This book is Awesome! I love the Lean-To-Shed the most (page 98). The plan ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxe9yi0sulKgsp0VJJCIrLWWkvVqcU7LFR is to attach it to the back of my brick house. I also like how they walk you through the many different steps of construction, which is important for the less experienced like me.
It’s going to be pretty difficult to build a high quality shed for under $500.
I announced to my husband I’m getting some chickens today, his response was, I guess I have to build you a coop then. I said I wanted a 4x4 coop, I opened UA-cam and low and behold your video was suggested. Such a great design and video. 🙏 thank you.
If you have a chance, watch my build long video for the coop w a pallet wood exterior. There’s a new and improved method for doing the notch cuts on the 4x4 posts.
I like everything about this coop except the hinged roof on the nesting boxes. I made my nesting box roof a solid piece, mostly because after doing commercial roof repair I see a bunch of problems possible with it, and then made the back of it (on the outside) fold out downward to access the nests for egg collecting and cleanout. The coop isn't finished yet, since it hasn't stopped raining here for the last month, but the next time I have two+ days of sun, it'll *finally* be done.
Nice work on the video!👍
Thank you for sharing all your experiences in making this coup. The fact that you shared the plans as well is awesome, I will be sending you a PayPal gift, many thanks.
Hey, I know this is an old video but thanks for making it! There are a few tricks in here you did that I learned and I appreciate you taking the time to make this video.
I made a newer video w a few updated techniques, especially the post notching. If you look through the videos you’ll find a coop made w a pallet wood exterior. Check out that build if you have some time 👍
Same! Thanks
Thank you so much for your time and trouble in making and posting this video. It is so very well done and breaking the whole thing down into steps makes it feel very doable.
Excellent design. Thanks for all the work to put this together. Liked the look so much that I down loaded your plans and built one like yours. My cost were around $650 for the coop. $820 for fenced in chicken run, chicken food, accessories and chickens. Lots of fun so far. Thanks
Agree with some of the other comments here...best one I've seen, wonderfully detailed video that is easy to follow and understand - with some pretty awesome tips thrown in to make the build easier and more functional. I am looking forward to giving this a try... Thank you so much! Wow!
Since you stayed 'til the end, so did I! ...And I'm glad I did. Excellent, detailed video that contains LOTS of tips and shortcuts for the beginning woodworker/DIYer.
Thanks!
Thank you for the incredible video!! I’m not a carpenter by any means and have look for great video to build a coop.
Yours is the ONLY one that I’ve found that actually details each step, quickly and efficiently.
Thank you!! ♥️✌️
I just saw your other coop videos
Thanks for sharing!
Hey! Thank you for the kind words. If you get a chance, be sure to watch the pallet wood coop video. The post notching portion of that video is a much better technique than is shown in this video. Lmk if you have any questions.
Love these two vids as they give so much detail! I used his same basics and just built my own after watching his vids! So cool!
very educational, thank you for such a detailed video that is narrated better than most videos I've seen.
I'm super excited about this, I have already bought a prefabricated one but this looks nicer and well worth it, thank you!
Very nicely done , You use tools that I have and it's obvious you really thought this through. Thank's for sharing!
You're a really wonderful person to share like this. Which I could have made one myself. Well done, thanks for sharing. Blessings!
been watching a bunch of these same type builds and id say this is my favorite
There are several factors in creating an amazing design. One resource I found which succeeds in merging these is the Coop Magic Tactic (check it out on google) without a doubt the most helpful info i've heard of. look at this extraordinary site.
Hey there great job. How many chichicken is this design giod for and how much did it cost in materials?
I've only watched part of the video so far, but I wanted to express my appreciation for the time and effort you expended to provide the excellent video explanation and the diagrams and the pictures. Great job, both on the coop build and in the way you made it relatively straightforward for those of us with only rudimentary carpentry/construction skills. Thank you.
Peter K. You are most welcome. Thank you for going out of your way to thank me!
I like all of your hard work and attention to detail. Good job.
