosophical change.
Do you ever miss normal non team draft? i must say i do miss the pure simplicity of not having to worry about what your passing and just taking the best card for your deck every pack.
I like no-initiative. I found those cards to be too powerful in a not so fun way. They don’t really combine with anything, they are too good on their own.
Sorry if you answer it in the video but I'm going to ask now in case I fall asleep. Was there a reason why you took initiative out? Is it just to keep mixing it up to keep it fresh or do you think initiative is particularly problematic for gameplay?
Oh nice. I even called the G-probe over brainstorm pick before you got there. Thanks for all the drafts. I think I might have to snag a rentail service and get in one via the divination.
I like the idea of no-initiative cube, what about a cube that's only cards designed for 2-player formats? (So no Initiative, Minsc and Boo, Forth Eorlingas, or Monarch)
If you removed from LSV's cube all the cards that are neither modern-eligible nor from 1993-2003, that would mean removing - all the Initiative cards (White Plume Adventurer, Seasoned Dungeoneer, Feywild Caretaker, Passageway Seer, From the Catacombs, Caves of Chaos Adventurer, Undermountain Adventurer) - the other Baldur's Gate cards (Displacer Kitten, Gut, Minsc & Boo) - all the Monarch cards (Palace Jailer, Emberwilde Captain) - all the Warhammer cards (Sicarian Infiltrator, Necron Deathmark, Noise Marine, Chaos Defiler, Mawloc, Night Scythe) - all the Jurassic Park cards (Spitting Dilophosaurus) - all the Clue cards (Headliner Scarlett, Carnage Interpreter, Unruly Krasis) - 4 other white cards: Unexpectedly Absent, Council's Judgment, Glimmer Lens, Staff of the Storyteller - 5 other blue cards: Hullbreacher, Spellseeker, True-Name Nemesis, Smirking Spelljacker, Mystic Confluence - 1 other black card: Toxic Deluge - 5 other red cards: "Name Sticker" Goblin, Broadside Bombardiers, Death-Greeter's Champion, Fiery Confluence, Elemental Eruption - 1 other green card: Pest Infestation - other gold cards: Fractured Identity, Baleful Strix, Torsten, Dack Fayden, Forth Eorlingas!, Otharri, Aragorn, Leovold - other artifacts: Relic of Sauron, Triplicate Titan, Currency Converter, Retrofitter Foundry, Coveted Jewel You'd probably have a hard time getting buy-in to remove a lot of the beloved cards here: Baleful Strix, Mystic Confluence, Fiery Confluence, Retrofitter Foundry, Currency Converter, Spellseeker, etc.
I actually really like initiative. It'd be cooler if initiative was just Enter the Dungeon, but the Initiative dungeon is more powerful than those by a significant margin.
Glad to see cube without these commander cards that obviously weren't designed for 1v1. I feel like they take over the game like no other cards and shouldn't belong in the cube to begin with - but each to his own.
Ultimately, mot really too interesting. You just use one pick for the objectively best card: someone on your team can use it. Removes some of the drafting from the draft.
I love LSV but he seemingly becomes OBSESSED with specific cards or colors to his own detriment. Lurus was absolutely useless here.......The obsession with red and blue is insane...
@@LSVargas Hey LSV, appreciate the reply. I know it's hard to hear criticism, but it's difficult to see things like this from the drivers seat. I can't recall how many times you've slammed urza in a mono green or mono black deck over very powerful green/black cards.
