I can’t tell you how helpful this video was! I’ve watched quite a few pruning videos but this was short and sweet. Didn’t lose me and now I can go prune my tree!
This was very helpful to understand rational for which branches and why. We have a royal raindrop crab that’s got horrible scab the past two years. It’s never been pruned so it’s way too dense. Can’t wait to prune it late winter!
I’m getting a prairie fire crabapple tree replacement tree on our city side and will use these tips to train while it’s young so thank you. I also liked your closing remarks, I’ve made it a point to know all of my neighbors and I share my garden with them and help them weed, paint or trim bushes they need help with. I think it’s important to let them know they have you as support. It’s a lot easier way to live than with strife and complaining about them because then they are more apt to respect you and your property. Some people I know might be impossible but I still try.
Fantastic video thank you. I've just bought a crab apple everest that can also be kept in a large container here In the uk. I'd love to plant it in the ground but get worried it will grow too tall
Great video! Informative with good camera angles. It'd be nice to hear more about how the crabapples growth habit factors into pruning and how the tree may appear in the future. Looking forward to see you prune your weeping cherry.
I will show the trees later in the season. I will probably prune them for multiple years. Most crabapples are not as difficult to prune as a pear which has a more upward growth habit. There are a few crabapples like that also.
Can I also prune some of the length off branches? My tree has gone wild and is reaching out in all directions. Growing like kudzu! I have a dwarf ornamental crabapple about 3-4 years old.
great advices! I have a crab apple tree in my front yard which has not been secured properly at the time of planting, it is now leaning a lot (due to the west winds, and also the weight of the foliage and apples). It's not pretty... Should I prune aggressively? cut the tree? The problem is that there really is not a lot of space to put anchors to re-secure the tree (the tree is close to the driveway)
It is early May in Wisconsin and my crab apple hasn’t bloomed or leafed yet. Some branches are dead, which I have pruned. I also have rabbit damage. I fear it is dying. Is there anything I can do to save this 3 year old tree? Via fertilizer or food?
Hello- I have a young 2" caliper crabapple tree I just brought home from the nursery. During the transport, some branches were damaged. If a branch broke near the middle, should I prune it right at the break point or prune it back to the branch it grew from? Or back to an outward facing bud?
The last two springs, my white crabapple tree has very few leaves, and very few flowers. I live in Wi, so when we had a warm quick spring, followed by a hard freeze, did this cause the buds to freeze and die off?
I am sorry about that. I have tried to improve as I get more experienced. I am a one man show and I will be working on getting equipment to improve audio. Thank you for your comments.

Best tree pruning video I've seen, great step by step and why. Thank you!

Thank you. That was very straight forward and simplified.

Thank you! So informative. Ready to prune my young crabapple now! 🙏🏻
This video is sussinct and informative. Very appreciated.
Thanks Gary, God bless you.
Excellent and very helpful!
Thank you for such a thorough explanation on crab tree pruning. How about those lower branches, can they be taken off also?

Looks great!
So helpful. Thank you!
Should I prune my CrabApple tree that is two years old?
Can I prune my young Chestnut crabapple tree to an open center? Or is this something usually left to regular apple trees?
The last two springs, my white crabapple tree has very few leaves, and very few flowers. I live in Wi, so when we had a warm quick spring, followed by a hard freeze, did this cause the buds to freeze and die off?
Is it getting enough sun?
When was this done? Early spring in guessing?
Late April.
I love you
👍🏻👍🏻
Lots of win! Back ground noise difficult to hear you?

All good 👍🏻👍🏻
Too much wind noise.
Thank you. I've been looking for just this video. The others I've found were not as helpful with an ornemental tree.
