    Excellent comparison. Great attention to detail by eliminating the tires as a variable. One thing to consider is how tire noise travels into your vehicle. Much of that noise is transmitted through the floor board, doors, and rear wheel wells. I recently lined the entire cabin and doors of my 2007 JKU with Kilmat 80 mil Sound Deadening Matt overlaid with 3M Thinsulate Acoustic/Thermal Insulation SM400L. There was a significant difference in tire noise at all speeds. Unfortunately, I only took base sound levels at 65 mph. At that speed, the noise from the soft top overcame the benefits of the sound insulation and my db levels remained the same. I do have a hardtop on order and anticipate a significant difference in sound level with very little tire noise. Once again, great job on the comparison!

      That’s awesome! Im sure it will be nice and quiet once you get the hardtop. I need to look into lining mine as well!

    This was the most straightforward and thorough road noise comparison for these vehicles I've found so far. Bravo!

    Hey Jon. After wanting one for years, I finally got my first Jeep 2 years ago - 2018 2d JK and am still in love with it. I couldn't get enough youtube videos from fellow Jeepers so I don't know how I've missed your channel until today. I subscribed immediately (jumped on the Insta channel also!). I watched every video and loved the balance of practical, useable stuff that's not over the heads of us non-mechanics. Thanks so much for the work you put into these. I'll spread the word as much as possible! Looking forward to the next video. Thanks again.

      Thank you so much😁!!!! I really appreciate you taking the time to watch them! I am hoping to make several more before the summer is out. Also, the 2 door was an awesome choice! As much as I like all the room of a 4 dr, the 2drs just look so much better🔥 thanks😁

    Awesome test, lots of big UA-cam channels don't go through the same effort to get the test right like you, thanks!

    Your commitment to change the tires to eliminate that as a variable is some serious commitment. Definitely gets you a like and a follow! I am making a decision whether to buy a hard top for a cross-country trip in a 2008 JKU (that also has the Bestop fastback soft top). I would hypothesize that with the ordinary AT tires that I run, the Db difference between the two tops would be more noticeable than with the mud tires. Thoughts?

    • @TacticalJK
      @TacticalJK  4 роки тому +1

      Thanks😁😁 and I bet so! If it were me, I would definitely buy a used hard top for the trip. I recently went on a 6.5 hr road trip in the black jeep with and avg speed 75+ mph with no problem, while I wouldn’t even be willing to attempt such a trip with the soft top. And you could probably sell it for the same money afterwards👍🏼

    Appreciate the thorough testing, accuracy - and serious (non yelling/shouting cheeseball) nature of the video. How do you think the Bestop "Fastback" top compares with the stock squared-off soft top?

    Good test using same tire set up! Thanks, I appreciate you making this video brotha! Do you think tire choice has the biggest impact on overall road noise?

    • @TacticalJK
      @TacticalJK  4 роки тому

      Thanks so much, I hope you found it helpful😀 I would agree with that for sure! My mud tires were a constant loud drone in both test, and with regular road tires I’m sure both would have been much quieter. But once you hit 70+ in the soft top, wind noise quickly overwhelms the noise of the tires😬(super loud)

    DUDE! excellent video! I just switched to a soft top last week and can confirm what you've reported is accurate! I do daily my JK but rarely go over 65. wind noise "buffeting" is very comparable to my old Hard top at that speed. Where I seem to hear the most noise is up at the top of the window, more specifically in each of the corners. I was thinking... dynomat or similar product could possibly reduce that wind noise.. Just a thought though.

      Thanks! And @TheLuke, I gotta disagree! That soft top takes a while to remove from the jeep, and then the hard top would have taken forever as well. Wheels were easy!

    Do you know of any windshields that could deaden the sound on the soft top? I literally have the same 08 with the same top and anything above 65 is so annoying.

    Tires make the difference.. just get highway tires if you're rolling on the highway..

    • @TacticalJK
      @TacticalJK  2 роки тому +1

      Tires definitely contribute, but my main issue was wind noise with the soft top, not the tire noise. Unfortunately, I didn’t get a chance to test road tires for the video!
