They definitely did a good job linking features with body parts in this game. I recall it also adds color once you regain your eyes. PS: NVM, Matt makes it to that point 😅
It's pretty neat - it covers a huge amount of story from the manga very methodically, even if a lot of environments are bleak and empty grainy sandpits.
That's because it was long before the remake anime from 3 years ago. And even before that, it was still one of those hidden gems that were some adapted japanese games.
@@faralteezee4474 Well comparing the other 2 well known Tezuka series like Astro Boy and Black Jack, Dororo never got too many animes so it comes to a shock that it exists
I'm just going to start saying "I can save the game here!" when I arrive at random places...once the pandemic is over and I can arrive at random places.
I absolutely adored this, I’d love to see more of it. Extremely fun to see this Ultra Cheesy Edition of Dororo. Dororo’s absolutely stupid little punches... god I love this kid. Also the fact my dude was missing his Hippocampus nearly left me on the floor.
Man I wish I would've kept this game when I had it would love to play it again. The story goes some crazy places and the ending is pretty satisfying! Also does anyone remember Brave Fencer Musashi? That was another hidden gem!
Yes I knew Dororo was an old series, I still didnt know it had a videogame, localized at that. Edit: Yo, regaining features of the game as you unlock body parts is a pretty neat mechanic.
I recommended this game back when you played Genji. Now here we are! I feel much like a young Matt McMuscles when he suggested that one Maxamillion Dood take a look at a little gem known as Hades...
Hyakkimaru was actually born with only a base for his head and a whole torso in the original manga so his genitalia was thankfully untouched by the demon.
Oh, I remember this game. I was already a big fan of the original manga, so I was so hyped for the game and it was pretty fun. But now it's even more fun with Matt's narration. XD Come on, Matt! Don't leave us hangin' and collect all the body parts!
This game killed two of my Dualshock 2 controllers because dash is mapped to L3. Turns out, you need to dash. A lot. What really hurts is that they were ceramic white controllers matching the PS2. How was I to know that a few years later they'd be incredibly expensive and hard to find and I wouldn't just be able to pick up cheap(ish) replacements anymore. Great game though.
I remember loving this game back in the day. The story was bananas and the controls were solid. The final stage is a long ass gauntlet were you run around a huge maze like stage where you have to beat between 4-8 bosses to finish getting the last of your body parts for the end game boss fight that was hard as hell and there was no saving until you finished the stage. Props for doing a video on it. 🍻
I don't usually comment, but I'm actually super jazzed someone I watch played this. I got my copy way back when it came out, still have it (good thing too, had no idea it goes for so much now) and I've beaten it twice. Granted, I had no idea what an Osamu Tezuka, a Dororo or a Blood was (I was 13) but the whole "body parts as upgrade system" thing was enough to catch my eye and I did complete it from front to back. It's not some five-star classic of a game, but it is fun pretty much the whole way through and definitely oozes that "late PS2 Japanese action game" air Matt was talking about. Since then I've seen the movie, which isn't the worst thing ever, and watched the 60's anime, which is surprisingly solid if very formulaic. Still have to watch the new anime everyone was raving about.
When the recent anime adaptation came out this game got uncovered from my memory. Dood your really playing a lot of my childhood. I love this game but the 2019 adaptation made a lot of good changes to the story.
I remember playing this around 2007/8 🤔 twas fun and the manga is good too. Not a lot of japanese/samurai games back in the day. Anything was welcome, at least for me 😔 Fun fact: The mangaka who made the original artworks for this game is actually Hiroaki Samura, maybe as a tribute to how much Dororo had an influence on Mugen no Juunin 🤔😃
noiceeeee I bought this when my store had like 3 copies forever ago and they were only going for $50 at the time. The game is interesting and fun. It doesn't break anything but it was a solid experience when I did my play through of it.
yooooo I never knew there was a Dororo game! Pretty sure I checked out all the volumes my local library had of the original Dororo a dozen times. I would love to see more of this playthough, it's delightfully cheesey.
I would like to see more of this. Dororo is such a weird animal. Some of the darkest writing of Tezuka's career but it prominently features this annoying child character like we're back in astro boy. Really strange.
I played the SHIT outta this back in the day! It was such a good game especially for when it came out!! Waaaaay ahead of it's time. If they announced a new one or an updated reboot I'd buy two copies (if same dev/team/ect.) on principle alone.
Which is rather unlucky because this Ps2 game wouldn't have the same feeling than a adaptation of the actual anime reboot. ( but you get no chance of being adapted into a video game if Bandai gets no interest in you nowadays. )
The way it integrates Hyakkimaru's quest to regain his body parts into the gameplay is pretty clever. The game starts off in monochrome and no sound, so naturally getting the eyes and the ears makes things clearer
Was fortunate to borrow this from a friend way back when, it's a great game but some of the environments get obtuse in terms of what you gotta do sometimes. I didnt notice how cheesy the localisation was though! Please keep playing!
The QTE for the final boss is so long you pretty much have to use the sword that makes OTEs easier to go through it. Basically 48 button prompts inside a small time window. Only reason I never beat the game.
I had heard that this was based off of the Dororo manga (and I presume its story is similar to the recent anime) but I now know "based" means verbatim translation. Curious why they didn't call it Dororo.
I played this last year and quite enjoyed it, even though it was quite clunky and towards the end I just ran past all the normal enemies because you got nothing fit for it. Also loved that Jen from Power Rangers Time Force is one of the voice actors in this!
I remember seeing a review of this game on x play as a kid ( I think ) for the longest time I've always wanted to play it but never could find a game store that sold a copy never knew that there was a video game based on Dororo till now.
LOVE this game I still have a used copy of it. You should def play all the way thru and see if you can beat the Final Demon with out use the Quad Slash Sword...
Fights a demon: you’ve regained 1 Testicle
Fights another demon: You've regained another testicle.
You're gonna have to keep them in your pocket till you find the scrotum demon though

