I think they could have included Yasuke without all this controversy by doing this: 1. Make the protagonist a normal Japanese samurai. 2. Make Yasuke a side character in the story with good writing, so people can have a chance to know and like him. 3. Make him playable with a DLC, or even better, a playable character option via new game+, free of charge, included in the base game. During the marketing, don't even mention him, like any other side characters. The reason for this is people will see it as pandering. And for the love of all that is sacred, don't include hip-hop music in your feudal-era Japan game!
They did the same with Prince of Persia, they had a black prince with Killmonger haircut and hip hop on the trailer. They're beyond disrespectful. That's SBI for u.
@@carlosblumenthal4642 That's big cope. It's not just the DEI bullshit. Ubisoft games are the same re-released slop every year. They haven't innovated or advanced at all in over a decade, thats why even if you put all the political shit aside the game still looks bad and wont get anywhere near GOTY. In fact it shouldn't even be nominated and I say that knowing full well half of the games on the nomination list usually don't deserve to be there.
There's no way to "fix" this game without completely replacing Yasuke, which I think they were way too close to the finish line on this one to be able to do in one year. If their strategy is just to wait it out until the controversy dies down, I don't think THAT strategy is viable, either. It's like the Disney Snow White delays - we'll always know/remember what you did, no matter how much of a delay you implement.
they should just cancel it like square enix cancel legacy of kain, I mean there is no shame on it if the game gets a massive amount of negative and dislikes just cancel it and work on something new and unique
Imagine in an alternate universe where they replace Yasuke with a Japanese samurai. Man, that firestorm would be so large and violent that I could probably roast marshmallows through my screen lol.
I mean, the artificial blow-up of it on social media and from game urinalists would be a "firestorm" maybe. But in reality, replacing Yasuke with a real Japanese samurai would make them lose.. like maybe 5 total black people who were planning on picking it up just because of Yasuke, but they would gain tens of thousands of new buyers/players in exchange.
@@stevenedwards8353 This is assuming the rest of the game isn't a total dumpster fire. Isn't that also an assumption that people aren't playing this game, because of the race of the MC? Some people are probably not buying it, because of that, but based on all the other crap going on with this game, I think it's safe to say that it'd do just as bad. Historical inaccuracies, major bugs and glitches even in the trailers, lies upon lies from their studio, gaslighting, annoying defenders and "journalists," insulting/stolen merchandise, usage of Clan Emblems and the Great Buddha statue that they aren't supposed to use, etc. It's just another Outlaws and anyone thinking it'll be "different" is deluding themselves.
@@Sephvion Actually yes, the race IS part of it. People had been waiting for an AC Japan for a long time, they EXPECTED a Japanese man to be the main character (and there's nothing wrong with that) - even if William Adams (the most famous white "samurai") had been chosen as the mc I think people would've been peeved. Now if Yasuke had been announced as the mc of a spinoff of Shadows, I think that'd have gone over MUCH better - but as it stands, a historical character for whom all of only like 5 paragraphs or less exist wasn't appropriate for a mainline AC title.
The thing that I simply cannot stand is the amount of gaslighting from companies. I wish it were something provablee as it should have legal consequences.
As the saying goes you can ignore the problem, but you can't ignore the consequences of ignoring the problem. Drop in quality control goes hand in hand with rise in woke politics pandering. And EVERYONE is noticing it right now.
Make a good game. Not a political driven game. Not a game for reviewers. Make a good game for the players. And watch money rolling in. Or don't, and suffer the economic consequences.
It’s the 21st century, Ubisoft should do the right thing and set Yasuke free from servitude and replace him with a natural citizen of Japan. It’s time.

Why the fuck would they delay it to compete with Ghost of Yotei AND Monster Hunter Wilds? Are they literally trying to kill their game even more? the jokes make them fucking selves. holy shit. There's no chance this game can be fixed without replacing Yasuke, or making him a side character, completely.
They don't have enough time to replace him and even if they just swapped his model to be japanese and tried to edit the dialogue to make sense the woke zombies would come pitch forks in hand with a thirst for blood like we've never seen before. They are guaranteed fucked no matter what they do. They only have one choice. Take the L and start making good games again.
There is no record that Yasuke was a samurai. UBI made a game about a black savior in a stupid Japanese society, and the producers keep saying they made it as close to history as possible. What if it was a game about a white savior in Africa? In the end, UBI is an insult to Japanese history and Japanese culture. I don't want a game maker like UBI to say they made a historical game.
yeaah they managed to kill off Ghost Recon with Breakpoint, and I have had hoped The Division 2 would stay in a different path, but that too has gotten like the opposite of what It is/was meant to be, especially for the Y6 Roadmap. *if I'm Ubisoft, I cut the fat and only focus on Far Cry and Rainbow Six 👌 anyone who's not working on these 2 games gets fired immediately. I feel like even if Ubisoft would have told the exact same reasoning you said, about why they made Yasuke the protagonist, the pushback is still almost the same. All the additional shitstorm is just fuel to the already burning house. What do you think the reaction would be if Witcher 4 main character turns out to be the bestest witcher in existence that until now the book author just forgot to mention and its actually an asian woman. The magnitude of that backlash would make AC Shadows look like a peaceful release. Ubisoft casted doom on this game the second they made the decision of making Yasuke one of the the main characters and the doom countdown ended when they revealed it. They could not have come up with literally any reasoning that would convince the masses that it is not just another political pandering. People are sick and tired of it. The easiest W would have been to just make a character creator...modders would have a field day with that shit. But they could just not help themselves and pick the most controversial pick possible and roll with it. There is no way they did not know what the reaction would be. They made their bed, and now they are going to lay in it.
I doubt there is panic as such. I think investors just demand small redesigns on the game to avoid another flop. And it would not be that hard to change the tone, since the hero was designed as bi. Just drop the man+man romance options and any notions that the game is actually based on real history. They prolly have to fire the more insane woke activists tho, and good riddance.
It will be difficult to remove the main character in time. 😅
