Great video. Btw, a little background story - the timing for national video day may have been somewhat accidental. The raspberry pi foundation asked me to provide a config for our images some weeks back, and although I had done it, I needed to fix up the thumbnail image size we provided. I was a bit slack and only got around to it the day before the announcement which just happened to coincide with the national video games day :-) I actually wasn't aware of it at all until I read the Raspberry Pi foundation's tweet.

I updated my pie 3 and after the update lost everything.
Was considering buying a new card fully loaded with games..then I found your video.
And luckily I still had all my roms saved.
Thank you for your easy..straight to the point tutorial.

as a married man and 3 kids, i was really in fear of not knowing what the hell to do, thankfully i gave in and purchased my first pi3 premade (quite costly) but then i started tinkering away knowing how to program it, building it, overclocking it safely etc..and now that i gained more knowledge as time went on, i am now ready for pi4. this method saves a ton of time for me and this time its all me, which means its no where near costly. happy gaming yall!

I have a question. I have a retropie handheld. The SD card that came with it is not in English, so I bought a SD card with everything in English. When I put the new card in It boots up just like original and the games play fine except the dpad and buttons seem disabled. I have to plug in my USB controller to play, and that defeats the handheld point. When I put the old SD card back in it plays fine using the portable dpad and buttons. So, how to map so when the new SD card is in I can play using the buttons and dpad on the portable?

I recently last weekend in fact bought the new RPI-400 and its very useful knowing i can just create a usb stick in addition to the SD card and just drag and drop roms that way. Thankyou very much for the knowledge, im sure back in the past i had to do it over FTP

I thought it might be the rom so i went to a different sight and it like used the pi imager to write the rom onto the usb.. still wouldnt work... I noticed the files were gone so i cleared it and tried to reformat it, but now when i plug it into the pi it wont add the three folders/files. What do i do? im struggling this is my first Rasberry PI... (4B)

Ordered a cabinet from recroommasters last week. I just went to ebay and bought a card already flashed and setup for plug and play lol. I figure it's my backup, the other card i have... that's where the learning begins lol. Iv'e messed with MAME in the past and i know how finicky emulators can be. Misplace one file and it's like Christmas lights. It all goes down.
I predict hundreds of hours of messing with images to find what i like.

So, I'm very new to this whole Raspberry Pi & RetroPie thing. I am not very knowledgeable about it at all. Recently, I purchased the LABISTS Raspberry Pi 4 4GB Complete Starter PRO Kit with 32GB Micro SD Card (4GB RAM). I was finally able to get it set up and I was able to play a few games on it last night (5/26/21). The main reason why I decided to go with a Raspberry Pi was because I'm a child of the 80s and 90s. I wanted to have a system that let me play retro video games such as arcade games and console games (Genesis & SNES) from that time period. The problem I've run into now is that some of the roms work fine and others don't. I can't figure out why this is happening. I have heard that arcade roms use MAME, etc . . . Some of the arcade and 16-bit console roms are working, but other ones are not. Does anyone know why this is happening and how I can fix this latest issue that I'm facing? Thanks.
