My grandmother Riehm her father's were Hessian mercenaries for generations. She married to the Bischoff, who was grandson of Ritter all of the Prussian military from it's first breath to it's last.
They where not mercenaries but conscripts, seems you know little about your ancesters.
My Opa Almas was a Hessian soldier , immigrated to Canada after the war , was stationed at Fort George In Niagara. My other Opa ( his son) Colonel Johann Bacher Almas was a colonel in the war of 1812.
Great video. Reenactors are doing a good job.My family is from Hessia---but got here in 1742 and fought in the Penna Militia.
Very nice. I saw some Hessians at the Hook in Gloucester this weekend
My family came to America as hessian soldiers. One decided to stay. years later 5 nieces and nephews of the soldier who stayed came to america. Now 200 plus years later I'm here telling you all about it!!
My 6th great grandfather Heinrich Linkost was one of these soldiers
Trenton's my "favorite" battle of the Rev. War! Aside from the American victory, which literally saved a conflict on the precipice of collapse, I like it's compactness & decisive-swiftness---plus, I find this snowy, Hessian-occupied outpost, the town of Trenton itself, and the surprise-attack of that long-ago Yuletide---all the planning & secrecy of the Americans, etc.--to be quite-fascinating. The German-mercenaries who fought for the British are specifically-intriguing to me, as well. I'm on the verge of looking into becoming a reenactor in one of the German-regiments(not exclusively Hessian---a common mis-conception of which I've been guilty over the years!). Fairly recently-retired, and a resident of the Deep South, I'm reading & researching about them now. Part of my tentative investigations are determining whether these German troops actually fought down here in the south, a subject which seems misty & obscure. Living on such historic-ground right there in Trenton, truly would mean alot to me but, failing that, I hope to visit in-person for the first-time, in the foreseeable, near-future!
are they using 1740 potzdam muskets if so how long are these guns?
Very Interesting, My 4th great grandfather was a Hessian Soldier.
+Beau Butcher Blackwater has no relevance at all with Hessian Soldiers. The British hired thirty thousand Hessians to help fight the war on the American Colonists and roughly five thousand Hessians stayed in America. Different time period, different Countries, different everything. History is cool if you read about it.
@@btbutcher the only issue was, that in the battle of trenton, George Washington attacked when the hessians were sleeping/or partying and so the hessians were overwhelmed and had to surrender
@@nathanielkemple2356 My 4th great grandfather was captured two days before the battle of Trenton. All irrelevant replies to my initial comment to the video which was very interesting my 4th great grandfather was a Hessian soldier.
@@btbutcher one of the men in my family several generations back was also a Hessian soldier. I don't know much about him. My great aunt always said he crossed the Delaware with Washington. It would be interesting to learm more.
I'm not sure if those are Potsdam Muskets or not, but reproduction models of the 1740 Potsdam have an OAL of 57 inches.
Auaaaaaaa please its called Hanau not Hannau where did you get this map?
Hanau is written with just one "n".
i came from aoe3 units, interesting, what about jaeggers of hesse.
Hessian reenactor here, Aoe3 actually introduced me to hessians and got me wanting to be when (I was about 9) at the time. I owe reenacting to a computer game. haha
I was a German in my other life before reaching my point of reincarnation
I help a lot of little kids installing Minecraft mods
They sat and watch as I worked my magic away on the computer
Hessians didn’t come to America until 1776
Banana heads
Grenadiere Regiment von Rall.
They killed these for fun in the wars,
No they didnt they pressed into the army . Learn your History right , please
Greetings from Hessia, Germany. ^^
Proud to see you reenacting my ancestors. ^^
As an American, I am also happy to see my ancestor's action's being re-enacted, and would love to do the same later in my life.
So, we should be thanking Germans for their great fighting spirit! President TRUMP!
