    Great video!! Really shows an important part of t4 maintenance. Do you know if you would be able to fit a an aircon compressor unit in the pulley system shown in the video? Im wanting to add aircon and wondered if it would fit on the 2.4.
    Any help is much appreciated. Loving your videos

      I supposed, you'd have to convert / install serpentine belt components such as crank pulley, tensioner, rollers, different alternator / pulley, power steering pulley... etc. and of course all the ac components. I don't think it's worth the hassle.

    Hello Thomas! Thank you for your educational videos I have the same exact car and very recently it started making an alarming sound when I change gears, from 1st to second and then again from second to third. Gears enter smoothly and the clutch isn't indicating any problem. As soon as I put the gear (2 or 3) and gradually take my foot off the clutch, the moment i step the acceleration it makes that kicking sound. It feels like it's below the passenger's side or near the center

    • @EXOVCDS
      @EXOVCDS  6 років тому +2

      Differential support / mount? As you accelerate, the engine & transmission toque / load-up / move... if the mount (or any of the 3 mounts) has excessive free=play... that will result in clunking noises. If it's an automatic (should,'t be), harsh shifting / gear engagement is something else.

    • @alexsani3340
      @alexsani3340 6 років тому +1

      As I accelerate I have no issues. I didn;t think of the differential actually...It has a manual gearbox and yes, I feel it has free play. I will try to record with a camera for my personal diary. Thanks Thomas, i wish you were my local mechanic :P

    Hi thomas! My T4 2.4D is loosing a lot of coolant, I have to refill it now with water every 100km because it turns empty. I took it to the garage but they couldn't find a leak. No signs of white smoke to be head gasket. Do you have any idea of what could it be? Thaks in advance!

    • @EXOVCDS
      @EXOVCDS  9 років тому

      If there is no external leak, then it has to be going through the engine and out the exhaust (head gasket). Put some dye into the coolant and use a black light to look for an external leak.

    • @EXOVCDS
      @EXOVCDS  10 років тому

      The manifold would be good, but difficult to clamp on to... if you have the bottom belly pan off, you can get to the transmission and clamp it at one of the lower bolts or see if you can clamp it where the battery negative cable mounts to the chassis (to the left of the battery). If all else fails, clamp at the negative battery terminal, just be sure to turn your head away while clamping (just in case).

      You mean no fault codes in the ECM or TCM? Could be a stuck solenoid in the valve body... we don't service automatic transmission, so that's just a guess. I would monitor TCM data blocks with a scan tool to see if the TCM is comanding a shift when it doesn't shift.

    Great video thanks. Think I'm loosing coolant from the water pump. If I replace just the water pump and timing belt, is it a little easier than the job on the video? Is all the work just on the offside then with a single belt?

    • @EXOVCDS
      @EXOVCDS  9 років тому +3

      Samuel Smith Always replace the tensioner & roller when replacing the timing belt... the old parts will / might not last the life of the new belt. To replace a timing belt correctly, you need to lock the camshaft at TDC and break the camshaft sprocket free, so that it can rotate freely when adjusting the timing belt tension. The Injection pump timing thus needs to be re-checked / adjusted. You can use paint marks on the belt & all the gears (without loosening the cam sprocket), transfer the marks to the new belt and install it without locking the camshaft or removing the injection pump belt. If you are lucky, timing will be close to where it was and no running issues will be noted. If power is reduced, adjusting the injection pump timing alone might not help, because you don't know if the camshaft / crankshaft timing is to blame or the pump timing. The extra work of locking the camshaft, loosening the cam sprocket and then readjusting the pump timing, is well worth the extra effort and the peace of mind of knowing that you did everything correctly.

      I have to ask, in your honest opinion - I have never changed a cam belt on a car before. I have rebuilt plenty of motorcycle engines. Is this job a big hassle in your opinion?

    • @EXOVCDS
      @EXOVCDS  9 років тому

      Christopher Hower 3.5hrs if you are also replacing the water pump (cam or crank seal will add a bit more).
      The biggest issue is the crank pulley bolt removal & installation. If you have an air gun, that should do it for removal... 27mm hex head bolt.
      6mm Allen, 13mm, 10mm sockets... etc. basic tools.
      Removing the serpentine belt can be tricky, but can even be done with no tools... grab the belt and pull it off of the p/s pulley.
      I can send you service info so you can read through it... if can rebuild engines, you can tackle this.

Two bleed hoses connect to the reservoir... one from the radiator and the other from the cylinder head. They both connect to a T piece at the bottle. Check the inside of the distributor cap for moisture... clean out the moisture if there is any. If there is no moisture, you need to make sure that the timing belt has not jumped (due to worn or broken belt teeth) by turning the engine to #1 TDC and verifying that the cam TDC mark and the crank TDC marks line up. If they do not line up, then the timing has moved / jumped.

    If you are going to go to the trouble of making a video.....would it not be better to get someone else to hold the camera still.....it made me feel sea sick.

      +supersesqui I am recording while I work... I am more careful with my NEW videos with regards to how I move my head. I also cut out most of the movement during editing. You can always go to Scotty Kilmer, Eric The Car Guy, Mighty Car Mods, Engineering Explained, Humble Mechanic, etc etc all of whom will show you step by step repairs.

Klein gespräch hin & her hilft uns beiden nicht.
