I have not worn makeup except , when it was a must , anyway I'm 63 , I have been running into some friends from school , they had full face of makeup , and a hole bunch of wrinkles , they looked ,,10 years older than me , makeup is no good for your face , I wash mine with ponds cold cream , it works wonders your skin will be soft , clear , and glowing , ☮️

I have never wore makeup 99% of my life. It's very rare for me to wear makeup. I might wear lip gloss or lipstick sometimes since I do love lip glosses and lipsticks. But other than that, I never wear makeup. I honestly feel much more beautiful without makeup. I also feel more confident without makeup. I'm very grateful that I was never brainwashed when I was a little girl to feel that I must wear makeup to feel beautiful or pretty. I always taught myself to love who I am and how god created me..
Many girls don’t wear make up, people usually wear make up on occasions. I find it annoying that people assume women who wears make up everyday is brainwashed or insecure. When I wake up in the morning and do my make up y’all aren’t the first thing on my mind, y’all aren’t even on my mind, period. I’ve always loved make up since I was kid. I find it enjoyable to paint my face and look different. Not everything is about you. I get this almost everyday and it’s the most annoying thing to hear. I always get “who are you trying to impress?” “I don’t have time for make up.” “That’s a lot of work, I need my sleep.” All of that is cool, but I do my make up cause I enjoy it and if you don’t like it that’s also fine. I feel beautiful with and without my make up, at the end of the day it matters what’s good for it and not for others.

I only wear makeup about 4 days out of the month and I keep it minimal. I'm 31 and people think I'm a teen. I think makeup damages and ages skin faster.

I remember on my very first professional job I looked too young and people had no confidence in my abilities so I did things to make myself look older like the makeup and wearing glasses and stuff such as that. No makeup saved my face. I have no acne now. Just wash, moisturize, slap on the sunscreen, and go. On the heels of my last ditch effort to get rid of my acne, after the creams, cleansers, diy's, diet change, no dairy.... I gave up and got rid of the makeup. Low and behold... that was all I needed to do. 6 months later my skin is great.

I completely disagree but I enjoy your sentiment. And I do think we should cheer each other on but had she not made a thing of it she would just be a celebrity who went barefaced and we would all be in awe b/c she's "still" beautiful. She is so because it costs a lot of money to look that good without makeup and you also have to win at genetics. I highly doubt if she had acne or a scar or pigmentation struggles you'd ever see her without makeup and she certainly wouldn't be going around bragging about how freeing it is. It's also insulting to those of us who use makeup as a form of self-expression when she talks about makeup being so closely tied to being pretty. I think I'm beautiful without makeup on but I prefer to wear it because it's part of my self-expression much like the clothes I wear. I rarely go without wearing stylish clothing that fits my personality and it has everything to do with what others think. In a good way! You get a good idea of who I am before you even speak to me because I wear it on the outside and I love that. So, good for her for going through a journey but I don't think we need to pity her or place her on a pedestal either.
I stopped wearing make up daily for 3 months, but I still put it on for special occasions. What I found was that my skin started clearing up and glowing, and my time getting ready was cut in half so I was able to sleep more. I didn’t realize how freeing it was to be make-up free until I started to wear it less. I learned to love my skin and have less anxiety about “looking smudgy or caked” throughout the day.

We're also pressured to conform especially when we have to go to a social event or a wedding where every woman has loads of make up on. My brother's wedding is coming up and every woman in my family has already made appointments with make up artists...they made a reservation for me too and I don't know how to get out of it -_-

