I've got something similar in my car. Not a Tesla style head unit but a Chinese one nonetheless and it's been perfect for the year and a half that I've had it installed so far.
My main gripe with these systems is that they seem to run such an old version of Android that it makes them look dated. I love the idea, I just wish the software/UI was a little more up to date.
I have one similar to one of these in my 2010 subaru outback except its not a tesla screen its a 7 inch screen with knobs. mine runs android 9 with an 8 core cpu and 4gbs of ram. its a power house and the support for them on XDA is shockingly great. the units i would keep an eye out for is the Rockchip PX based systems like PX5, PX30. Mine is PX5
I'm a techy guy, and I'm actually working on something like this myself with an ipad and an arduino to communicate to the CAN bus. I'm a long way from done, but I was inspired by products like this

Respect friend, you are brave. I have heard it is especially difficult to get anything apple (specifically iOS devices) communicating with anything that isn't a certified accessory. one example is the OBDEleven team, they had to create a whole new device just to get it working for apple devices.
Still much better to have someone explaining the entire process that is familiar with all the wiring, process, etc. and have someone competent working the camera angles
I love the retro look of the '13 Mustang GTs! Also, I only used the CD player once. I just plug in my USB flash drive - and good to go! It has a cool (IMO) '90s vibe.
yay, now you can always have to look at what your are pressing while driving, rather than just reaching for that easy to find button. the future is great
100% and even tablets get outdated. A clean/simple single or double din would have been a lot better. and could kept the ACTUAL buttons for the a/c instead of having to flip thru the tablet

Cristian Ramos sounds like just really poor maintenance. I have a 98 cobra that the previous owners beat to hell but have never heard noises from the interior rattle. Have owned it for 10 years already. Granted it’s always had headers and exhaust so things are definitely deafened out a bit but even touching things they feel firm. All depends on exposure to heat and etc I’m sure, so every car is a different experience.

Ill be honest, in an age of every car having the screen in it, I actually appreciate the all analog button and dial set up of the S197 mustangs. It’s very comfortable to have buttons and dials for HVAC and radio controls.
Not a fan of mustangs but I love that instead of just buying new mustangs when they come out you are just making yours newer! So awesome man I love when people keep the car that started it all!
You can buy those off of Alibaba for half or more than half the price of Phoenix stereos. Same stereo. Only difference is they can help with support if you have questions. But that isn't worth twice the price.
I've had one in my ST for over a year and love it. It's like having an android tablet in the dash. If you have a hot spot, you can run any apps you want. It was so easy to install.
Can you please please please do a review on your new screen, now and in about a month or two later of owning it. I really want to know the pros and cons, before I actually decide to purchase it for my 14 gt.
My 2020 has chrome and carbon! 301a package has carbon fiber dash panels! More grey like the stitching everywhere! I love it, can't wait to mod it. Have springs and an H pipe to install asap!
I had one of those in my 2019 gt it was laggy and crashed often i eventually replaced it with the ford 8in sync 3 screen much better was $$$ but worth it in the end
I bought the cheapest basic single din head unit I could find with bluetooth, aux, radio and cd (and only use bt lol) and it works perfectly. As much as I want a screen with Nav controls like new cars, I couldn't stand it lagging when I need it. Rather use my S10+ on a phone stand

Lol I also put an android head unit in my Ford today. Got the Atoto A6 for $170 and man that's a huge upgrade from the old Kenwood that looked like a UFO crash landed in my dashboard. Your install looked way more straight forward to put in though as I had to trim the plastic lip on the inside that the factory radio clips onto but even still it was worth it. Having voice control is a game changer.
My P1 Volvo has FoMoCo stamped on a bunch of stuff too. Lots of Focus and Mazda3 parts. Thankfully the Volvos all have Volvo-specific drivetrains (love me a 5-cylinder), and almost all of my interior is Volvo specific. I believe it was just P1 and P3 cars that were Ford-based. P2 was all Volvo, and SPA and CMA are all Volvo too because that was after Ford sold Volvo.
@@markkibbe1802 Yes my P2 S60 is solid 15 years later, I notice the plastics (ex:Airvents) and headliner hold up better than the p3 S60 we have. On the p3 the headliner is coming apart and a lot of plastics are bubbling/falling apart such as the center console chrome finish and all the air vent tabs breaking. All those parts say FoMoCo on them. I also see a lot of junkyard S40s/S80s that also have garbage headliners and broken plastics. I have to say the 3.0 T6 engine has held up very well.
You know, I see this and I can't help but get reminded of the old MCM tutorial video from a long long time ago. The one where they installed an Ipad to replace the center console unit.
I installed one of these into a 2019 Mustang for a SEMA build last year and the quality of the buttons is worse than OEM. Also the terminals in their adapter harnesses were so flimsy that the constant power terminal broke during install...ended up having to remove the unit 3 times before everything worked. Wasn't impressed by the OS or apps either.
I had this screen for over a year. It held up to my expectations. Netflix, UA-cam, spotify, usb storage, maps. Worth every penny. Sadly i parted with my 6 for a newer 8.

