What is the normal pupil size inside a lighted room/and the normal pupil size in the dark? When you talk about relaxing, can you explain what the eye would be doing? Thank you so much. We truly appreciate your videos!!
Alice Kirshenbaum Hi! Normal pupil size varies by individual. Young, myopic, light colored eyes have the largest pupils. Older patients, those with dark colored eyes and hyperopes tend to have smaller pupils so, there isn’t really a “normal size” except the two pupils should be within 1 mm in size of one another.
Alice Kirshenbaum when I say the pupils relax it means they get a tiny bit darker. Normal pupils will constrict briskly to a minimum size the slightly relax (get a bit larger)
Alice Kirshenbaum Hello! An Argyle Robertson pupil will cause an abnormal or absent direct light response but does constrict with accommodation. An Afferent Pupil does not constrict but dilates. An Adie’s Tonic Pupil doesn’t constrict normally to light and the pt will have more than 1 mm difference in pupil size (anisocoria)

Thank you for your video. What would be the reasons for an abnormal contsriction response?