I love makeup, I love playing with it, and love the artistic side of it, and creating different looks. But if you can’t go out without a face of makeup then I think you do have an issue. You should be able to go to the grocery store and feel comfortable in your own skin. I often play with makeup when I’m at home but going out I wear makeup literally 1-2 a week on the weekends when I go to church or something for fun not because I feel like I need it.
Men in general don't wear makeup so from an equality point of view why don't women ditch the make up and be who they are without all that gunk on them that has usually cost animals their lives or severe torture. well, make up is just a tool. It's not inherently bad or good. There are actually instances where it can help you. Just think of the people with acne scars or something like that. Putting foundation can make them less self aware ( though it's not their fault if they had acne). If it can improve your self esteem, who cares? It shouldn't be an imposition. Recently, a girl from London was let go for refusing to wear high heels at work (she wanted to wear ballerinas). That's oppressing as well. I, for example, don't feel that comfortable wearing suit trousers. I'd pay to be able to wear more comfortable trousers, but if you work in big companies (bar Google or Facebook), you get criticised if you don't.

it is very freeing leaving the house with a natural face. You can be 100% natural and be beautiful! You don't have to hide behind makeup and fakeness! love the no makeup movement. i’m usually not wearing makeup, always have been. but for a while this last year, i would start to have anxiety attacks over not having any makeup on. alicia keys, along with other aspects of my life, showed me that i don’t have to cover up anymore. now i’ll wear it if i want, but it’s when i choose and society cannot choose for me.
It’s interesting how most men don’t have to use makeup and still be accepted as normal but people react so shock when a girl stops using make up. I remember everyone had a crush on my sister growing up but on occasion when she wore no make up guys told her off that she looked different without makeup.

I don't believe it's the same wearing no make-up as a 'regular' person or as a celebrity, I think as famous person in hollywood (where almost everybody does not get out of the house without make-up on, even the regular people),it's more of a big deal because there's even more pressure of 'looking perfect'... Alicia has a beautiful face, always has. But lets keep it real, anybody with an eye for makeup can see that she's wearing tinted moisturizer or serum which technically is not makeup but classified as skincare. Especially at the Mtv awards, she had a glowy tinted moisturizer on ,for sure.
Yes but skincare is just caring for your skin. Everyone should be using moisturizer, serum and body oils and sunscreen and all of that because skin taken care of is healthy skin which is in turn 'happy skin'. Plus her glowy skin could be a result of oily skin, not necessarily a dewy tinted moisturizer. Also some people have fantastic complexions, and don't even need any tinted moisturizer. I know I could easily go without any form of moisturizer and look just as glowing and fresh faced as she is. Just saying.
I agree. Her skincare journey has taken years to get to where she is today. She has had notoriously bad skin - acne and hyper-pigmentation being two of her main issues. It's great she feels comfortable walking around with no make-up in 2016... I have observed that wasn't always the case and she needed foundation and powder to cover the acne and discoloration issues. I love the skincare is just caring for your skin... neglecting "care" can lead to bad results.
I have good skin too and always take care of it and know plenty about skincare so you're both missing the point of my comment. I know people's skin can look good makeup free cause mine usually does too. However, there is a difference between good skin with nothing on it and skin with something of colour and texture on it and my opinion is that there is something tinted on her face. Also if she had all that acne in the past, then more of her skin would be pockmarked and scarred but we dont see any of that so in addition to that, she may have gotten laser resurfacing...but I still think she's got something tinted on. Just my opinion!
+Darima2 I think we're just using different language to arrive to the same consensus. Bad acne doesn't always lead to scarring and marks... which is where your point about good skincare is well recieved. It takes years to recover fully from scarring, hyperpigmentation if a person has suffered from long-term acne and skin issues. Alicia Keys is an example of that. A good skincare regime used consistently allows a person to see the desired results. There are plenty of images online showcasing her skin issues early in her career and she's also spoken about it herself (Proactiv, etc.) Even I with dry skin, suffer from skin outbreaks due to environmental allergies. Maintaining a good skin care system minimizes the long-term issues and doesn't always lead to marks and scarring.
correct i had acne and i have no visible scars even without a scrap of make up. it depends on your skin type. if you have fine delicate skin the acne marks can only become visible in cold weather- like my sis- hers look like slight purple even blue marks on the skin around the cheeks, the jaw line and lower. but im fair with pale freckling and i dont have scars at all :)
As someone who has never worn makeup, I find it really cool that more and more women are realizing that makeup should be a choice, not a standard. If you want to wear it, that’s fine, but I personally feel better and more beautiful going without.