Thank you Sir for posting this. I will be using your plan out of many I have seen. Excellent job with the video, best explained so far and a very solid construction job.
+Leo Ortega Thanks! Let me know how it goes, and if you have any questions along the way...send them my way!
I have spent months studying constructing coops and discovered a great resource at Coop Magic Tactic (google it if you are interested)
Hey everyone, the greatest success that I have ever had was by using the coop magic tactic (i found it on google) definately the most useful course that I've followed.
I have spent months researching into building coops and discovered a great resource at coop magic tactic (check it out on google)
I just finished a modified version of this coop (To for the area I have available) and it's rock solid. Thanks very much for the ideas. Awesome stuff!
+Kristopher Luke Hey Kristopher, I'd love to add some pictures of your coop on my flickr page if you are willing to send some my way. My email address is listed on the plans. Congrats!
Excellent build ... very thorough and informative. Nicely done!
Thank you! I’ve got a new build video coming out tomorrow AM 👍
Thank You!!! I really appreciate this video. Now I can show it to my son and a family friend, so it will be easier to build my coop.
Nice build! I appreciate you taking the time. Lots of good ideas here for the coop I am about to put together.
I like the ease of cleaning out the nesting box idea. That is great!
Thanks!
Thank you for your positive feedback. There have been a lot more angry youtubers recently.
An outstanding video I have looked at a lot I do mean a lot so I can build a coop, this is by far the best, GREAT JOB !!!!!!!!!!!!!
I've been watching dozens of coop builds to get a handle on things before I start my own as a very new builder, and this is without a doubt the most helpful and well explained vid I've found. Thank you so much!
Thank you!! I finished a new build which you may find helpful as well. The post notching technique is better in the new video. Chicken Coop: Step-by-Step Build 2.0 (Long Version with Commentary) ua-cam.com/video/56FA-STOZKw/v-deo.html
@@E_Fleming oh that's great! I'll definitely be watching!
Thank you for sharing. this is a professional job. Great video.
Great video and thanks for taking the time to detail the build process. I learnt a lot!
I am almost done with this build!! walls and roof go up this week! Thank you for your detailed explanation! I will definitely be donating
Kayle Rivers how much did everything cost?
Cost ?
Flemwad18 you did an awesome job on the coop and the video. Thank you very much for sharing.
Love this design..., best build I have seen for awhile without all of the crap. Love the fact that you put in all of the mistakes aswell. Huge thumbs up.
Thanks!! In my newest build, I have removable floor panels in the nesting boxes. Makes for easy cleaning- you just have to put a container under there and sweep the bedding out.
I’ve been watching dozens of coop building videos. This was the best I’ve found! Thanks so much for such clear explanations and video footage of each step. This was extremely helpful. I really appreciate all the tips you shared too. I’ve been trying to learn how to notch out the 4X4s. Your explanation was the best. Thanks again!
Thanks! I actually have a new way of notching 4x4 which you will see near the beginning of this video. It makes a much cleaner cut.
Chicken Coop: Step-by-Step Build 2.0 (Long Version with Commentary)
ua-cam.com/video/56FA-STOZKw/v-deo.html
You did a great job on the coop and on explaining each step.
Just finished a slightly modified version of your coop. I will email you some pictures for your flickr page. I've done a ton of surfing about chicken coops and I have to say your video was the best and most helpful. We get our baby chicks this weekend! My 7 and 8 year old girls are super excited.
This was amazing anyone can overhaul this coop and make there own masterpiece your video and stuff was a blessing. I am raising chickens and ducks and this video was super helpful. God bless happy new year
Great video. Lots of detail. Thank you!
Thanks for sharing your crafty ness ❤love the notches ❣️❣️🔥❣️❣️
One suggestion - drop down door to fetch eggs on the back in stead of pull up door on top. Coax you won’t have syco birds they will be calm and no leaks from rain. 😮 but I Absolutely love your design thank you for sharing your build your amazing❤
Best set of plans + tutorials I've seen online for chicken coops. Heck, for any project. Above and beyond!!! Big props for putting all these resources together! Can't wait to start my coop this weekend :-)
Jeff Poulton Thanks! Let me know if you have any questions along the way.
