I was in the Army when this came out and they played the hell out of it in the German clubs! The dance floor would be PACKED and everybody was dancing in a way that would've made Prince blush! 😂

@@DeAnne1233 I was in Mannheim at Spinelli Barracks. I was an 88M so I went everywhere, Berlin included. Germany was so much fun that I almost re-enlisted just to stay there, but there's no place like home. 😁
@@Dirtcake71 I hear ya. Dad was stationed there in the Army (Master Sergeant @ EOO/EEO) from ‘87-‘91. I saw Reagan’s speech and attended the 3 day concert in Berlin (Genesis, Bowie, Eurythmics, Bruce Hornsby, Paul Young). My weekends always included an U-bahn to the Kudam or the Wannsee. I graduated at Olympic Stadium. It was the best time with the best music and the best place to be a young adult. It sounds like you also had a great experience in Germany. Nice to meet a kindred spirit. 🤝
The extended version is the best. More rapping (by Prince), more lyrics.. just a fun track.

Listen, this is a brilliant song in the video is brilliant the dancing everything about this song is truly amazing!! I’m a little biased though because I’m 54 I grew up listening to Prince. He was everything to me. I had his posters all over my room. I freaking love this man.

I came here to tell you exactly what everyone else did 😂🤣😂 He literally performed this video on stage......AND KILLED IT!!! That was when artists as big as him, MJ, Janet would turn an awards show performance into a mini concert. He killed that performance. NOBODY was expecting him to do on stage what he did live on stage.
Prince didn't seem to like rap when it first caught on, but Questlove (Amir Thompson), who's considered the definitive Prince expert said Prince was hip hop, before hip hop was a thing. I don't know much about that - or rap, but I've always loved this groove!
Prince was a Rap fan and on a few songs he Rapped. He Rapped on "My Name is Prince". He also low key dissed Michael Jackson on that one.
Hahaha that's the one where he say You must become a Prince before you're King anyway!
Though I'd been into Prince since the second album and had seen him live 9 times, it's cool seeing new ears discover this musical genius. May he continue to R.I.P

Went to a concert back in 1979 where Prince opened for Rick James. His first hit was my favorite Prince song of all times. I can't remember the official name of it but it was called the Orgasm Song.
I was in a parking garage at the Minneapolis Airport when this song came on the radio. Had to stop everything to listen to it in the rental car before my flight home. It was like Prince saying, "see ya again soon" before I flew home.

Part of the problem with original videos is that these songs are a lot older than we sometimes realize. You can get remastered versions of the audio, but I am pretty sure the videos are as they were, so the sound quality isn't we we are used to today.
I used to watch MTV for hours just to see this video come on three or four times. It was number one video for many weeks.
There is a 10 minute version with more lyrics and Rosie scats. The video is supposed to resemble the movie Caligula.

I was boarding a plane in Seattle and saw some dudes going into First Class. I was like, "They look familiar." Then I was like, "That's the dudes from Prince's group (some of the dudes in this video)."
