No one better than Carol Vaness. Simply the best best Elettra ever. Sterling high notes, clean clear voice. Strong and full of emotion without loss of vocal integrity. Brilliant!
For everyone who thinks that Mozart has to be sung by light, white, small voices, without chiaroscuro, without squillo, without vibrato, WITHOUT SALT AND WITHOUT SUBSTANCE, here is a lesson on how to sing Mozart. 😘
Years ago, I rented the video of this IDOMENEO, and fell in love with this opera. The entire cast is tremendous, but Carol Vaness' Elettra was the performance that "sealed the deal" for me. Seeing this again, and knowing just a bit more about what it takes to convey an operatic character, only increases my love and respect for her.
Absolutely brilliant. And that look in the very end gave me goosebumps. How she concentrates the emotions while singing with the most beautiful sound...
This was a master class in Mozartian singing. The entire piece is a window into madness. The first part of this piece, the recitative is my favorite, the color of her voice and the acting.
Wow!!!! Terrific voice, pacing, technique and breath control. The whole package and all packed in a beautiful women with fantastic acting abilities. Absolutely great performance. ❤❤
Most sopranos make a mess out of this scene. The aria is a killer, but here we have the ideal interpreter. No one sings it better than Vannes. Bravissima.
Just watched the Behrens performance of this aria. I love her passion and she's a great singing actress - but Carol Vaness gives you the notes as well as the passion. I know which version I prefer!
This is the Glyndebourne production from the early 80's conducted by Bernard Haitink and directed by Trevor Nunn (his first opera production). Idomeneo: Philip Langridge, Idamante: Jerry Hadley, Ilia: Yvonne Kenny.

Wow! So beautiful! And, her eyes are so expressive! It must have been so incredible for the audience! Brava!
This is breathtaking. So much free, ringing sound.

Brilliant. Beautiful voice. Sung so very well.
Carol Vaness- always the beautiful full tone quality, correct style and expression of text.
Very expressive face and features. Made for Il Teatro
Carol Vaness was always magnificent! I wish she had done Medea. She would have been a great Medea!
Absolutely stunning! ♥️
Magnificent!

Sure, those high notes are brilliant. But those low notes are phenomenal.
Marvellous.
Perfect!!!!!!!
5:27 is the beginning of my favorite part
savanna She goes totally PSYCO. Arnold Bourbon Amaral
The staccato section. Really hard. Listen the Sutherland version. She does alto in High C at the final.
Моё любимое исполнение
Perfetta vocalmente e interpretativamente
Great!
Another underrated / neglected spinto, who could do miracles with her voice ! Brava Carol !
She was a huge star for many years, especially in Mozartian roles. She was neither underrated nor neglected.
Was that Jerry Hadley with a blonde wig in the beginning?? Arnold Bourbon Amaral
Yes
Dove c’era?
The '90s are back! LOL
could we know the rest of the cast?
