    Were the hessians trained by their own army or by the British army ?

    • @pablojn4826
      @pablojn4826 2 роки тому +2

      The Hessen duchies were their own state, unlike 19th century national armies they didn’t fought for nation-state concepts but for monarchs and nobles. The British basically rented whole regiments of the German duchies and little states for fighting in the Americas, without the time consuming task of training and raising new units of their own. While these commanders of German armies (dukes, princes and electors and such) recieved compensation in money for the service of picked units, plus a bonus for every man killed in action or campaign.
      A practice very common in 18th century states and armies.
      So to answer your question, they were their own respective armies, uniforms, flags and training techniques and manuals.

      They aren't going away... just re-adjusting. Smaller units, more dedicated re-enactors, fewer events on public venues subject to political correctness. At least with Civil War re-enacting, you're going to see more events on private land, more hardcore events... Much smaller, yes....sadly.... But, we're now well past the 150th event series and many re-enactors came onboard for those, or stayed on just for those.

    • @jagdmeisterschuler1323
      @jagdmeisterschuler1323 Рік тому +1

      Not entirely true. The Hessians fought alongside the Prussians during the 7 years war, and essentially copied all aspects of the Military under Friederich der Grosse. In addition to that , they were still in the Holy Roman Empire, so almost all aspects of militarism spread like wildfire throughout the area. One song we know that the Hessians sang was "Jucheisa, Nach Amerika", a tune about the fact that these troops were leaving their homeland with which they were so acquainted, to a land that they had no real in-depth knowledge about