Jeff Poulton Ah, also...please let me know how the supply list works out. Particularly the "lumber" section.
Great video. Thanks for teaching us how to build this chicken coop!
Really enjoyed you! Even your Squinty sun face! Thanks for the video!
It's not like I would ever build the coop you built, but it was a very nice coupe and I would use this video more as a guideline to build my own coup. I thought the coop was very well thought out and very well built. Thank you so much for the content.
I love it. I think every back yard should have one. Perfect for a few hens.
That’s the best tutorial video i ever seen, no a lots of talking bla bla bla , very good👍
Thank you for this video and plans. I recently just finished my eagle project which i did a chicken coop. Without these plans i don't know where i would be right now. Thank you
Great job. You are a real Craftsman!
Nice and very helpful. You're a good teacher. 👍
Thank you, and that’s good to hear because I am a teacher for my full time job 🙂
This is a great video and very well detailed and explained. I had watched your other video of your coop and loved it so I decided to watch this one too. Tried looking at the plans and will go back and look at all the photos but it's late and being more visual, I wanted to watch the video first. Although I must admit, for someone who's never built anything before it is a tad overwhelming. This doesn't have to do with you, it's very well explained, it's just here I had thought it was "only" screwing pieces of wood together and "not that hard" and it appears there is a lot more to it than previously thought.. LOL I'm sure it's not as difficult as it seems though and if I was actually out there trying it I may pick it up faster.
Thank you. You are awesome, I appreciate all your info.
Very impressive construction. It should last 100 years ! The Mother Of All Chicken Houses.
I will use these plans, thank you so much from Sweden
You are welcome! Best of luck and let me know if you have any questions.
This was super informative and detailed! Thank you so much for taking the time!
I wish I saw this a month ago! I would have rethought a few parts of my build! Nice!
Your video has given me hope. I think I can build this. I have some of the tools so that will help excellent tutorial. Bless u.
THANK YOU! You have such a perfect, casual voice for this. I learned so much. Key points for me were to load the weight on notches instead of screws. I will do this with 2 treated 2x6's sandwiched together using the inner boards top edge as the support. I don't like 4x4's with their cracks. You also mentioned the importance of sizing the roof sheeting to match the frame perfectly, definitely noting that. I really love the nice pics of your roof design. I do wonder why you didn't put the last two center 48's attached to the load bearing boards though. Maybe it has to do with the roof sheeting? My idea is for deep liter, and to have all the maintenance at one end so I have less snow to shovel. Have a wall sized door which opens to have two interior stacked nest boxes in mid, with water on one side and feed on the other. Above this two foot section will be a little storage. Because the roof will be slanted to the side like yours, vent space will not be affected in the main hen house interior.
Can I just say chickens sweat and ventilation is so important. A flow of air from just under the roof from both sides is useful.
Thank you so much for showing this!🐥🐥
Bless you your a good man. Many thanks for sharing.
Your voice is so relaxing
I think you are doing a great job, thank you for this video. God Bless
Thank you so much for the free plans and video to go with it! Y'all give this man a donation if you are as grateful as I am. :-D
Great presentation!!
Great video! I will use many ideas from your build. Thanks!!!
I did a chicken coop 2.0 video- a new build w a couple new features / construction techniques. That coop has removable nesting box dividers and a trap door in the bottom for real easy cleaning. Check out the long version w commentary or the short version. If nothing else, check out my new way of notching the posts. It’s the first segment in those videos.
I’ve been planing and stressing out over my coop build since I got my chicks two months ago. They’re sick of sleeping in a crate in my basement so thanks for making this seem less overwhelming. I’m using pallets so your other video was also very helpful. I’ve watched about 20-30 videos and this one is the best. Would you consider posting a update of the coop with chickens living in it with any comments about how it’s doing now? Thanks again.
