Oh what a nice video to wake up to on a Sunday morning! Thank you so much! I think some of the FF soles have a harder rubber (higher durometer?) I think the sole on those is of that style, so especially in the cold, they are a little "hard" and that makes them slippery. The tread on the trail running versions (I think) is softer, so it's got more grip, plug it's got a lug or angled tooth, which also comes into play, vs. the flat tread on those V-runs. Sort of like like car and motorcycle tires.....softer provides more grip, but wears out faster, harder provides less grip, but lasts longer for long life and road touring type applications.

      @skinnylegsbarefootshoes  Рік тому +1

Yes I think you have it spot on there. The V-Run do seem to have a fair bit of padding on the bottom, for this style of shoes, and it’s more substantial than the Vapor Gloves for example. Which are softer and grippier but are wearing down quick. Both the V-Run and Vapor Gloves have soles made by Vibram. Vibram must mix up the compound to suit the application - I think that’s pretty cool 😎

Fantastic video as ever! I tend to agree with ToddM: I find the V-runs soles harder and actually rather slippery in the wet. Really not forgiving if you do not pay attention and run on a manhole cover for instance (personal experience). By contrast, I think the the V-treks are much better for wet / muddy environments

Thanks for your comment really appreciated 😁 got another video on the V-Runs in the pipeline from a half marathon I ran in them yesterday. Also Todd is a great user of the Vibrams, and has some ace videos on his channel too 👍 Thanks Marc right V-Trek on Vibram.co.Uk 😁

@@marcvanderlinden7618 That was exactly my experience. My first pair of FF's (in 2012) were the Bikilas, which have the same flat "road tread" sole. They were fine on a warm day, on pavement, and I ran them on the local, dry, hard packed, rock strewn, mountain trails. But on a colder day, and especially when wet, they could be very slippery. I wore them hiking, and they were fantastic, but were very slippery on Granite surfaces because they were simply too hard to grip. And once wet on the trail, they were very slippery on any sort of rocky section or granite section of the trails. Wore them backpacking across the Grand Canyon, and it was the same experience. I switched to the Spyridons with the waffle tread, and so did my daughter. Ultimately, she found the Trek Ascents, and loves them. I'm still in the Spyridons, but have also learned to love the V-Trail 2.0's. The V-Trails were way too tight in the toe sockets, and I almost abandoned them. But I hammered out some long runs in them, and sure enough, they stretched out, and feel perfect now. This first pair of them have been across the Grand Canyon quite a few times now.

Hi Ash 👋 It always brightens my day when I see you've dropped a new vid 😁 Great to see that you're still enjoying the V-Runs - I use the KSO Evo's for road but I think you've convinced me to change to the V-Runs for my next pair as I think it will help me over the longer distances. The V-Trail 2.0's are putting in great service on the rough stuff in the Peak District hills. I've heard a few grumbles from various folk about the 2.0's compared to the originals. I've had both and prefer the 2.0's although I will admit they took a little longer to break in. Great to see you out in Abbey Park! Keep it lit sir! 🔥

Hey TJ thanks very much 🙏 Did you get to give Bradgate Park a reccie that time? I’m really loving my time in the V-Runs! Ran a half marathon in them yesterday and they felt really good - stable, comfortable and that little bit of padding on the outsole I’m sure helped over the distance of 13 miles. I actually went quicker than I thought I would too, which is nice on a chip timed event 👍
The KSO EVO are proper hardcore barefoot! My most minimal shoes (closest to barefoot) for running are the Merrell Vapor Gloves but the KSO look way more minimalist, especially on the soles than even them. I did try a pair of the V-Trail with the full intention of buying them but they just didn’t feel right. In the V-Run my size 43 are pretty much perfect, the 43 in the V-Trail my toes were up against the end. And in the 44 the length was better but there was too much material in the upper which meant I couldn’t get a lock down in them 😬🤷‍♂️ oh well I’m still looking for shoes for the 35 miler in May. Might end up doing it in the Vapor Gloves if I don’t find anything else to use.
Still need to try the V-Alpha if they fit like the V-Run I’ll be into a winner but if they fit like the V-Trail I don’t think they will be any good for me. The search continues 🤣👍

Yes, I usually wear socks with these. The toe socks are made by Vibram and are exactly the same green/yellow as the laces and highlights on the shoes 😎 so they probably look like they are part of the shoe. I need to stop being so coordinated 🤣
This park is lovely, and it’s a 10 minute walk from the town centre and about 10 minutes run from my house along the canal, which is pretty nice and handy - don’t know why I don’t go there more often than I do tbh 🤷‍♂️

I have a pair of these same V-runs. I enjoy them, but I can't make my mind up as to my preference, whether it's the V-runs or my Skinners. I find the Skinners nicer when the weather is colder, with socks underneath they keep my feet at a good level of warmth, though I am very prone to cold feet and hands. Not officially been diagnosed with Raynors, but my dad was officially diagnosed so not surprised if I do have it. I enjoy running in the Skinners and did so yesterday in the Wokingham half and my feet felt fine throughout. Enjoy your videos about barefoot running.

