How to DIY a $20 planer to a more precise tool

I buy a real low cost wood planer $20 I have it for a few years never use it .Finally after waiting the opportunity and money to get a small wood shop I build mi self one out of pallets and course I need it a jointer so I made one whit my cheap planer .However the cheap planer need it help when you buy cheap you got low chances of a getting good tools .
