Props to Marco Polo for sharing this knowledge. Human hearing is logarithmic so lower notes are much closer together in frequency. That’s why it’s easier to hear the pitch difference when you go higher.
I've owned 3 MPC's, and they all work the same way with the 16 levels. My way I've always tuned bass to a sample, is get your root note of the sample on 1 pad, apply your bass note to another pad. now LPF your sample pad until it brings out a nice bass tone. You then play these 2 pads at the same time, no doubt you will hear a wobble, meaning it's out of tune. Tune your bass note until you hear it's in tune and the frequency wobble stops. Voila, both in tune. NOW 16 level that shit and build a bassline.
16 lvs is on MPC, turns pad triggered to be played at 16 dif velocity wit pad 1 low pad 16 highest. Lpf, is a low pass filter. Hope it helps. Im new to production 2. Just got a MPC studio in Aug. 3 years in training 2 be a emcee. I started 2 mix mine n' my nef's tracks. We are starting 2 need beats so I said I got us. Its awsome how it all is interconnected. Rap tought me mix, mix tought me production concepts. Shout out 2 MARCO POLO One of the greats right here!... Gunna be checkin any tips u got... I don't have a music theory backround either. Learning on da fly!
@@LG-ro5le LPF is a lowpass filter. I haven't used an mpc in a good 8 years...but basically you're going to crank down on the filter so that you really only hear the low end of your sample. Then try and mimic that with a bass note till they sound like they're in tune together. Some samples you can actually use the low end as a bass line. That was big in the early 90s.
Great episode! To be honest, not that relevant for me (because I'm a Bassist), but I can't wait for the HiHat episode. So many different ways, but I still can't find the right way for me. Can't wait to see how you programm your hats. stay healthy!
A Breukelen Sorty , was nearly the album of the year for real...Dope , in the production , the lyrics as much as I love Girselda and all that guy bringin that renaissance, Masta Ace , still come with that flow , but still too with those INTELLIGIBLE and it's not just shooting , gang gun..This is dude is sych a niceMC for three decade now...All those concept albums are amazing. Thank you for all those production Marco.
Masta always on point and near the audience ... whereas Marco is always on point in the background and got his back. Just a great team - in this sometimes fast times without real partnership. Appreciate have seen them perform 2getha. Propz acrosd from the atlantic ocean. PS: got that PT 1-3. Maybe gotta checkout the others ✌🏼
Marco, just let me tell you three of the best italian words can be said to someone: IO TI AMO. Thanks for sharing your speechless wisdom with us and a real, big, lovely, fat hug from Italy! ❤️
Thank you Marco! Watching your tutorials since day 1 making beats, now i been making music for 5 years, you one of my greatest inspirations, go cop all pad thai kits my producer friends!
MP on the MP !!! pad thai vol 1 is one of my first purchases! still haven't figured out this producing thing yet and pretty much gave up on doing it as a living but it's still fun.
Marco, good to see you! It was a great idea to make this channel. Great tips and tricks, I also make bass lines as you said. Some people could think it's a shame because we are not educated musicians, but I think that the final result is the most important, not the whole process. Big up!
For years I struggled tuning bass notes. This is the way I always had the most success. Lately I've been throwing my sample in melodyne and getting the exact key. Sometimes the key is off by a come CTs....so I'll use a bitcrusher to adjust...but for the most part you can figure the exact key out then just go in on the keyboard or mpc. For the hardware guys you might need to keep doing this method though lol.
oh man this is fire! Thanks for the tip bro! Always enjoyed your videos. Been a minute since I seen one. That scarbee bass in one of my favs too, I did the same and sampled it for my MPC.
i was watching the other videos a few weeks ago, hyped to see you back! using the filter on the sample to find the root is gonna be really helpful, and it's cool to see a rick even sounds good as a plugin. posted up for the next one, shout out from calgary!
This is great, I got to a decent level in my beat making but I sort of reached a bit of a plateau but now I realise it’s my (lack of) technique. This is really helping to reinvigorate me, and I’m using it to improve my baseline on my new beat and it is sublime! Thank you. Subbed and also purchased Pad Thai 1-4. Peace and love.
Man tuning a Bass Note to a sample gave me a headache back in the days. Its funny cause i developed the Same techniques exept that i tuned the Note on pad 4 or 8. Dope concept Marco. Im looking forward to further Episodes. Keep it up
Damn! This series is so incredibly good! So many tricks I would loved to know earlier. Quick tip for Bass tuning: I use NI Machine, but it also works on other machines and keyboards. Go a few octaves higher with the tone. Like he died in the video, but actually way higher. Of course you can't have a filter on the bass sample for that. With that you really getting quick to the root notes....
Marco! NI basses are my secret weapon! shhhhhh lol, hey another tip on the filtering a sample to find the bass roots, tune the sample down one octave or 12 half steps you'll hear the low tones even better

Cool trick indeed. Using the software one could use a tuner VST but this is great and I will use it.
Man this makes so much sense just might be genius...gotta try asap
Ok... This is my new favourite serie on YT right now.