Used your plans to build my coop (made some mods though). Great video. Thank you!
Nice job, thank you for the great video.
amazing work ,Good job.
Very extensive tutorial. Very similar to what I plan to do.
Best video.Thank you so much.
Thank you so much, you did a gr8 job :)
Thank You!! I build a 6x5x6 H and just prime the plywood but I really do think I will go back now and lay the linoleum
very good. some excellent tips.
Hey. I know this is an old video, but thank you so much for sharing! I just got some baby chicks & looking to buy a coop but they're so expensive (not too sturdy either). Your instructions are so simple that I can build one myself that's more sturdy than the ones I saw in the store. Thank you!
Awesome! I’m glad it was helpful. You might want to watch my v3.0 coop build for a better technique for notching the 4x4 posts.
Thank you very much ! Very helpful !!
Great video!
I've been watching as many videos as I could find, building the coop and your's is #1. I was planning on purchasing a kit from Carolina Coops but the $2800 price tag is a bit steep, even though they use alot of Douglas Fir and the include a spacious attached run. I think using your awesome walk through, that I may build my own the coming Spring. Thanks!
Excellent vid for us DIY types who ain’t carpenters!
Thank you! That was my primary goal!
Great Job Mr Fleming
Thank u so much!!! I am so grateful to u.
Great job!!
Very nice little chicken cook I'm going to do one just like this
great video. thank you for sharing
I followed his plan and it was perfect for my girls! highly recommended
Nice! Thanks for the positive feedback!
You're welcome. Your video was well done and the design was easy to follow. I made one mistake-location not level/perfect and my siding panels didn't quite match on one corner especially. MY FAULT, shoulda made sure it was really really level when I added platform
Thanks! Oh well...you learned for next time. I am sure the chickens don't care! :-)
bob cole how much was the materials altogether? 🙂
@@cactusbeecrafts6389 been a while, so can't be sure but would guess less than $200 easily including metal roof
In case you missed it in the description... the plans for this coop are found at www.flickr.com/photos/coopinstructions/sets/ To see all the pictures, click on "photostream."
flemwad18 Good information.....Thankyou
Thank you very much for posting this. Very well done. I down loaded your plans and built an identical coop. It was a lot of fun to build. Parts list was excellent. Cost as of March/2017 was around $650. Almost all items purchased at Lowes.
hey ,if anyone else is searching for making a chicken run try Niposcu Chicken Coop Adviser (should be on google have a look ) ? Ive heard some incredible things about it and my mate got excellent success with it.
Cheers for this, been searching for "buy large chicken coop" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Ever heard of - Machaaldity Coop Blaster - ( search on google ) ? Ive heard some decent things about it and my cousin got cool success with it.
This is excellent.. Thank you
Very nice!
thank you for teaching off a building Chicken coop I already started another different.
On my to do list for memorial day weekend. Fingers crossed!
Good luck, and brace yourself for the crazy cost of wood. I believe it will be at least double what it costs on the supply list.
Great job !
Good job . I do have some thing I'll like to add . When making the walls you should make a box and put your studs in it, screw the suds from top and bottom . Then put the walls in and you can screw then in on the sides and floor .
Love this video have not been abel to find a coop like this one, its almost exactly like the one I will be building. However it will have a side slide coop door instead of the Guillotine chicken door beautiful coop.
We are making this right now! Thank you so much!
Nice build thanks for sharing God bless.
Excellent, comprehensives.
Muy bien maestro Fleming!
Nice work.
AWESOME VIDEO!! THANKS!!!
I have another coop construction video w a pallet wood exterior. Watch that if you are building your own...the post notching technique in that is much faster and cleaner.
thank you my friend every spring I do a major project for my yard and this is the one for this spring thank you for sharing
I just saw your generous donation. Thank you so much! Have a great Easter and please let me know if you have any questions while you build
Ah...also please let me know if you find any mistakes in plans so I can make changes for others.