I don’t find the S550 interior to be drastic improvement, more of an evolutionary improvement. The 09 to 10 interior change was more of a drastic improvement, IMO.
They need to add a twist knob because then its gonna be hard to lower or higher volume while driving. when you have the twist knob you dont need to look at a screen to higher or lower the volume. You already know where the twist knob by mind.
I installed an aftermarket panel that allowed the use of whatever 7ish in double din I wanted, and turned the HVAC Into a screen. It was pretty nice, and held up well before I sold the car. Look on American Muscle if this one doesn't hold up, I think my pictures are still there.

How did you connect the A/C, my wiring harness didnt have a connection to the A/C adapter and I have no control of it. The connection that was on the OEM is just hanging there.

the before looked modern to me. but im just used to looking at an 01 ram with a mediocrely installed aftermarket head unit. The head unit is probably like 10 years old now and i didnt have the right install kit for my truck.
I’ve got a 2011 Shelby GT500 that I bought used a short time ago. It came with the carbon fiber center console, but that’s it. Where can I find the accompanying trim pieces? It also came with an aftermarket Pioneer radio and some kind of integrated HVAC controls. I find it to be on the cheaply made side. Sometimes the controls work and sometimes they don’t. I like this one better. Great vid!

I have a 2015 SHO and I am not a fan of my climate controls being capacitive buttons and not tactile, because I can't adjust them without looking at them 90% of the time. I'll be interested to see what you think of this long-term
A question I have for the usb connection can you extend that and and replace it with your factory one that’s in that storage compartment in the middle console?
I modified my 99 center to fit a double DIN Android unit. It works fine for the most part, but what I wanted it for the most it's too slow for which is nav. All it's used for now is music and a screen for my backup camera sadly. I think my next step is to go the tablet route.

You can upgrade it online not a big deal 🤷
old versions are easy to build custom kernels for. that's why 4.4.2 was so damn popular for so long, and is still used in some android radios
Got an Android 9 in my Peugeot 307cc. You can find them for any brand car, and many have special models (like mine has) specific for that car.

The radio has that big metal cage around it because it sits next to the air/heat vents and when heat is on it heats up the radio.
Demcheck I had an 07 Mustang and the CD player could hold 6 CDs at once. I’m thinking they shrunk the insides and kept that big cage.

A lot of P3 Volvo parts say FoMoCo on them as well. In fact the IHU on P3 cars say FoMoCo on them as well and the look similar to alot of Ford units.

agreed, also putting a gt500 wheel in the car make a big improvement, that base wheel make the interor look like junk.

Just a heads up, you put the cupholder cover on wrong. you can take the black top part off and the carbon fiber piece replaces it.
Need to add that premium gauge cluster to finish the job or if you can find a roush gauge cluster even better

I personally prefer the s197 interior as is.. I have the premium trim with the leather and it gives me a modern retro vibe.. The S550s blended in with the crowds
I have a 2015 SHO and I am not a fan of my climate controls being capacitive buttons and not tactile, because I can't adjust them without looking at them 90% of the time. I'll be interested to see what you think of this long-term

the cd player thing is probably so big for cooling so you dont have fans behind your dash. those things can get hot in compact places

I do this for a living and I put carbon fiber wrap on my Accord interior trim (ricer I know) but it looks way better than the swirled wood trim
That digital panel is and looks amazing!! And so installer friendly.. I wonder if that could be retro fitted to a sn95 ?? I would freak out!!!😱😄😆
I modified my 99 center to fit a double DIN Android unit. It works fine for the most part, but what I wanted it for the most it's too slow for which is nav. All it's used for now is music and a screen for my backup camera sadly. I think my next step is to go the tablet route.
