- Is this the first action RPG on the Famicom? Absolutely not! No matter what it says on the box, it's definitely not an RPG. But is it a good shooter?
Famidaily is my attempt to catalog all of the commercially released Famicom games.
This game just won 3rd place on a nintendo poll for "what comes to your mind when you think of rpg" on the famicom
I’m probably one of the few fans of Galg having put many hours into this game. I’m actually weirdly obsessed with Galg and thrilled to see it get ANY attention. I find it impossibly (and sadistically) difficult but honestly it’s quite impressive for a console shooter this old. It’s definitely not an RPG but I like the branching paths and sense of discovery when you discover it’s secrets. Like Star Force I enjoy the challenge and trying to best my high score.
Great breakdown of the game! Most videos I’ve watched they never even make it past the canyon or give the game the slightest chance.
I guess every game has to have a fan. 😋
One of the goals of Famidaily is to give some these games that people bounce off of a fair shake. Of course, the time constraints of making a video a day pushes against that, but I try.

The max number of parts I got from this was around 54, starting a third loop. Gotta be a masochist or something, to play it nonstop for many hours, on many loops, to get to the end of this. I still liked the game somewhat when younger, thus how I made this far. But I was feeling really tired at that point, lol
maybe they thought it was an RPG because clearly it's gonna take 50 hours to complete? I had heard about some of the sadistic parts of this game... if I want a shmup-RPG I'll just play Guardic Gaiden/The Guardian Legend (which I own already anyway)

I do not. They tend to be incredibly rare and extremely collectable.
