We dont live in houses in the Keys. We live outdoors. We sleep in houses and clean up and thats about it. Dont need much square footage.
I love how sweet you two are together! I bought a Nature Coast Florida canal-front home that leads out to The Gulf, and maintenance on the boat is ongoing ----but worth it. It was always my dream as a kid to live on the waterfront. Congratulations on living your dream.

I'm a long time Keys resident, 44 years. I was just hit by Ian, my house, on the water, did well but this is the worst I have ever endured from a hurricane. I'm ready to go back home. I lived on Big Pine and then Summerland (Summerland Cove Isles).

Great video, nice job on the rebuild. We are part-time residents in Key Largo, we bought a condo which was suppose to be our winter residents, but for the last year it has been used as vacation rental property. People are willing to drop $5,000 a week just to vacation in the Florida Keys so it's pretty much a no - brainer......

I have yet to visit the keys but I am planning on a trip down there,I’m in Northern Ohio and I hate it,I’m 55 and have had six back surgeries and a total knee replacement on my right knee,I Love Florida and am planning on a move there for the weather and because it is the most beautiful place I’ve ever seen

I've been a huge fan of your videos and have been a subsriber for a while now. I just returned from my first trip to the Keys. I lodged in Grassy Key, and I loved the neighborhood. Everyone down there was so friendly. I'd hit Publix for ice and beer, go to Sombrero for some sunlight and then go to Keys Fisheries for the best seafood I've ever had. I even got to witness a turtle release. My only complaint would be the chickens trying to bite me in the Publix lot and the $9 I had to spend for 18 eggs in the store. The prices at the grocery store were the only prices that were obnoxious. I'd say everything else was reasonable. I can't wait to return with the family. Thank you for the content, and congratulations on your new purchase.

Hey! you two. How great to see your smiling faces again. I have not been good at keeping up right now, so I am glad I did not miss too much from you. Love your little house and can't wait to see what is next for you with the Marathon house. My sister is coming to stay with me for the holidays and I have to prepare for that. It is miserable here in PA. Rain, cold, and I heard that it is all to get worse later this week. OH! to be in warm weather.

Hi guys. Thanks for the great videos. I just love the palm trees I’m your yard. I live in Maryland on the Chesapeake bay. I visit the keys once in a while. I always wanted to buy a small piece of land there to put my toy hauler trailer. Maybe I should talk to you all to see if people do that down there.

I have lived there before, from Boca, to Florida City on the mainland. And up and down the Keys when I worked in the Caribbean for the government… but I actually enjoy living in Georgia better, and just visiting Florida.
We do love Georgia but love the Keys weather more as we get older.

The house looks good; very functional. I owned an elevated house in Port Aransas, Texas and discovered that there was a lot of condensation under the floors from the AC unit operating in the humidity. Have they figured out hw to deal with that? My question is regarding institutional financing for a house bought in a condition like yours; is it available or do you go with hard money and then refinance when the project is done? Have you sold any liveaboard boat slips down there?
Lending is typically not the problem because the land is worth so much compared to a home like this. Now, insurance on the other hand can be difficult and of course if you can't get insurance you can't get a loan. Every property is different for sure.

Hey guys we have been watching your videos a while , we moved from North Carolina to Venice Florida in 2022 . We want to move to Keywest next . My wife is a realtor . We’re both licensed but I don’t work in real estate I work an 8-5 job to ensure we make ends meet since we just moved this year. Everything has been great the move was a success praise God. That boat ramp would work just perfect if you use a trailer with rollers, but I know how you Americans hate those for some reason.
I just dip the tyres half way up their sides, hook the boat up and winch the boat up.
Also, on the plus side, the car that I pull the boat up with stays on dry land instead of being on the ramp that may be slippery.
I know it is hard to tell by the video but even if you could get the trailer in the water half way up the tires the canal is too narrow to get the boat in the water on our ramp. You really just have to be here to see it. 😉

I find that you two school teachers have found your spot in the keys! I would love to live down in the Keys, but have a school teacher son and news media son, with a construction son up here in the Mid West of Northern Ohio and three grandchildren up here! ! Just saying that it would be hard to leave our three boys and our three grand children in Ohio if we moved!
That would be too hard, but maybe a second home one day for all to enjoy!

Cape Coral on a wider private canal 2500 sq/ft $300-400 K. 20 min to the Gulf. 15 min to I-75 ... Why go to the Keys? Florida on the water with boat steps away is almost gone at any price. The Keys is FAR away travel though. After Hurricane Ian, some of the Fort Myers people are selling. Might be an option. Cape Coral is really hot now.

Fill you in on why we would pay what we did for a house on the water or not on the water?
Looking down your canal, I didn't see any sailboats. Is that because of a bridge to cross under or shallow water, or just that none of your neighbors are into sailing? Does sailboat access jack up the home cost significantly?
I'm hoping to get a 42-45' cat with about a 24' beam and 4' draft. Current boat is a 31' tri with 22' beam but folds to 9'. But I've heard year round sailboat insurance is getting nearly impossible in price and availability in Florida.
The canal depths vary at different locations in the community. There are no bridges so mast clearance would not be an issue, but I would think control depth would be for a keel boat. We have boats in the 50 foot range go out from here, but I can't think of seeing a sailboat in the neighborhood.

I'm not too concerned about the price of the real estate. I'd really like to know how long it will be above sea level?
Only time will tell about sea levels, we will just have to enjoy what we have and see how things go 😀

So about $1000 a sq ft for a small lot? How much is insurance? My boat launch is like yours but I have an easy loader trailer. Boat rolls right off and back on easy. I live off of Puget Sound in Olalla Cove deer hunt at home and salmon fishing across the street. Cold is getting to me. Huge home for me 2 story 2000 sq ft 3 bd 3 bath attatched garage and 2400 sq ft new shop in back and only worth 600k. Insurance 100 a month, taxes 400 a month. Cant afford to move I think

@@GablesOnTheGo Moved here in 75 and tired of the rain and 40 deg temps. Almost 70 yrs old and the last 5 yrs just inside with the heat on. Our summer starts in july and ends in Sept. Not fun anymore. Can afford to leave. Some day I hope