Thank very much Neil for your thoughts and experience in the Vibram and the Skinners. Yes I saw on Strava you ran the Wokingham Half marathon in the Skinners. That’s brilliant that they worked out for you, and that they are good for you in cold weather. Must be a bit tricky if your hands and feet suffer in the colder weather. I feel the cold a lot too - just from being a bit on the skinny side, rather than anything medical I reckon, so really hate being cold. I wear socks in my V-Runs from Vibram or Injinji in all but the blazing sunshine and heat, I find the size I have fits perfectly with the toe socks 👍
Well done on the half marathon in the skinners 👌 and that they were comfortable too - massive bonus, did you see Ben Parkes, he’s a UA-cam runner ( and nearly as famous as me 🤣🤣🤣) he did the Wokingham yesterday too 😁

Definitely looking forward to London in April. A little apprehensive as it’s my first marathon. Training seems to be going well. I’ve started some strength work, which is helping with the running.
Not sure which shoes I’ll wear for London. Because of the colder weather I’ve been wearing my Skinners a lot, so makes sense to wear them, as changing shoes can cause injury. Though if the weather warms up with enough time to train in them, to get used to them again, my Xero Genesis sandals would be my first choice.

New subscriber. Love your content. I want to get in to barefoot running again. I know I have to take it slow. I tried it briefly many many years ago and loved it..I already wear barefoot shoes, Vivos, but there's a big difference between walking in them and running. I had a pair of Vibram Komodos that I bought 2nd hand (charity shop for £3!!!) several years back, and I did run in them, but way too soon. My feet, calves, etc. were not happy. Then I had a series of injuries and when I went back to running, I used conventional running shoes, Brooks Adrenalines. However, I prefer the barefoot feel. I have better balance in them and my knees and hips don't protest, which they do with heel striking. The Komodos were an EU43, UK9, but they were just a bit too small, especially with socks. I've been toying with buying these V-runs for a while, but not sure on the sizing. When I measure my feet, the guide says I'm a 43, but I know that's too small. How would you say these run size-wise? I don't want them sloppy, but a snugger fit hurts around my toes, especially the big toes. The fit everywhere is feels great as I have narrow ankles. I also thought about the V Trek insulated. What would you recommend? Cheers, Julian

Hi Julian, I’m Ash (Ashley) thanks very much for subscribing - I think you are my 500th which is lovely 😀
My first pair real running shoes were Brooks Glycerin I liked them a lot, but I pushed too hard with bad form in them and gave myself terrible plantar fasciitis pushing for a 10k pb 🤣
I do love running in these Vibram V-Run they feel so right to me. Having skinny feet the way the toes are splayed is a feeling I appreciate. I measured on the Vibram size guide and it said EU43 Uk 9 which is what I went with and luckily they fit perfectly 👌 I tried on a pair of V-Trail at the National Running Show in 43 and they felt really small and short in length, but the 44 felt massive and I couldn’t do them up correct due to all the excess fabric ☹️
If it helps in anyway (as we are similar in size) my feet are approximately 27.3cm long, and not wide at all, the 43 is spot on in the V-Run.
I know it is not always an option, but it might be worth getting a 43 and 44 to try in at home and see which feels best - I have to do this with ‘Freet’ shoes as their sizing is a bit all over the place. Keep the one that fits and send the other back.
I thought my latest shoes were a bargain second hand at £15 for an old pair of Adidas, but £3! That is king of bargains I reckon 😁👍

@@skinnylegsbarefootshoes Hi Ash, That does help knowing your size feet. Mine measure 27.54 cm with Strut-fit. I downloaded their template for sizing with my Vivos. I was a UK10 in those, but have found recently, that I've lost the wiggle room I had in the toe box, so I'm now selling all my UK10's vivos and buying 11's. I've just bought an almost new pair of White Primus Lite Knits which are an 11 and they are a great fit, with wiggle room and the heel doesn't rub, with or without wearing socks. They were only £30 and as clean as a whistle, so I thought I'd give a bigger size a go without having to fork out £140. My feet have become more splayed from the midfoot to the top of my toes and with skinny ankles I look like I have duck feet, lol! Though, to be honest, I'm not fussed about the aesthetics, it's more about comfort. I think I'll give the size 43's a go. Perhaps they have a bit more stretch to them than the Komodos do. They are still going, but there's separation between the rubber soles and uppers in a few places, and around a couple of the toes. Still wearable and even though they let the water in, they dry super-fast. The other reason I like the barefoot feel is because I have poor sight and poor depth perception and I only see the world in 2D. So everything looks flat to me. Not surprisingly I trip and fall a lot. With barefoot shoes I'm more aware of where I am in relation to the ground and I'm not then totally reliant on what I'm seeing as that can be very skewed. And I LOVE feeling all the lumps and bumps underfoot and the way my feet accommodate them. Who would you recommend buying them from? There's a Shop on Ebay, but the feedback rating isn't as good as I would like. A lot of the negatives revolve around the wrong items/sizes being sent and poor communication/customer service. It's always nice to have another's experience to help make purchasing choices :)

Getting a pair of Vivos for around £30 is really good! They are an expensive brand to buy from, they sometimes have good deals on, but they seem few and far between and sometimes the sizes are limited, so £30 is happy days!😁
I got my Vibrams from Barefoot Junkie, I think if you put in Vibram.co.Uk or Barefoot Junkie it will get you to their website. I spoke at length with one of the owners at the National Running Show and it was an interesting conversation. He told me about a new model coming out and how Vibram are collaborating with a guy from Sheffield to make a pair of minimal running sandals here in the UK. They also have an easy return policy, when I got mine I ordered the 43 and 44. I didn’t even take the 44 out the box as the 43 were a perfect fit for me. I sent the 44 back for a refund.

If Vivo did half sizes I may have gone for 42.5, BUT I have done a 13 mile trail run and 10 mile road run in the Vivo Primus Trail with no issues - so the sizing is pretty good.

The ground feel is good, but these have more padded outer soles than the kso evo for sure. Because of the padding they loose a bit of ground feel - they don’t have as much as the Merrell Vapor Gloves for example, but it makes them easier for long runs etc. I’m not sure they would have the right kind of grip for rocks, especially if they get very wet.
