Thank you for this video. I checked other tutorials on UA-cam and wasn't impressed. Somehow this step-by-step instruction was clearer than others and helpful. Thanks a lot.
Hi there, thank you for the video. What is the metal vent flap that came with the unit for? When unpacking you said you probably wouldn’t need it but curious to know what it’s for. Thank you!
I got EZ brackets with mine...ain't gonna use them. I think that I will take a thin piece of cardboard, make a very accurate template off the topside of the hood to mark out the screw holes , and then position the template where I want it , to allow for a plug in cord in the back...drill four tiny holes and start the screws, then install the cord , and slide it up and in place. My plug in, on the top edge of my stove is about 24 " away...so it should be good. Thanks for your video which showed that you don't have to use the EZ brackets if you don't want to.
Really should put loomex box connectors in to protect the wire coming in to the hood fan . When it comes to exterior venting and Although it's not code in my area and could be different where you are...gas stoves should be vented outside from the range hood upper fan and the suggested CFM fan rating should be your total top burner BTU's and divide by 100. As an example 40,000 BTU total would require a CFM of 400. Those look to be a CFM rating of 300.
Nice tutorial. I have a Broan BCSEK130SS but a similar older Broan in there now. My question is the one that’s there now, it has white to white and black to black. The manual (that didn’t come with the hood) says differently. Can you do a closeup of the electrical for me? Thanks so much!
Nice video. I got one quick question. I want to go with ductless. When you remove the vent plate on the top, won't portion of the vent opening will be blocked by the cabinet?
Hey Min, It’s been a while since I did that project. Isn’t there a air space between the top of the hood and the bottom of the cabinet. Might be worth a call to the manufacturer. Thx for watching
Hey Marcus..., Those shims just provide a mounting surface - something to screw in to since the cabinet bottom is typically so thin and unsubstantial. They are 1x2 inch pine ( 3/4 thick x 1.5 inch wide is the actual dimension) They go right to each side and are screwed in from the other side of the cabinet bottom. Once the shin attached to the cabinet, you then have a 1.5 inch wide surface to attach the range hood to. Hope that helps! Thanks for watching and asking.
Hey Micah, No issues. Ducted - vents outside great for smoke/burning food. But more complicated work and possible air leak to outside. Non-ducted - way easier to install. But doesn’t do much but circulate smoke. If you don’t burn food often, non-ducted is easy choice. Burn good- just open a window 😃 Thx for watching!
Hey Miriam, I added additional wood 1x2 supports first to span that gap. See the video 1:40 -1:55 or so. The thickness of that support is 3/4 inch. Then I could use a 3/4 inch or 1 inch mounting screw which would screw into the wood support. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching!
The point at which you show the hole that the wire must pass through to the house wiring, there is a metal plate attached, but the next shot you show the metal plate has disappeared. How did you remove the metal piece in order to pass the wire and connect the wires? Can you fill in the blank, please? Cheers.
Hey Fredriko, If I understand correctly, the metal piece to which you are referring is circular, the size of a nickel and it has a slot in the middle? If yes, then you stick a screwdriver into that slot and then bend and twist it and the tabs on the side of the piece will break off and can be discarded. Hope that helps. Thx for watching!
I noticed you didn’t add a strain relief 1/2-in here. Very important to add since theres metal on metal (minus the wire skins that can wear out over time). Great video!
Hi looking into getting this one. do you have a video of it one or couid you describe how loud it the fan is? im trying to find a quiet one for twitch streaming.
Hey Bilbus, Sorry - don’t have a video of that. I would look at specs and compare db ( decibel ) rating. Only way to compare one with another. Thx for watching!
Went with the Broan CRSH130SS I could vent to outside but has the option to vent out the front and using charcoal filters. Looks great and a very easy re and re.
Hey Bonerjes, We purchased this as Broan is pretty decent name. I would probably check online reviews for different products. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching.
Hey The... Yes. It’s default design is recirculating. Not sure about the filter number. Maybe try the Broan web site / customer service. Thx for watching.
Hey Farrell, Great question. Not really sure - it has been some time since I mounted it. I don’t have any memory of skipping any parts or steps. Maybe that’s an update to the product?? Thx for asking and for watching!
Hey Amb, I cut those on my table saw. But I know big box hardware stores carry a variety of thicknesses. I’m sure someone there can find you something that you could use. Thx for the question and for watching!
@@Housebarons ?? fine work mate, don't mind me, I'm just angry. But that's not vented, unless you're saying you added a vent? Under the floor? Range hoods should be vented if possible. Like I said, I'm just angry. Carry on and stay strong.
Hey Spruce, We did added ducting below the floor and then added an exterior wall vent. The exhaust fan is underneath the cooktop. I get what you we thinking - that it was just recirculating. But this one is truly vented. But thx for letting us clarify. If it wasn’t clear to you, there are probably others thinking the same thing. So no worries. Peace, good will toward men! Hey bab…, They typically supply a way to direct the flow of air outside the house if your house has a vent installed to do so. Otherwise, no need to use it and the vent just recirculates the air instead. Thx for watching!

Hey Maya,

If you are going ductless don't forget to remove the vent plate on the top of the unit.

Don't forget the bushing or clamp in the knockout. With the vibrations it could cut the wire ❤️

Sorry. That install was done some time ago.

Great video, I wish I had seen this before. The handyman cut out the duct plate above. Can this still work for ductless.
Hey Ashiesh,
Not really sure - duct plate?

How long are the mounting screws you used? The ones that with the unit are to short.

@@abedankiest6204 You are correct. Don't want the wires rubbing against steel. Problem waiting to happen if you don't.
my broan hood came with a white, black, green AND RED wire??? what do I do with the red wire?
Hey Heather,
Red and black might be for separate power for light and fan. I’d call Broan customer service for some guidance.
Thx for watching.
Where and how did you get the white cable for the power???
Hey Blabla…,
That’s just the electric line in wall from the builder .

how thick does the shims need to be?
Those look to be 1/2 inch or 3/4 inch. I don’t remember exactly - it was just to beef up / fill in the mounting area.

Looking to buy one but am wondering where the air comes out? I don't see a vent in front like most recirculating fans

Yes. It does recirculate but all under the hood.
Thanks for the question

You forgot to take off the recirculating cover on top to send the air out.
I need to get the manual to find out where the fuse is because this will not stop beeping
Hey Wrenson,
That’s a bit painful! What happened - did you find the problem?
Thx for watching,
Didn’t see you install a electrical connector. Should always use a 40/40 or an L16.
What other filter do u recommend

Most viewers would want to know how well item functions, noise level, suction, filtering out oder, fumes, grease, under typical cooking conditions.
If it's not ducted, it's not an install. Pointless.
Hey Spruce,
It is ducted - vents under floor to outside.