there's a subconscious competition with fellow females. women like attention and they don't like it when they don't get it. but they hate it a lot more when her competitors overtake them in getting the attention. that's where the fierce competitive nature come from and manifests in women's clothing, accessories and of course makeup. that's also why women make about 80% of household expenditure decisions despite contributing much lower than that in the household income. advertisement companies know this. so they are making more and more emotionally intriguing advertisements to lure females in.

I've always felt the same way. It's not about someone's complexion or the way someone looks with minimum makeup it's all about facial bone structure and how you let your beautiful energy and being shine. Anyone can look good with makeup. She's just tired of hiding and masquerading around as if she and other women have to constantly appease others. I totally get it but it's not a movement. Agreed. It really shows just how much people can be influenced by famous people such as things like this. I remember when she first stepped on the scene with the no make-up thing. All I can say was "okay" but now hearing the back story of why and how hollywood try to have you be somebody else makes sense. It is something to think about. Like why I can't be my authentic self? what is wrong with myself? Am I not good enough? We are constantly bombared as women to change something. I mean, nothing is wrong with change but when it becomes outer focused and your changing yourself to feel validated or accepted or that is what a person soley relies on then that is a problem because you did not get dressed for you. You got dressed and put on make up in hopes of nobody talking about you and because you spent that extra hour to look good and people noticed, it seems like oh wow! I wish I had so and so's body and face then people would notice. I am glad I don't do that now thank god! It took practice for me to stop worrying about what others feel and think about me. When you begin to self care for you, buy shoes for you, buy clothes you like for you and not because it is a trend, even make up for you, put it on without showing anybody. Be in your house and be like "I'm gong to play in my make-up today" Do it for just because. It feels weird at first because you might think "Why the hell am i putting on make-up if I am not going anywhere?" You say "Because it is fun and It feels pretty dammit!" Miguel Ventura just a average woman without make up nothing more. She doesn't look really perfect without late be honest just normal and like ill the woman she looks better with make up. But I love it that she just does it.
I wasn't too familiar with Alicia except for two songs - No One and This Girl is On Fire. Then I saw her on The Voice and thought about how fresh and natural she looked and that she definitely had more natural beauty than any of the other females who had been on the Voice and were always wearing heavy makeup. I love that Alicia is comfortable enough in her own skin to go natural. She is a good example for other young women to embrace their natural beauty.
I am 28 years old and the only time I wore heavy make up was during that time I joined a school-based competition in elementary and during my sister's weeding. I don't know why but I don't have this "urgent" need to put make up whenever I go out or hang-out with friends. I am not physically attractive too, it's just that I believe that make up gives off a superficial beauty. I was called ugly one time for not wearing make up but instead of losing my self-esteem it made me realize how shallow people really are. So I am with Alicia Keys. I am not anti make-up also I have no problem with girls wearing it, my only stand is that we should not based our perception of beauty on how colorful one's face is.

Yeah....she wears no makeup after getting her skin cleared up. We all saw her on the Proactiv commercials. And not all of us can afford the special skincare that she can. I'm teen girl and I have a bad skin but I'm trying eat healthy, sleep more, exercise and drinking water. I don't wear a makeup because I don't want to be depended on something and I like to be natural. I believe in my body and how I was born. Everyone is beautiful and no one should be telling you that you need to wear makeup to be beautiful and accepted. I don't understand the current society that women should wear makeup and men's doesn't have to. We are same people. So wear makeup if you want but if you doing it only because you think you must, don't let other people and society tells you that you are not beautiful enough, because you are so beautiful. 💜
The key is to go back on everything that has become the norm,,, back to Natural hair, back to being curvy, back to kitchen gardens, back to trifting and DIYs, back to tiny houses , back to organic foods, back to copious amounts of hair oils..... Now back to No make up ... What next world?

