Conor Oberst's "Napalm" from his 2017 album, Salutations. Get the song now when you pre-order the album: CD/LP: smarturl.it/Sal... iTunes: smarturl.it/Sal...
It's awesome to think how long hes been making music and how many songs he's written yet his lyricism hasn't dulled a bit. always one of my all time favorite artists
Most of this LP consists of full-band versions of songs from Ruminations. Oberst said this was his original plan, but people gave him really good feedback on the stripped down solo versions and he decided to go ahead and release those too.
The first time I ever heard Conor was at one of the worst times in my life and that song changed my mind about ending my life, and every song I've heard by him since has had a profound impact on my recovery from that dark depression I was once in, I will forever be in awe of this man and what his music can/does do
Me too,the power of music, its why i never gave up playin music, write a song, have fun, possibly give someone a reason to keep tryin, magic shit man, buddy millers songs all my tears and chalk did wonders for me also
It's a quixotic quest on a hot summer's night I've got a fist full of fireworks I wanna try and set things right I lost my inhibition I think I may have lost my wallet too In this dying land of plenty there's a whole lot of nothing to do I'm Billy Pilgrim, you're a Dresden doll They carpet bombed the city, thank god they spared the mall Let's hold a vigil for the kinda sorta innocent I guess I should defend your virtue but the truth is I'm still on the fence And old Heinrich Himmler he never broke the law, well technically speaking, ask Sam Peckinpah Sometimes you need a vigilante if you wanna get a just thing done And I don't wanna kill nobody whose only crime is worshipping the sun Breakfast of Napalm Burnt down the place where I belong Arch-rivals make love And they've got to keep it secret They still do it with the lights on I've got bad nostalgia for what came before Sad re-enactments of our civil war My heartache is obsessive I just wish that I could let it go But there's a mountain down in Georgia with a kickass laser light show I can always convince you Just like Patty Hearst Oh you're sympathetic baby when I'm at my worst I don't want to brainwash you, I just wish that you would change your tune Cos I've been gunning for redemption And I think I'll hit the bullseye soon Chartreuse and menthols Burnt down the town that we were from I lost my true love To a three alarm fire They tried to put out with a squirt gun Sing little child like a nightingale Sing little child, send the anthrax through the mail I wanna know you, I wanna know if you are true 'Cause the closer I get to you is the further that I feel from you Breakfast of Napalm Burnt down the place where we belong Arch-rivals make love And they've got to keep it secret Yeah they've got to keep it secret Yeah they've got to keep it secret They still do it with the lights on
Justin Smith my understanding is that this album was recorded with The Felice Brothers which may be what you're hearing and if it isn't you should check them out.
I'm so glad he is back he is with out a doubt my favorite artist every single one of his songs finds a way to amaze me. definitely going to see him at the greek theater may 13
Conor's music has had the greatest impact on me out of anything I've listened to. Bright Eyes was my favorite band and I've never loved a band more. Mystic Valley Band and Monsters of Folk stuff was good too. Unfortunately I've gotten burnt out on a lot of music and when I go back and listen to old Bright Eyes it just doesn't do it for me anymore. It's pretty neat that Conor is still making stuff and I gave it a try but I regretfully admit that I'm not captured by this new stuff. It's nice he's still making stuff and I wish him the best of luck anyway.
Try listening to Tachycardia, the live version on The Current in Minneapolis. It’s EXCELLENT. As you may know, it’s about the false SA allegation, and the heart condition that was either caused by the false allegation, or coincidentally discovered during this time period. I am of the belief that Your Health is GREATLY AFFECTED by a false accusation, and I believe that the Tachycardia that Conor was diagnosed with was at least worsened by the false accusation. This performance at The Current (in my opinion) is beautiful. Another song from Ruminations that was inspired by the false accusation is Gossamer Thin. When you are Falsely Accused, it’s hard to eat, and (if you’re a smoker, like Conor is), you smoke a lot, and drink a lot. All of those things (obviously) result in weight loss. Gossamer Thin & Tachycardia are 2 of his greatest songs. A few years later, he made the song Dylan Thomas, which I find quite beautiful. The song “Dance & Sing,” which was made fairly recently, is also quite good.
This wasn’t my favourite song the first time I heard it and now I’m obsessed with it lol I come back every day to play this video. Does anyone know what books he’s talking about apart from slaughter house five?
Yeah Conor! Another great tune to rock out to, thanks for an amazing show in Toronto- I really love Ruminations and to hear Cape Canaveral live was pretty wonderful. Also, thanks for the heads up on Leonard Cohen, I was really sleeping on that but I got his Leonard Cohen: Live Songs record and it's all gold to me.
I dont think i could fully appreciate Ruminations til I heard the fleshed out versions of the songs with a full band. I love it. this reminds me of Roosevelt Room off Outer South. Probably the organ and the subject matter
"Redemption can only be had upon discovering Demption which is kinda like Atlantis for psychosis. Go through what Woody Guthrie suffered because nobody would ever be closer to truth by experience than him. Jesus? Are you cool with this? He shakes his head up and down." ,dan'
"Dan this is you three years from today in the future. Wait for Christina outside of the nuthouse instead of using what cash you have on you to get drunk and float away from her on down the uphill road." ,dan'
I don't think there's anything this man could ever create that I wouldn't fall in love with instantly. I'm so happy he's still making music.
It's awesome to think how long hes been making music and how many songs he's written yet his lyricism hasn't dulled a bit. always one of my all time favorite artists
Seriously Conor is my hero.
check bright eyes new tracks....theyre dope af mate....Mariana Trench
He’s not anymore what happened to the people that need hope?
I had never heard of him till my daughter borrowed my car one day a few years ago and left a bright eyes cd in it, I've been a fan ever since
that's such a cool introduction to his music!
He's gone crazy! A new LP when the previous one's still fresh! Love him.
Most of this LP consists of full-band versions of songs from Ruminations. Oberst said this was his original plan, but people gave him really good feedback on the stripped down solo versions and he decided to go ahead and release those too.
cknocturne actually I think his label told him to release
yeah salutations and ruminations are actually technically the same album
The first time I ever heard Conor was at one of the worst times in my life and that song changed my mind about ending my life, and every song I've heard by him since has had a profound impact on my recovery from that dark depression I was once in, I will forever be in awe of this man and what his music can/does do
Logan Connor
Right on, friend... 💜
Me too,the power of music, its why i never gave up playin music, write a song, have fun, possibly give someone a reason to keep tryin, magic shit man, buddy millers songs all my tears and chalk did wonders for me also
The organ in this song is so rad.
Do you sleep? I love this.
love it! Mystic Valley feel :)
Yeah. Since I heard this live a couple of times in 2015 and last year, it reminded me of MVB, specially 'Roosevelt Room."
Just listened to Roosevelt Room this morning so happy that kinda sound is back :)
It's a quixotic quest on a hot summer's night
I've got a fist full of fireworks I wanna try and set things right
I lost my inhibition I think I may have lost my wallet too

