I'm 57, and I listened to August & Everything After probably, realistically 5000 times & just love it more & more everytime. One of my all time favorite bands! Great video!
Great find - saw Counting Crows in a small bar in Frankfurt. Among the most talented singer, song writers of our generation. This is what talent looks like.
Great music; great times! Life changes as we grow and understand it best but this moment remains forever… great music! Great era in time, nice to know it was shared to be reminiscent of today.
And to just think, at this time in music, this great band was considered the 'pop music' of the day. What a time to have been alive! Long live the crows!
To witness it on video years later could you imagine being there when it happened how in sync at quite another level that the mere mortal has no comprehension
my favorite Crows era, all original members, Dan on mando, no overcrowding the stage with guitars, just simple and Adam singing, not getting too poetic and scat vocalizing.
countingcrows123 Dan is close enough to original that he was on their first tour, plus there is actually a "need" for him being that there are leads and solos. There are rarely any times a third guitar is even necessary and it just muddies the sound up. Adam constantly "poetically states" lyrics rather than sing the actual beautiful melodies he invented for the songs, so to me, they are a classic example of overproduction in the place of the original talent. Don't get me wrong, I get that artists hate to bore themselves playing the same songs over and over the same exact way, but in this case, Adam's original vocal parts have been untouched for so long that either he probably forgets how he sang it or he's just trying way too hard to be artistic. I think it would actually be MORE refreshing to hear the songs as they once were. Adam was given a immense gift in his voice and yet he chooses not to use it, which does piss off a lot of previous fans like myself. Just not into it these days...
You say the original vocal parts but even he says that the album versions everyone knows and loves are just the interpretation he was feeling THAT day. They were never necessarily written that way.. every day is different, but only one can make the album. That is the complete opposite definition of "overproduced." When something's overproduced it's the addition of effects to make something have more appeal. That's the opposite of what they do. They do what they wanna do. Have you heard them lately live? Honestly he sings songs closer to the original than he has in years. They're better than ever right now.
countingcrows123 I'll have to check out their latest concerts, I'm going off what I saw a few years back when I saw them live and some recent videos. And I don't buy the whole, "it's what he was feeling that day". If you listen to the rare B-side tracks like the original "Omaha" or "Shallow Days" acoustic, the melodies Adam sang on the final production version of both those songs are extremely close. He barely changed anything. I'm an artist myself, and certainly you always leave room for creativity when in the studio, but you also must plan and structure a song. It's not just a wing, not to mention, you've most likely been playing that song gigging out for quite some time before it's ready to be recorded. What I mean by overproduced is not that Adam's voice is overproduced in any way, I was referring to the fact that there are 3-4 guys playing guitar on any given song. Immergluck hogs the stage any chance he can get and just doesn't fit the vibe of the band at all. Dave is my favorite member for his simplicity and tact in his songwriting and he's basically shoved in the back of the stage somewhere when he's the guy that wrote practically ever hit they had alongside Adam. It used to just be those two. So, "overproduction" as in way too many guitars to achieve a thick sound, when they sounded just fine, and as full, with just Dave and Dan. You can hear so much more of the subtleties come out with more space to play with. In an interview, Dave even says that he has had to change his playing just to stand out sonically onstage because there are 2 other guys competing for precious air waves. I will certainly check out their newer performances though now that you said that.
Saw this on TV back then, loved '4 White Stallions' right away. It wasn't released officially until 2002, and when it did, it had an awfully kitschy country guitar in the front of the mix that totally spoiled the song. (Gotta admit it's kind of kitschy to begin with, but that guitar pushes it over the edge for me.) Glad I finally stumbled upon this version. Thanks for uploading.
Thanks for the post. Incredible to see these guys so fresh. Does anybody have a version I can download of Ghost Train from VH1 Storytellers? I'd give anything to have that video/audio, please. I'm struggling!!!
I agree I think with age Adam May of gotten lazy with his singing. This above WAS his prime in life! Now-He’s older, on meds and probably not in the best shape. All of that takes its toll but I truly miss this Adam If I could travel back in time I would travel back to 1994 in a heartbeat 💓
I watched something were they argued a lot as a band and steve was a common denominator. Doescstudik work Nashville I think. Saw interview ben brought more punk sensibility
also i think the telecaster guitarist (dan?) really messed up the bands sound with his bluesy solo playing all over the songs. i loved that it was so sparse on august and everyhing after
Hey, What's new?! Saw you were a fan of this awesome music and thought you might enjoy my original songs. Mind checking out my channel and letting me know what you think? Hope you like! -Matt MacKelcan

What a time to have been alive!
Long live the crows!
The decay of modern pop, starting in the late 90s has been sadly stunning to witness.
Great observation.
This "A Murder of One" version is breathtaking. They have grown a lot but they have also been great ever since.
I so wish I could have been old enough to see them back at this time. One of the greatest poets ever and he was so handsome! 🥰
😏 💋🏹✨
I am speechless...I have never "seen" Margery preformed...you have made my life complete...thank you...awesomeness
What a song. So gutted they never put it on an album.
Check out counting crows live in Rome 1994 also...

Aw. Beautiful renditions of the music I grew up on. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you... this is so badass. Check the date - May 94 Mr Jones peaked on charts... the rest of this album speaks volume...
To witness it on video years later could you imagine being there when it happened how in sync at quite another level that the mere mortal has no comprehension
Just so wonderful they were .

My favorite Margery version live and in color! WOW!
my favorite Crows era, all original members, Dan on mando, no overcrowding the stage with guitars, just simple and Adam singing, not getting too poetic and scat vocalizing.
i will stand behind what you have said.
They're so much better live now though. They have really grown.. and technically Dan is not an original member ;)

35:00 Rain King - Amazing!

Band such ahead of their time
I knew this would be good when it opened up with four white stallions by the Tender Mercies

He does a lot less talk-singing here! Such a talented vocalist.
I agree

"Hey, you're the singer in Dave Bryson's band!"
Good show.
Wow 1994.
I love the way he's singing here and the band is always good but damn the tempo is so damn slow, it's like watching it in 0.75 speed.
Great footage! Takes me back:) bring back the 90s yo: )
But where the bloody hell is ‘Round here?????’
So 90's
*****
I didn't said it was bad. I love 90's music. And I agree that current popular music sucks.
Wow, what a fantastic find! Did you film this Mark? Amazing.
danieljohnsonfilms amazing version ofamo1
i love alot of music but 93&94
were the 1st time i actually heard music.
super cool.i remember yrs.ago.hearing this was on vhs.never thought i would actually see this.I truly thank u.
I didn't recognize him at first. lol
I didnt know the song "4 white stalions" is an old song. I mean, it belongs to hard candy album (2000??2001??)
they toured on that album in 2003/04. that's the second time I saw them.
There's only 80 comments I don't know what else to say after that
where is the audio?? its silent.
steve was good.so was ben.
Do you know why Steve left? Both drummers really inspired me. I'd say Steve was more technical but Ben just killed it on Satellites!
I watched something were they argued a lot as a band and steve was a common denominator. Doescstudik work Nashville I think. Saw interview ben brought more punk sensibility

i wonder if adam had a tired night or if he was just this withdrawn at the beginning of the band.
i saw them live a few months after this show and adam walked off stage inbetween songs and barely spoke a word all night
Long a- gonna pin u down b4 i go
Don’t denie me
Eh toi

He absolutely butchered Mr Jones. Even right at the very beginning they sucked live.