I have never wore makeup 99% of my life. It's very rare for me to wear makeup. I might wear lip gloss or lipstick sometimes since I do love lip glosses and lipsticks. But other than that, I never wear makeup. I honestly feel much more beautiful without makeup. I also feel more confident without makeup. I'm very grateful that I was never brainwashed when I was a little girl to feel that I must wear makeup to feel beautiful or pretty. I always taught myself to love who I am and how god created me..

Many girls don’t wear make up, people usually wear make up on occasions. I find it annoying that people assume women who wears make up everyday is brainwashed or insecure. When I wake up in the morning and do my make up y’all aren’t the first thing on my mind, y’all aren’t even on my mind, period. I’ve always loved make up since I was kid. I find it enjoyable to paint my face and look different. Not everything is about you. I get this almost everyday and it’s the most annoying thing to hear.
I always get “who are you trying to impress?”

No makeup saved my face. I have no acne now. Just wash, moisturize, slap on the sunscreen, and go. On the heels of my last ditch effort to get rid of my acne, after the creams, cleansers, diy's, diet change, no dairy.... I gave up and got rid of the makeup. Low and behold... that was all I needed to do. 6 months later my skin is great.

I completely disagree but I enjoy your sentiment. And I do think we should cheer each other on but had she not made a thing of it she would just be a celebrity who went barefaced and we would all be in awe b/c she's "still" beautiful. She is so because it costs a lot of money to look that good without makeup and you also have to win at genetics. I highly doubt if she had acne or a scar or pigmentation struggles you'd ever see her without makeup and she certainly wouldn't be going around bragging about how freeing it is. It's also insulting to those of us who use makeup as a form of self-expression when she talks about makeup being so closely tied to being pretty. I think I'm beautiful without makeup on but I prefer to wear it because it's part of my self-expression much like the clothes I wear. I rarely go without wearing stylish clothing that fits my personality and it has everything to do with what others think. In a good way! You get a good idea of who I am before you even speak to me because I wear it on the outside and I love that. So, good for her for going through a journey but I don't think we need to pity her or place her on a pedestal either.
She has a good dermatologist that money can by buy. Nobody remembers her in them proactiv commercials.
I stopped wearing make up daily for 3 months, but I still put it on for special occasions. What I found was that my skin started clearing up and glowing, and my time getting ready was cut in half so I was able to sleep more.
I didn’t realize how freeing it was to be make-up free until I started to wear it less. I learned to love my skin and have less anxiety about “looking smudgy or caked” throughout the day.

I love makeup, I love playing with it, and love the artistic side of it, and creating different looks. But if you can’t go out without a face of makeup then I think you do have an issue. You should be able to go to the grocery store and feel comfortable in your own skin. I often play with makeup when I’m at home but going out I wear makeup literally 1-2 a week on the weekends when I go to church or something for fun not because I feel like I need it.

well, make up is just a tool. It's not inherently bad or good. There are actually instances where it can help you. Just think of the people with acne scars or something like that. Putting foundation can make them less self aware ( though it's not their fault if they had acne). If it can improve your self esteem, who cares?
It shouldn't be an imposition. Recently, a girl from London was let go for refusing to wear high heels at work (she wanted to wear ballerinas). That's oppressing as well. I, for example, don't feel that comfortable wearing suit trousers. I'd pay to be able to wear more comfortable trousers, but if you work in big companies (bar Google or Facebook), you get criticised if you don't.

love the no makeup movement. i’m usually not wearing makeup, always have been. but for a while this last year, i would start to have anxiety attacks over not having any makeup on. alicia keys, along with other aspects of my life, showed me that i don’t have to cover up anymore. now i’ll wear it if i want, but it’s when i choose and society cannot choose for me.
It’s interesting how most men don’t have to use makeup and still be accepted as normal but people react so shock when a girl stops using make up. I remember everyone had a crush on my sister growing up but on occasion when she wore no make up guys told her off that she looked different without makeup.
Well yeah it would be easy to skip makeup if you have flawless skin like that.