Sometimes you need a vigilante if you wanna get a just thing done
And I don't wanna kill nobody whose only crime is worshipping the sun
Breakfast of Napalm
Burnt down the place where I belong
Arch-rivals make love
And they've got to keep it secret
They still do it with the lights on
I've got bad nostalgia for what came before
Sad re-enactments of our civil war
My heartache is obsessive
I just wish that I could let it go
But there's a mountain down in Georgia with a kickass laser light show
I can always convince you
Just like Patty Hearst
Oh you're sympathetic baby when I'm at my worst
I don't want to brainwash you, I just wish that you would change your tune
Cos I've been gunning for redemption
And I think I'll hit the bullseye soon
Chartreuse and menthols
Burnt down the town that we were from
I lost my true love
To a three alarm fire
They tried to put out with a squirt gun
Sing little child like a nightingale
Sing little child, send the anthrax through the mail
I wanna know you, I wanna know if you are true
'Cause the closer I get to you is the further that I feel from you
Breakfast of Napalm
Burnt down the place where we belong
Arch-rivals make love
And they've got to keep it secret
Yeah they've got to keep it secret
Yeah they've got to keep it secret
They still do it with the lights on
?? is probably "Chartreuse and menthols"
i think its Arch rivals make love
DUDE! This is fantastic. Reminds me of the Band and something else I can't put my finger on just yet. Joy!!!
Justin Smith my understanding is that this album was recorded with The Felice Brothers which may be what you're hearing and if it isn't you should check them out.
MrChocomonk I thought I heard Felice brothers on this album. that's awesome!
This has a real Highway 61 Revisited feel to it.

“Archrivals make love” HAPPY NEW YEARS!
I love Conor Oberst with Felice Brothers. They compliment each other well.
anytime someone this young knows Kurt Vonnegut characters - love it
James Daughton bah, he was 37 when this came out.
heard this live in brooklyn over the summer, been waiting for this ever since!
It's just like Just Like Tom Thumb's Blues!

This album will be awesome - I'm so excited
This came out of nowhere.
Conor, my friend... You never disappoint... God Damn!! 💜
After hearing this live a handful of times, it's great to hear a recorded version. Same with "Afterthought".

When I hear this guy's distinct voice, I think about Nebrska. Go Corn Huskers.
Dylan!!
Chartrusse and menthols 💕
The album cover reminds me of an album called Oaklandazulasylum released by a band called WHY? in 2003. I'm sure it's just a coincidence.
How ironic for a war movie ad to be on connor’s song.
"The fastest way to the bottom depends on your choice of shovel."