I would like to point out that the narrator is Adam Harrington, aka Bigby Wolf from The Wolf Among Us.
Oh I love this game, when you unlock controller rumble after regaining your nervous system I was so on board
whoooooa!
They definitely did a good job linking features with body parts in this game. I recall it also adds color once you regain your eyes.
PS: NVM, Matt makes it to that point 😅
Please continue this game. This is very fun to watch.
Same!
It's pretty neat - it covers a huge amount of story from the manga very methodically, even if a lot of environments are bleak and empty grainy sandpits.
Previously on Hyakimaru gets Trolled...
Would love to see you keep playing this game. This game has so much of that early to mid 2000's ps2 charm.
It was definitely a hidden gem for me.
I never knew there was a Dororo game
That's because it was long before the remake anime from 3 years ago.

Lol, it was the opposite for me. I never knew that Blood Will Tell was adapted from a manga before they announced the remake.
@@faralteezee4474 Well comparing the other 2 well known Tezuka series like Astro Boy and Black Jack, Dororo never got too many animes so it comes to a shock that it exists
This was actually my first exposure to Dororo.
I said those exact words when I saw the title card too, Emoyo.
I'm just going to start saying "I can save the game here!" when I arrive at random places...once the pandemic is over and I can arrive at random places.

I played the other musashi that was on the ps2 that was also a fun game played it twice lol
I mostly remember that because it gave you a phoenix (or was it the blue phoenix) in Monster Rancher 2.
Yes I knew Dororo was an old series, I still didnt know it had a videogame, localized at that.

This feels like the nightmare section when you sleep in the prison in mgs3
I love how this dude knew what his voice sounded like in his head before he ever heard it lol
@@xXSupahXFlyXx In the manga and anime, he was born for like a second before everything was stolen from him lol
Hyakkimaru was actually born with only a base for his head and a whole torso in the original manga so his genitalia was thankfully untouched by the demon.
That's awfully nice of them.
FINALLY SOMEONE SHOWS THIS GODDAMN GAME SOME LOVE
For the hold triangle technique, I greatly enjoyed having the next line on the bottom. Years of rhythm games prepared me for it, haha.
Man it's weird hearing Hyakkimaru talk this much.
Again .. literally playing my favorite games in my PS2 catalog. Onimusha - blood will tell this Matt guy is the homie
I actually beat this game and completed it. It also have a manga and a movie. Loved this game. The more you play it, the better it gets
19:40 You already said “for now” so that means you have to make this a series. No take backsies Matt.
I remember the Xplay review for this and how rare it ended up being, but never realized Dororo was the same thing.
Oh, I remember this game. I was already a big fan of the original manga, so I was so hyped for the game and it was pretty fun. But now it's even more fun with Matt's narration. XD

Dororo 2019’s theme is fire. Going to listen to that right now lol
Hyakkimaru the samurai version of Edward Scissorhands.

I’d be super down for more of this. Gotta see what all the body parts do :D
Thank god PS2 emulation made this game playable as of last year, it used to always crash on startup with horrible graphical glitches.
This- this is absolutely wonderful. I need to see the rest of this game
Hey Matt!! I recommend you watch the Dororo anime, it's really good, and it will help you understand the story better :)
Big fan of the channel and all the videos mr. muscles thank you for the videos.

The last boss is traumatizing. I still remember I challeged it so many times because I couldn't get the number of hits I needed to finish it off.

holy crap, there was a game?