I completely disagree. It's NOT easy to skip makeup, no matter how pretty people think you are. She said she was tired of hiding, and it sounds like she's trying to love herself for who she is. If you're right, though, that would mean people who DON'T look good without makeup would have a harder time being themselves. It takes courage; why take that away from her by imagining it's easy for her?
I don't believe it's the same wearing no make-up as a 'regular' person or as a celebrity, I think as famous person in hollywood (where almost everybody does not get out of the house without make-up on, even the regular people),it's more of a big deal because there's even more pressure of 'looking perfect'... So I do believe she's very brave, it's not exactly fair to say it's nothing special, it's a matter of perspective also. Well, that's just my opinion ^^

Alicia has a beautiful face, always has. But lets keep it real, anybody with an eye for makeup can see that she's wearing tinted moisturizer or serum which technically is not makeup but classified as skincare. Especially at the Mtv awards, she had a glowy tinted moisturizer on ,for sure.
Yes but skincare is just caring for your skin. Everyone should be using moisturizer, serum and body oils and sunscreen and all of that because skin taken care of is healthy skin which is in turn 'happy skin'. Plus her glowy skin could be a result of oily skin, not necessarily a dewy tinted moisturizer. Also some people have fantastic complexions, and don't even need any tinted moisturizer. I know I could easily go without any form of moisturizer and look just as glowing and fresh faced as she is. Just saying.
I agree. Her skincare journey has taken years to get to where she is today. She has had notoriously bad skin - acne and hyper-pigmentation being two of her main issues. It's great she feels comfortable walking around with no make-up in 2016... I have observed that wasn't always the case and she needed foundation and powder to cover the acne and discoloration issues. I love the skincare is just caring for your skin... neglecting "care" can lead to bad results.
I have good skin too and always take care of it and know plenty about skincare so you're both missing the point of my comment. I know people's skin can look good makeup free cause mine usually does too. However, there is a difference between good skin with nothing on it and skin with something of colour and texture on it and my opinion is that there is something tinted on her face. Also if she had all that acne in the past, then more of her skin would be pockmarked and scarred but we dont see any of that so in addition to that, she may have gotten laser resurfacing...but I still think she's got something tinted on. Just my opinion!
+Darima2 I think we're just using different language to arrive to the same consensus. Bad acne doesn't always lead to scarring and marks... which is where your point about good skincare is well recieved. It takes years to recover fully from scarring, hyperpigmentation if a person has suffered from long-term acne and skin issues. Alicia Keys is an example of that. A good skincare regime used consistently allows a person to see the desired results. There are plenty of images online showcasing her skin issues early in her career and she's also spoken about it herself (Proactiv, etc.) Even I with dry skin, suffer from skin outbreaks due to environmental allergies. Maintaining a good skin care system minimizes the long-term issues and doesn't always lead to marks and scarring.
correct i had acne and i have no visible scars even without a scrap of make up. it depends on your skin type. if you have fine delicate skin the acne marks can only become visible in cold weather- like my sis- hers look like slight purple even blue marks on the skin around the cheeks, the jaw line and lower. but im fair with pale freckling and i dont have scars at all :)
As someone who has never worn makeup, I find it really cool that more and more women are realizing that makeup should be a choice, not a standard. If you want to wear it, that’s fine, but I personally feel better and more beautiful going without.
People are really annoyed with her because her face is clear and isn't wearing makeup like most celebs do. Like damn leave her be because the ones who are complaining are the ones who don't wanna do jack nothing to keep their face 100% or just clear enough.

there's a subconscious competition with fellow females. women like attention and they don't like it when they don't get it. but they hate it a lot more when her competitors overtake them in getting the attention. that's where the fierce competitive nature come from and manifests in women's clothing, accessories and of course makeup. that's also why women make about 80% of household expenditure decisions despite contributing much lower than that in the household income. advertisement companies know this. so they are making more and more emotionally intriguing advertisements to lure females in.

