I just got my Altima SL, bought it only reason being pro pilot assist. The day I got to know about it, I had a feeling it would be an awesome feature and sure enough it is. Now I am addicted to it. Its like a rewarding system when the pro pilot kicks in and takes up the driving on your behalf :) Also the complete stop and hold while in cruise is such an awesome feature. This is such a fun car at an affordable price. Should be the number 1 in its kind.

All of these features are extremely helpful. I just leased my 4th Altima and my 2019 Platinum Edition has all of them.
However, I have two questions that I can’t seem to find the answer to online. Hopefully someone reading this at Nissan can help.
1. When cruise control slows the vehicle because the space between the car in front is too close then will the brake lights go on to warn the driver behind me?
2. When activating the lane assist option while using cruise control, someone told me that the steering is totally controlled by applying brakes on the right or left side which will force the steering wheel to turn accordingly. There is no motor connected to the steering linkage at all according to the explanation I was given. If this is true then wouldn’t this option cause uneven brake pad wear between the right side and left side brake pads? In addition, will the brake lights be activated as the automatic braking is applied?

Yes, brake lights turn in if the car is slowing. I just Purchased the 2020 Platinum Altima. As for the second, I don't Believe it is applying brakes to steer. My wife’s 2020 Platinum Murano does do this for lane keep assist and you can feel it brake. It’s much more harsh. The manual says it’s doing this as a way to alert you if you’re weary
I drive a 2017 Honda Civic Sport Touring and the technology is about the same. The brake lights will come on when the car activates the brakes. As for Lane Keep Assist, it is electronically turning your steering wheel to keep you in the lane and steer around light curves in the road. It is the Road Departure Mitigation or Lane Departure Warning (LDW) that can use the brakes to slightly nudge the car back into the lane if you happen to drift out of your lane (it uses your steering wheel as well).
Thanks for an informative and useful video. Please could I make a suggestion that future Nissans have verbal alerts rather than a collection of chimes, bongs, beeps, double beeps etc. My Leaf is always alerting me to something - I usually have no idea what. "Please return your hands to the wheel".
I recently bought a Nissan Rogue with these features. The Steering Assist is nice unless you are on a very curvy road at 45mph or above, in which case the Steering Assist cannot sense and adjust your trajectory quickly enough. In these cases your car will cross the line to about half the width of the car, and then suddenly jerk itself back into your lane. That is really unsettling! Steering Assist is good only for long stretches of well-marked straight or nearly straight road. It's nice to have then, and in that case Steering Assist along with the automatic braking system will usually safeguard you if you are distracted for just a few seconds.
ProPilot Assist is not a standard feature on the S model. Do you know if the S is equipped with all the hardware to buy/enable ProPilot Assist later?
ProPilot will not be able to be added. Needs to be a feature of the car when bought or leased.

Level 2 autonomous is available for the middle-class.
Level 3 is available for the rich.
Level 4 is in progress.
Within a decade only the rich will drive. The rest of us will be driven around.
Ok. This is the most realistic, commonsense self-driving system I saw to date.

The system is acknowledging the limits of real world situations outside of California high-tech bubble: snow, ice, sand, sun blind, unpredictable crazy drivers around, etc. You, as the driver, must keep your hands on the wheel and be aware of the limits of the system that will shuts off if its sensors can't work properly for any uncontrolable, real world reason.
The high tech gurus snorked so much crap and gave so many speeches in stadiums on giant Imax screens presenting their plans for the future that they completely disconnected from reality. The world is not a private test road circuit in California.

Pro Pilot Assist makes is easier for a driver to get a hummer while not swerving in the lane.
Will there be software updates, perhaps feature update ?

What's the difference between ProPilot assist and lane keeping assist ?
Lane keep is very common in cars now and pulls you back in the lane while complaining, but that's all it is intended for. Propilot is more aggressive and capable. Lane keeping assist complains and helps when you are not steering, but propilot is doing the steering for you (even though you need hand near by).

I’m a single handed driver, one arm always on a side rest. For a long driving with both hands on the wheels is tiring. I’ll pass on this.
You can use Steering Assist with one hand on the wheel.
That’s a bummer: if it stays stopped for longer than 3 seconds I should press the button/pedal… but why????? Could this just resume driving unconditionally??? So inconvenient, compare to other brands.

The car will steer itself, and you CAN have your hands off the wheel as you drive, but obviously nissan isnt going to advertise or encourage people to do so, to avoid lawsuit or some sort of repercussion if something happens while in pilot assist with hands off wheel.
This car will not allow you to drive hands-free for more than a few seconds. If you try it, you will get audible alarms, and eventually it will brake, shut down, and turn on the hazard flasher and pulsing horn.

At 3:08 she says it needs two lane markers either side of the vehicle. Surely that should be two lane markers, one either side of the vehicle. Otherwise you'd need four lane markers in total.

Reduce driver fatigue while driving. Also helps to keep you in the middle of the lane while you're texting and driving.
I guess I can see how it may help. If it can't tell the difference between having one hand on the wheel and two. What you describe sounds more like lane keep assist than anything autonomous, unless it is keeping you in the center of the lane and not allowing the vehicle to bounce between the lines. I'm not sure how having to keep your eyes on the road, and your hands on the wheel will reduce driver fatigue. I don't own such a system but dream of a day where my vehicle will drive for me. :-)

It's because Nissan doesn't have the RND to afford to proof it out like a tesla. So then it's only used for added safety, and or letting you not be as worked up in traffic.

This is just adaptive cruise control and lane keep assist packaged into 1 thing. Nothing special or new here.
Same that it's been on other cars before, our 2018 Avalon has it.
Pro Pilot Assist has low speed assist.
Conventional lane keep assist for affordable car works in high speed (more than approx. 70km/h) .
There is difference.
@@hvzrdm Except that should you fall asleep with the system on, just like a Tesla it will come to a complete stop along with its hazard lights on, other systems if you sleep you crash!
I have both adaptive cruise control and lane keep assist on my cx9, bought an altima sv. The Altima has a more aggressive control on the steering wheel, it basically drives itself and the cx9 just nudges you a bit and warns you. Its pretty cool.
I like the build quality on the cx9 more though.
Honestly, it's waste of money, it's not working during raining, snow condition.

Spent $32k on a Nissan with ProPilot, it does NOT work on any lane of the Annapolis Bay Bridge which is 5 miles. Eastern or Western span, nada. Nissan Fail! Lame.