In Jamaica, we dont really idolize the use of makeup, Most people walk the streets without makeup, and its not a big deal. I've always felt the same way. It's not about someone's complexion or the way someone looks with minimum makeup it's all about facial bone structure and how you let your beautiful energy and being shine. Anyone can look good with makeup. She's just tired of hiding and masquerading around as if she and other women have to constantly appease others. I totally get it but it's not a movement. Women before her have done this. Only difference is she has a bigger platform to speak up and "make a difference". That's all.
Agreed. It really shows just how much people can be influenced by famous people such as things like this. I remember when she first stepped on the scene with the no make-up thing. All I can say was "okay" but now hearing the back story of why and how hollywood try to have you be somebody else makes sense. It is something to think about. Like why I can't be my authentic self? what is wrong with myself? Am I not good enough? We are constantly bombared as women to change something. I mean, nothing is wrong with change but when it becomes outer focused and your changing yourself to feel validated or accepted or that is what a person soley relies on then that is a problem because you did not get dressed for you. You got dressed and put on make up in hopes of nobody talking about you and because you spent that extra hour to look good and people noticed, it seems like oh wow! "People think I look awsome today!" Okay. What if no one noticed or cared? I have been there. The first thing I thought to myself was Wow. still nobdy noticed? Then the crappy feeling came wow. I wish I had so and so's body and face then people would notice. I am glad I don't do that now thank god! It took practice for me to stop worrying about what others feel and think about me. When you begin to self care for you, buy shoes for you, buy clothes you like for you and not because it is a trend, even make up for you, put it on without showing anybody. Be in your house and be like "I'm gong to play in my make-up today" Do it for just because. It feels weird at first because you might think "Why the hell am i putting on make-up if I am not going anywhere?" You say "Because it is fun and It feels pretty dammit!" Nothing wrong with letting your inner child come out in those times. When you don't feel like getting dressed you no longer worry about what others think. If they have something to say about your look it is just them projecting their stuff on to you. They feel that they can't be that free so how dare you be that comfortable and free? When we practice this and it takes practice to to become inner focused and not worrying about what others think about us, it is a free feeling. It is like a get out of jail card for you mind. I wasn't too familiar with Alicia except for two songs - No One and This Girl is On Fire. Then I saw her on The Voice and thought about how fresh and natural she looked and that she definitely had more natural beauty than any of the other females who had been on the Voice and were always wearing heavy makeup. I love that Alicia is comfortable enough in her own skin to go natural. She is a good example for other young women to embrace their natural beauty.
I am 28 years old and the only time I wore heavy make up was during that time I joined a school-based competition in elementary and during my sister's weeding. I don't know why but I don't have this "urgent" need to put make up whenever I go out or hang-out with friends. I am not physically attractive too, it's just that I believe that make up gives off a superficial beauty. I was called ugly one time for not wearing make up but instead of losing my self-esteem it made me realize how shallow people really are. So I am with Alicia Keys. I am not anti make-up also I have no problem with girls wearing it, my only stand is that we should not based our perception of beauty on how colorful one's face is.
One thing I have respect about you, is you can move to the change transformation game. If you get knock down, no one will know it because you will get back up. I don't wear a makeup because I don't want to be depended on something and I like to be natural. I believe in my body and how I was born. Everyone is beautiful and no one should be telling you that you need to wear makeup to be beautiful and accepted. I don't understand the current society that women should wear makeup and men's doesn't have to. We are same people.
